May 6, 2012I am a recent convert to the Mac. I have not found it an easy transition: not by any means. Absolutely love the iPhone and my iPad - but the MacBook Pro has been a huge disappointment. It is in serious danger of becoming nothing more than just a nice thing to look at. I am really struggling to get to grips with what are much more than just nuances over Windows.My latest problem concerns .pdf's opened in Preview.
I am sure that, initially, I had no problem with "saving a version" - now, all of a sudden it says that:"... could not be saved. You don't have permission."It tells me to find the document in Finder, and then look in "get info" - I do that. I have Read and Write permissions. I have unlocked the document, I have given "others" read/write permissions - I have tried everything, but still no joy.

Dec 11, 2014Whenever I try to open a file associated with Preview by double-clicking the file I get the following error message...
If I open Preview first and then open the same file from within Preview it works fine. I've tried going into Info for various filetypes and changing the "Open with:" value to change it to something else then change it back to Preview but that doesn't change the behavior. As you can see in the error message it says "Acorn created this file on August 27, 2014"... what that means. I tried deleting the Acorn app but get the same error message..

Intel Mac :: PDF Document Opened With Preview Does Not Show French Accents
Mar 24, 2012They show a blank space for all the accented vowels.If I open the same document with Safari, it's the same. But with Chrome, it works perfectly.
I assume there's a problem with fonts, but, nothing wrong with fontbook (checked duplicates for instance).
Last information : it looks ok within chrome on my Imac, but the issue comes back when I try to print from chrome app...the accents are gone on the sheet.

I hate the fact that I open a folder containing pictures (which aren't imported to iPhoto), and i have to select all the photos in order for them to be viewable in the same window in Preview. I know I know, im lazy, but seriously, you don't need to have that extra step in order to be able to scroll through the pictures. On Windows you just double click the picture and then all you have to do is click left or right to view the next photo in the folder. Is there any program strictly for viewing photos like preview?

Mar 24, 2012I updated from snowleopard to lion (10.7.3) and corresponding latest itunes version. My itunes library is on a Qnap Nas TSs 109-II. It has got latest available firmware 3.3.2 Build 0918T. I mount the NAS volumes with the following script:

I can access the volumes using e.g. finder fine. Files open up and can be saved. iphoto also works from volumen media. Only itunes crashes a few seconds after being opened "unexpected end". I have searched and tried a lot. No success.

Feb 8, 2012I am using Lion 10.7 , I assigned dreamweaver to desktop1 by choose Options > This Desktop when in desktop1. Then relaunch DW and it correctly opened in desktop 1. Now if i open a file using in finder (which is itself assigned to desktop3) on a file that is default to DW then Dreamweaver moves itself to Desktop3.
I thought the point was that we could assign different applications to different spaces and they would stay that way. Are we saying that if a file is opened from finder its default application will be moved and set up of spaces does not apply ?.
