How the heck to I stop Lion from launching old docs when I open a new doc in MS Word, Excel, Preview, etc? I HATE this feature. Twice now I've edited the wrong document because when I click on a new Word doc, one that I worked on last automatic pops up on top of it. This is a ridiculous feature! Also, I don't need photos that I looked at yesterday magically opening when I open a new photo in Preview. That can be embarrassing if is someone is looking over my shoulder, if you know what I mean. Do I need to make sure I close all old docs instead of just quitting. Is there a way to just turn this frustrating auto open feature off?

I recently found that the cause for my macbook pro hanging on shut down was due to Kaspersky running in the background. Because quiting it before shutting down every time is annoying is there a way to automate the quitting of an application when I request my computer to shut down?

I have this program installed called KeyAccess (or KeyServer). It is used by my college to allow me access to the licenses to a slew of software provided by the school. However, it loads at startup, and I have no idea how to prevent it from doing so. There's no option to configure it not to, I have tried looking for an entry in StartupItems and Login Items of my Accounts preferences. It is located in the Preferences Pane, its not really a standalone program.

Now out of the blue, if I do that, it loads another instance of Photoshop, which is certainly what I don't want. I can have 2, 3, 4 Photoshops running at the same time and editing the same image!
I searched but all I could find is people wanting the opposite i.e. opening multiple instances of the same app.

I wasn't so concerned about this until my wife started complaining about my MacBook being so noisy. The fan didn't used to be always running. I think it was after I upgraded to OS X 10.5 that the fan decided it would just always be running. I have my MacBook on all the time and usually the applications that are open are, Firefox(with 10 active TABs), iTunes, Azureus, VLC and Mail (and Widgets). It used to only come on if Azureus was real busy. Now the fan will start up soon after I boot up and will even keep running when I close all Apps and only have the Finder open. What can I do to regulate my fan? It doesn't seem to want to control itself. Also, my MacBook never feels overheated. I used to have an iBook and that thing got hot. MacBook with constantly running fan fees real cool in comparison so I don't think the fan needs to be constantly running.

View 21 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to pause a running application? I don't want to quit out of it, but I don't want it to hog my cpu either (what it's using it for, I don't know since it's just frozen on a menu screen). I would think that "Activity Monitor" has something for it, but I didn't see anything.

I just installed VM Fusion 3.0, it is really much faster running Windows Vista with it.
Anyway, my main issue is, when I opened Activity Monitor, I realized that VMF 3.0 runs in the background when the computer start, is there anyway to totally shut it off if I am not using it?
Also, on the top right tool bar, there is a "bi-head" arrow of VMF 3.0, how to get rid of it?
Currently im using the Windows XP partion on my Macbook which runs fine. But the Mac OS X will not start, it will stop running at the white screen with apple logo. I have tryed to re-install it from the disc but still not luck as it still stops at the apple logo. I have run several Hardware tests and its sais that there is no problems.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had terrible problems with my Mac Mini. Apple has replaced the hard drive twice, the SATA cable once and the optical drive once in the first year I've had it. After the latest installation of Lion, I have had repeated problems with the error "Your Mac OS x startup disk has no more space available for application memory." This is false -- I have less than half of my 500 GB in use and 4 GB of wired memory.
I believe that Safari is always running when I get this error. Also, I cannot cleanly quit Safari -- I always must force quit, b/c it hangs when I quit. The last time I got this message, Safari was using 1.26 GB of memory.
My System Memory report is all out of whack:
VM size: 221.25 GB
Page ins: 1.59 GB
Page outs: 40.15 GB
Swap used: 59 GB
This is after only 1 or 2 days of uptime. I have just a couple of weeks left on my Apple Care and am desperate to know if this is hardware problem requiring my 5th trip to the Genius Bar or if this some kind of software problem that I can fix.
On this latest Lion install, I did a clean install with no settings or applications, and I killed extensions on Safari.

Just downloaded it right now and it's excellent! However, I notice a possible flaw in which whenever I receive a message from someone, it will notify me on both my Mac AND my iPhone! As you might imagine, it's pretty annoying given iMessages are flying through on my Mac. I was wondering if anyone knows how to stop iPhone notifications when messaging on Mac. I hope this feature will be added in ASAP from Apple if it doesn't exist yet!

USB Tethering stop working (while WiFi and Bluetooth tethering continue to be ok) on Mac 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard fully updated) after my iPhone device has been updated from iOS 5.0.1 to 5.1.The present issue is not related to the iPhone (Personal Hotspot ok, Carrier/APN settings ok). Moreover, USB layer seems to be ok on Mac also due to the fact that iTunes recognizes it correctly. Network Services on Mac are instead affected. Steps to Reproduce:1. we can protect it.
If there exists plz also mention the application source and installation process.
I've been wondering if there's an application for Mac OSX [ Or even Windows ] where you can build iPhone Applications with drag and drop or kind of WYSIWYG. Something easy and not hard.

View 3 Replies View RelatedHow can I run mail.app remotely on a Mac? I have a desktop and a laptop, both on 10.4.11. The desktop has my mail files, and sometimes I'd like to read them from the laptop. The laptop can log into the desktop over my wireless home network and I can run the copy of mail.app that's on the desktop. But when I do that, it looks for mail files that are on the laptop rather than the desktop.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSomehow, Quicken became broken so I replaced it with new copy and moved old to trash. When trying to empty trash I get the message that the application is still in use and can't remove. When I take the app out of trash and try to open it I get the message "Application is broken or incomplete."
Apparently, some part of the application failed to shut down and continues to run. It does not appear in the list when I try to force quit. Whatever it is that's running is either a memory hog or takes up too much CPU time because the whole system slows down to a point that I can't do any work (just get the spinning color wheel) and I have to manually force system shut-down.
When I restart the computer all works okay (but slow) and starts to degrade over time until the system runs out of whatever resource Quicken is using. Question is: How can I delete this application and eliminate the problem.

My iPhone 5c is receiving the same messages that I've already read on my Macbook Pro and I would like to stop connecting my phone number to the computer. Is there a way to fix this? I am using IOS 1.7.2 if this problem has anything to do with my phone and that has any relevance.
Edit: I would not like to turn iMessage off on my phone, as I use it because a lot of the area I live in does not have service while we have wifi.
