OS X V10.7 Lion :: Name Of User In Shared Folder @ Finder?

Apr 14, 2012

I try to buy music in iTunes. I learned that I have not set correctly the rights on the shared folder in the Finder. I tried to correct the rights to read and write for all three user groups, it´s still not working.I figured that one of the three users is not correct:

1. system (me)

2. wheel

3. everyone

In my case, it´s not showing system, but it´s stating "loading" with a ?.I think I can´t buy music cause of the missing name in the shared folder, right?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Finder Not Showing User Library Folder

Mar 25, 2012

When I open Finder on my iMac, then click on my user name in the sidebar, I am not seeing the Library folder for my user name. I need to modify some of the application support folders for specific applications, but I cannot find them using Finder. These folders are specific to my user name and are not located within the Macintosh HD/Library folder for the entire computer.

They should be in the path Macintosh HD/Users/[my username]/Library/Application Support/[application name].

But for some reason, the "Library" folder doesn't even show up in Finder when I click on Macintosh HD/Users/[my username]. It's visible when I open one of the applications and use preferences to access folders in the application support folder for that application, but not when trying to get to the same location using Finder -- which I need to do in order to copy and paste some of the files.

OS X Mavericks :: Unknown User On Shared Network In Finder

Aug 22, 2014

After downloading a few new apps tonight, both off the App Store and Safari, I noticed that s6761bm0t3r1 had been newly listed under shared.

One of the apps i downloaded ended up changing my homepage and search engine which was annoying but not too unusual.

After changing things back to usual I went to look through finder to see if anything unwanted had been downloaded and that's when i noticed it.  I know it's not my printer because i turned my printer on and it showed up under a different nameI have never had any other machines connect like this to my mac that i know of besides my printerWhen i try to click more info it just keeps on fetching and won't show anythingWhen i try to double click on it it tries to connect and soon after says Connection failedI don't know if it's from something i downloaded but I first noticed it immediately afterwards so I'm thinking it is

Software :: Can't View Shared Folder(s) In Finder?

May 21, 2009

I'm connected via Airport to my company's wireless network. Last week I was able to connect to this network via my Macbook. Went home this weekend, come back and now I can connect and browse the internet, but I can't view the "Shared" folder with other people's public folders and shared files. Any idea what may be wrong?

I don't believe anything has changed, as over the weekend all I did was connect to two wireless networks at my house.

I have no idea what's causing this, and it's making it difficult to retrieve files I need for certain projects.

OS X :: Applications Folder Crashes Finder For One User?

Feb 11, 2008

My main user account went haywire at the weekend - dock disappearing and Finder cycling and rebooting every few seconds. I fixed those issues by trashing the dock and finder .plist files, and all appears to be well except...I cannot access the Applications folder without the Finder crashing. All other folders appear fine.- I can access the Applications folder using another user- I can access the apps themselves from spotlight- I tried trashing .DS_Store - no difference.

OS X :: Bunch Of Shared Drives Or Folders Showed In My Finder Under Shared?

Feb 19, 2010

A couple of months ago I was at the head office and connected to the in house Wifi. When I did, a bunch of shared drives or folders showed in my finder under "Shared". I figured no biggie, when I got away from the head office they'd go away. But they didn't. And I can't figure out how to get rid of them.See attached photo.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: All Files In A Shared Folder Don't Have Permissions

Jun 9, 2012

I have two users on my mac and am having some issues with sharing files.  I created a shared folder and gave the other user read/write permissions.  When I log in as that user, the folder can be accessed, but some of the files in that folder cannot be accessed.  These are all photos, and for the most part I'm dropping them into the shared folder from iPhoto.

I tried it again by using the Public folder with the same result.  However, there isn't consistency with the actual files that don't have permission.  In other words, the shared folder I created may have a file that does not have permission, but that same file does have permission when I dropped it in the Public folder.  So it is totally random as to which files in the shared folder don't have permission to be accessed.

I also tried to simply drag the files to the other user.  Same result.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Shared Computers Displaying In Folder Window?

Apr 30, 2012

I just noticed that on the left side of each folder, there is a section titled "Shared" and it is showing what looks like the computer names of two PC laptops from someone I know. I have never actually done file sharing with these computers, so I'm not sure why they are displaying here? Why do these display here? I come in contact with lots of people all day long and I do not see their computers in this list.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Terminal Command To Give Admin User Privileges In Finder?

Jun 29, 2012

Someone gave me a terminal command that allowed my OS X Admin user permission to make an application alias without having to enter my user password. I've since forgotten the command and wish to use it for a new admin user since my old admin has gremlins on a number of apps but new users are not troubled in same way. I can't beleive Apple would default to requiring a password to make/edit an alias but there you go the distrurbing trend towards their total control of my desktop advances… not to mention User SysPrefs leaking over from another user for keyboard shortcuts and sounds?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Possible To Copy A User's Home Folder On Machine

Mar 20, 2012

I want to sync my MacBook Pro w/ my iMac (both running Lion).I want to be able to come home from a business trip and have all of the new / edited info on my MacBook (new photos (organized & edited), changes to various folders in "documents", random files/folders added to desktop, changes made in iTunes, etc) show up on my iMac, which I work off of while at home. And of course the reverse - sync the changes on my iMac to my MacBook before I travel again.Wouldn't it be possible to copy a User's Home Folder on Machine 1 to an external drive, and then use that to replace / update the Home Folder on Machine 2?Or possibly do a complete Disc Clone (i.e. Super Duper) of Machine 1, and then use that to "restore" Machine 2? What are the pros and cons? And any better solutions? I realize that my proposals may be over simplified, but also that my goal must be a common one.

I can easily put subfolders onto the drive, but if I try to feed it the entire home folder it tosses it out again.  I don't know how to use Finder to reach the /Users folder, where xxx is just a subfolder, but I can do this from the terminal command line; however, then I got stuck on how to proceed: I tried to mount /dev/disk1 [which diskutil shows as its name]; each variation I'v tried runs into some problem: disk busy, not found, etc. I was using sudo commands, so I don't think it's a permissions problem.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Move AppStore Stuff To User Application Folder

Jun 24, 2012

I have set up my mom with an older Macbook Pro of mine to save her from the evils of the PC. I set up two users, one for her and one for me; hers is uber simple (big icons, only the essentials in the doc) mine is crazy complicated. We share apps, of course, which was fine until I realized she is going to want to download Mah Jongg game apps and the like from the App Store, and I would LOVE it if I didn't have to have all that cluttering up the root Applications folder.I already tried to move one app from root to her user's Applications folder and all that moved was an alias, the app stayed at root. So how does one move these things? Is there a way via the finder? Can I use terminal.
