iMessage does not show my phone number on iMac. My family has 3 iPhones we sync to this computer and only the other two are available to checkmark in preferences on the iMac. I tried updating my profile online, but only my number is listed on my account. iMessages works fine on my phone. I've tried signing out and back in and rebooting.Â

All of a sudden my macbook pro's iMessage stopped working! Every time I'd send a message, a red circle with an exclamation point pops up on the side of the message. Somedays it'll be on and off where i could send iMessages but only receive one on my mac. I already reinstalled os x and deleted everything, but iMessage wouldn't work on my mac. Same goes for FaceTime! When I accept a FaceTime call, the whole window goes to the side and disappear.

Sending the same message with a photograph: iMessage will say it has been "delivered" - but then 30 seconds or so later it changes to indicate that transmission failed. Retry never works.Â
I have an iMac currently running 10.6.8 (2.8 GHz i5 processor, 8 GB ram). I downloaded Lion. When I try to install it, everything seems ok, but it does pop a warning saying "OS X Lion: "Some features of Mac OS X Lion are not supported for the disk (volume name)". The "More Info" button takes me to this URL: [url]...kb/HT4649 "This message means the installer cannot create the Recovery HD partition on your hard disk. Recovery HD offers on-disk recovery tools, allows you to restore from Time Machine backups, reinstall OS X Lion over the Internet, or set a firmware password. Recovery HD is not needed to install and run OS X Lion, nor to access most of its capabilities and new features." To be honest, I can live without that. I do my backups with an online service anyways. So I click Continue. The install goes on, and very soon it prompts for a re-boot. So I reboot. When it comes back up, the "About this Mac" still says I'm on 10.6.8.I've done this now five times. I have a feeling I could do it forever and it would never actually install Lion.
View 1 Replies View RelatedEarlier today I received 2 iMessages from another iPhone 4 user, I only realised this now, when I checked my iPhone. He sent them to my mobile number not my email address. They never showed up on my Mac, (messages beta), are only iMessages sent to email addresses received on mac?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI couldn't log into my iMessage account in the Messages application on Mac OS 10.8.5 on my Macbook Pro. At first it would try to log in, then I get a window saying that I couldn't log in and to contact support, . And this was the "validation code" - 2759-9329-5430Â
I called support, they said that there was probably just a glitch and it'd be fixed in an hour... it's been about 4 days. Still can't log in. After I received that first message that took me to this page, then is just started saying "can't log in." .I'm back to getting that "validation code" page link again... Who spilled a beer on the iCloud server again?Â
I Am getting increasingly frustrated that iMessage is working on my iPhone but not on iPad or MacBook Pro. I have tried settings system preferences, taking jabber off etc but still no joy.

I purchased an iMac last October and my line of work demands extensive use of After Effects and Final Cut Pro. My iMac is fitted with the standard 1TB SATA hard drive, and lately I considered installing an SSD drive as I have been experiencing lags. In all my naivete I asked Apple Store/Service outlet where I originally bought my iMac, but they turned me down, claiming that "they are not allowed to order the extra parts and if they do proceed then my warranty will be void". Which means that about 2 years of AppleCare will go out of the window. I can always do it myself, but at the risk of damaging my iMac and facing a null warranty on top of it. I am still reeling in disbelief, is it really the case that Apple prohibits its customers from legitimately upgrading their computer at their own stores?

Several weeks ago I upgraded my mother's MacBook to Lion. I had also intended to buy lion for myself but my iMac's hard drive died.Since Lion was installed the MacBook's battery life has been very, very poor - even booting up can cost 5%. A lot of people gave been discussing this. I have googled this issue and emailed Apple, but there seems to be no solution on the horizon. So I am going to reinstall Snow Leopard on the MacBook.  I had intended to contact Apple to see if a refund would be possible. However, just yesterday I replaced the hard drive in my iMac and it is working fine now. So I was wondering since I paid for the Lion OS, is okay for me to install it on my iMac rather than attempt to get a refund. Is that legal? And would it work? Would the fact that it was bought using my mother's AppleID (my money though ;)) mean that if I install it on my iMac it will make my computer my morher's computer - meaning my morher's login and details will overwrite mine?Â
View 2 Replies View RelatedCompleted a clean install of Lion on 2009 IMac, which initially reacted poorly to an upgrade (my first attempt to move to Lion). How do I reinstall iPhoto, Garageband, Aperture, Final Cut Express, iMovie, Logic Express? These were all preinstalled with original purchase. How would I find the serial numbers that will inevitably be asked for? The App store wants to charge for these items, and other non-Apple software I've purchased for the App store won't download again.

My ideal would be to start from scrach - although I want to keep my itunes and iphotos files as well as my documents. Is there a way to reload back to factory settings then add selected programs and folders from timemachine? I am in the process of timemachine backing up everything now.Â

I'm using a iMac PowerPC G5 that I've received from my brother. He gave it to me with a fresh install of Leopard on it, but he unfortunately no longer has the disc that came with the computer that he also used to format it before handing it to me. With that said, I ordered a new internal hard drive. Naturally, I'll need to re-install Leopard, but I don't have an install disc anywhere. How is this going to be possible? Or will it not be? Do I have to buy a new Leopard install disc? If so where and how much?
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe internal hard drive on my early 2009 iMac is being replaced but I have to reinstall Snow Leopard myself.I did search in MRoogle and at Apple and cannot seem to find instructions on how to perform a clean Snow Leopard install on an iMac internal HD.
Can I do this? And if so how? Or do you think I should try and install Leopard on the existing Hd in the iMac? I still have these discs but have to get the SL applications install disc out of my drive (it's stuck and the iMac won't boot past the blue screen).
I got tiger install discs for my emac but I cant get it to run the install. I tried putting the disc in and clicking the restart button on the screen that says "Welcome to Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger", but when I click it it just restarts my computer and does nothing. I then tried the alternate install it did the same thing it did nothing but restarted my eMac. I then tried restarting my computer while holding c key nothing once again. Then I tried holding down apple, option, f , and o keys and then typed in cd boot and also tried cdrom boot nether of them worked so i restarted and tried dvd boot/dvdrom boot nothing worked on all the occasion i got a grey screen with a circle with a line through it. What do I need to do to get these install discs to work?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI forgot my admin password on my iMac recently and so i used the reboot with OS X snow leopard install disc to reset the keychain, but now on my login screen, it used to be just my account name, there is one called "Other" so i went into accounts in system preferences and tried to delete it but it isnt there?is really annoying me p.s. the "other account" isnt actually an account it says "Other" and when you click on it asks for your username and password...so i type in the admin accounts name and password (admin account is the only one on this computer), and it just opens up my admin account.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just spent the past 5 hours trying to install Windows 7 via BootCamp on my new 27" iMac.
It would get past the initial installation and then after the final reboot just before it runs off the hard drive and asks you for a serial number, the screen would go black and I couldn't do anything.
So I found this solution here:
[URL]
Except the instructions on that site are for an iMac with an NVIDIA Graphics Card. The 27" iMac has an ATI card. So at step 6 I deleted the file named: ATIKMDAG.SYS from the same directory.
Then clicked restart and was able to finish through the install process.
Summary: (from a response below)
The way the iMac 27" DisplayPort works in the system, when installing windows it will output to BOTH the iMac screen and DisplayPort.
When Windows 7 install is reaching a certain point it is making a choice as to which display it believes it the primary display. ]
If you have a display plugged into your iMac's display port or have that ability you will see your install is working just fine, the problem is just that windows believes the active displayport on the back of the iMac is the primary display and moves all video to the port..
that is why you see a black screen. Rebooting and doing the driver deletion steps does work as it will allow windows to run on a generic driver unable to make that choice.
Note: you will need an additional monitor and a Mini-Display Port adapter to plug the monitor into the iMac to use the above method.
The BootCamp driver that loads only give a max resolution of 1980 X 1440 so everything looks stretched. Installing the ATI drivers from ATI did no good. (See the update below to fix this)
Also be aware that only the keyboard will be active during the install so you will need a usb mouse unless your really good at navigating Windows with only a keyboard.
UPDATE:
After installing Windows 7 if you run windows update there is an update available for the ATI card. Once installed and restarted the resolution is now fixed.
When you go into the resolution settings in Windows 7 the display now shows up as a color LCD and the max available resolution is 2560 x 1440.
i am looking at ram upgrade options as i am about to dive in and purchase the 27" quad core imac.i know we need to install in pairs but do the 'pairs' need to match. can i leave the 2mb pair that comes with the computer AND add a pair of 4mb giving a total of 12mb?
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust wanted to find out if any one will do a clean install of SL on their new imac? I hear there is a lot of bloatware ie Printer Drivers, Asian Language Fonts etc that take up a lot of unnecessary HD space.
I'm getting an i7 very soon waiting for possible iLife update, but will pull trigger what ever happens before July 7th for educational discount.
