View 1 RepliesI'm migrating the admin side of my life to my iMac. I am using Mac mail for my mai, this includes a Gmail IMAP account and a POP3 account for my meandering ISP. The IMAP one loads up fine with the IMAP folders there under a sub set of folders for the account. But the POP3 account won't let me create folders within it nor does it have a subset like the Geekwolf one you see below. What do I need to do to get it to have folders, I need to be able to sort incoming mail, but at the moment, I can't.My ISP does have an IMAP setting, but I don't want to have the mail sat about on a server.Â

I'm using Mac OSX 10.7.3. Since a few days, I've some trouble with Time Machine. When TM would create a new backup in the normal hourly loop it creates the message: Time machine has completed the review of its backups. To improve the reliability time machine must create a new backup.
Now I've to options:
1. I can create a new backup later
2. create a new backup
I don't want to create a new backup, I want to use the old one. I still have enough space on my backup volume. I'm using the Airport Extreme and a WD hard drive.

Many users are prompeted to reuse or create a new backup.
The problem is I log in with credentials of 'USER A', and on the dialog it lists another 'USER B', userb.sparsebundle as the file to reuse. Â
I recently had a iMac hard drive die, and i tired to use the time machine on the server, with 'USER A' credentials, i got 4 listings and none of them were 'USER A'Â
I check the drobo and 'USER A''s sparsebundle is there. I have tried changeing permissions to read the sparsebudle, but the bundle is a 250k file, not a diskimage of the files even. Â
How do i resolve this problem of the wrong users coming up on "reuse or create new backup"?Â
How do i access the lost sparsebundle that i cannot log into to get the files for the user that needs them?

How do I create groups in Mail and then add contacts to that group?
Info:iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)
I use "Lion" and there seems to be an issue in trying to create or add to existing e-mail groups? When I add to an existing group it looks good but when I try to use it.I only get what was there when originally created under "Snow Leopard". New groups also look god in creation but then are non functional when selected for group e-mailing?

I have a 1tb external for time machine back up and have about 750 gb of stuff to back up. I was under the impression that when time machine backs up my stuff it will automatically delete the oldest backup to create room for the newer backup.
My problem is that i did a back up a couple weeks ago and then today i go to back up and it tells me back up failed only 718gb available for 740gb of stuff to back up
anyone have this problem? how can i fix it?
Following Apples instructions on backing up the mail data and restoring as well as what I have so far found on the various forums has allowed me to move 99% of my mail to my new computer pretty much spot on except for one thing - the outgoing SMTP server list. Is there somewhere else I need to be looking for that information?Â
I have quite a few email accounts and with that comes quite a few outbound SMTP servers, much to my dismay I discovered that all of that information did not restore when I put the mail data all back into place. Now I assumed that perhaps it was in my keychain, but that would just be the passwords for the servers and not the list itself and the attachment of the various mail accounts to their respective SMTP servers, right?Â
So, my question is two-fold: one, is there a way to get that list back and have it attached to my 20+ email accounts and if I can do that then two, where in the keychain do I look in order to also get all those passwords back as well? It's not the end of the world, but just a big pain the butt.Â
On a side note, but related, I've also noticed that about 1/3rd of the email accounts I restored just won't log in and get mail, they just "spin" and bomb out, generally saying the password is bad even though I've put it in correctly numerous times (my mobile me account is one that comes to mind). Is this a known side effect of restoring? My only solution so far has been to delete those accounts and re-create them.Â

I've just bought my iMac which came with no backup/bootable software discs at all (unlike new PC's). So from my over an hour reading from GOOGLE with conflicting answers from what I can gather "Time Capsule" cannot create a bootable copy of your hardrive ... So, I as have a 1TB harddrive with the iMAC some questions I have are :
1. ) Do I need to purchase a 2TB external hard drive (minimum) to create a clone of the current harddrive & any future information stored on it as I intend to backup once a month. It "MUST" be a bootable backup as I have no discs!
2.) Is there any "cloud" storage services that I can make a bootable backup on that which can be accessed later to download via another PC or MAC to a harddrive/memory stick etc. & then uploaded to the new replacement hardrive in my iMAC?
3.) Off the subject altogether but just thought of it! I hate the keyboard with the iMAC even though its stylish it isn't lit which isn't helping me at night! So when using my old keyboard (which does light up) can I tell the iMAC to use the sign in the normal place rather than the number 2 key as well as other keys which are in different places on the iMAC compared to a PC keyboard !!!

Well I´ve synchronized my new Macbook with my old Backup. my 1tb external hard disk is now not enough space to do the new back up from my new Macbook.Â
Can I delete the old Backup to create space?

I used Carbon Copy Cloner to create a bootable backup of my internal hard drive. I was wondering how you initiate the bootable backup if I do have an internal hard drive failure? Do I just plug the drive in and power the computer on? Are there any other steps/precautions I should consider.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two computers using one Time Machine Disk. The physical disk is connected to my Mac Mini, and it's shared over the network to my MacBook Air. The picture below is the backup disk in case you didn't guess. The notebook is my MacBook Air. So the MacBook Air backs up just fine, but every time my Mac Mini tries to back up, it pops up with "Would you like to reuse the backup "*DIRECTORY TO MACBOOK AIR'S BACKUP*" with this computer?" also shown in the picture below. So I click "Create new backup" and it seems to backup in the Mac Mini's backup folder like it should... until next time. I just want it to back up normally, both of them, without asking me anything first. Until now, I've just disabled automatic backups for my Mac Mini and would backup whenever I felt needed.
View 8 Replies View RelatedTwo days ago my computer died and I haven't been able to get past the Apple screen since. I've tried starting in Safe mode, etc. that did not work. I just started up using my installation disk and got into Disk Utility. It says it cannot repair the disk and that I should back up as many files as possible and reformat the disk. How am I supposed to back up if I can't start up? I am currently creating a new image of the HD to an external drive but my question is if Disk Utility couldn't repair the disk, with the external drive copy also be problematic? How can I tell before I reformat the whole thing and start over?

I have a mid-2008 (June) MBP 15". Just upgraded to SL last night. I am having a serious issue with time machine. I've been using it with the same external HD since I bought my mac last year. No issues up until I installed SL last night. This morning (my first backup since upgrading), time machine started backing up (~ 9Gb) but just stops at around 300Mb. The clock keeps spinning, but there is no change in the amount backed up.
I'm reading that other folks are having this issue as well. Has anyone figured something out?I've run disk repair (nothing found), restarted my mac & external HD (several times each), and cancelled and restarted the time machine backup (several times). Each time it freezes at a different amount (i.e. 34Mb, 284.2Mb, etc...).
i just bought a second hand ibook G4 power pc 933mhz mac os x 10.3.9 recently, the problem start when i can't create a new account for the Mail. Once mail application has loaded but i can't click to preferences as most of the function do not highlight.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a external HD which has always worked fine under snow leopard. Since upgrading to lion I keep getting the following message The identity of the backup disk has changed since the previous backup. The disk may have been replaced or erased, or someone may be trying to trick your computer into backing up to the wrong disk. And after this the drive disappears from the desktop appearing agian only after restart. What can I do do rectify this? Delete and re-intialise the drive?

Trying to backup to Passport Time machine. Has worked fine until a few days ago.
Since updating Safari recently to 5.1.5, if I choose the Mail Link to This Page command, instead of opening Mail.app with a new email with the link pasted in, it launches Google Chrome and, in Chrome, goes to the email login page for Google webmail. If I choose the Mail Contents of This Page command, I get an error message stating: "Safari can't create an email message because Google Chrome.app doesn't support sending webpages from Safari. You can use the Mail application included with Mac OS X to send webpages." Safari is set as my default browser. This behavior started immediately after the 5.1.5 update.I use these commands pretty regularly and, through many version of mail.app and Safari, there has never been a glitch. Any ideas, folks? Or is this a bug introduced by 5.1.5 or some other recent Software Update? (Software updates are completely up to date and on 10.7.3.)

my TM wil not back up! It states that this backup is too large for the backup disk. The back up disk requires 573.50 GB but only 225.23 GB are available. The TM needs work space on the backup disk, in addition to the space required to store backups. Upen TM perferences to select a LARGER backup disk or make the backup smaller by excluding file.Â
Okay I;m sorry but obvioulsy I dont get this. I've never called Apple for help! I have every product they sell practically including Protection Plans I never used and no one will help me with this. I would like to back everything up- can I delete everything on the Time Capsule or Time Machine; god I dont even know what it is called Im so MAD... help if you can please. I'm going to have to take this to the genius people at the store and probably buy another computer but like before they will not save my files.
