OS X V10.7 Lion :: Change The Name Of Printer?
May 23, 2012
How do I change the name of my printer so I know on my iPad to which printer I am sending a document to? I went on and changed it on HP utility, but it still shows up as the same name as the other printer in the house and I can't differentiate to the one downstairs and the one upstairs on my iPad.

I was having problems printing from my Canon LBP6000. Print jobs remained held in the queue. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Mac CAPT Ve r340 driver from Canon's website, no improvement. The printer works fine with my Windows laptop. I found an option to remove all printers from the Print preferences section. I can't remember how I did this, but all printers were removed. I reinstalled the above driver, but now in the 'print & scan' - 'add printer' section, I have no printer options. And no idea how to get printer options.

I have an iMac 27" (intel 3.4 GHz, Intel core i7, and 16 GB memroy) purchased a few months ago. It is running the latest version of Lion 10.7.4 I run this computer on our network along with a iMac 24" 3.5years old and a Macbook Pro 2.5year old.Â
This computer seems to have a beef with the Hewlett-Packard printer (HP colour laser jet CM1312nfi MFP) which I have had for about 3 years. I can not get the new computer to work with the printer properly. It allows printing but it pauses all the time when you resume the print it starts printing from the begining of the document againIt will pause any prints sent to it across the network after the first 1 or 2 pages are printedIt won't allow scanning at allWhen you launch the scanner it takes forever to connect (3 - 4 mins)If you try to scan using any of the scan options (if it loads the devise) it then states it can not connect to the device, or all the scan buttons apear but greyed out. This is odd as it will still allow printing??Â
Also, all the other PC's have the same version of Lion 10.7.4 and have the latest HP Driver installed (these were released on the 14 Dec 2011). Other useful infoThe scanner is hard wired to the 27" machineYou can only use the printer if one scanner is hard wired as it does not have wirless capacity.I have uninstalled and installed the software more times than i can count trying all different trouble shooting etcI can only conclued that there is somthing the 27" machine is doing to prevent the scnanner registering properlyNone of the other computers can use the scanner correctly either. As you can only scan a page at a time using the "Scan" button. If I wish to scan multiple pages on with either of the other computers I need to use the "scan to folder" button.Â

We can't figure out how to change our printer settings to print in draft mode. The system only allows for standard mode which is very slow printing. Our HP Office Jet 4680 allows for draft mode printing.

How can I change from the paper cassette to the paper feed on the back of the printer? I've checked the documents that came with the printer, but they are silent on this subject. Anything online is just a repeat of what they sent with the printer. There are help files, but I have a post on that subject elsewhere.

My HP Laserjet was working fine (for months). Then suddenly, the print dialogue box began saying "printer disconnected" (when it was clearly connected). I've tried a variety of things to no avail:
1. I'm trying to print wirelessly using an AirPort Express (the way I've been doing it).
2. Updated the software for the AE
3. Re-set the printing system
4. Unplugged and replugged cables
5. Re-booted the AE and then did a factory re-set on the AEÂ
I simply can't figure out why I can't seem to "see" the printer in the "add a printer" box. Running 10.7.4

I have had my MacBook Pro now for a little over 2 yrs and I was very frustrated I could not change any print options in any application. I know that the Triangle button expands print options screen but when I do, I have only two print choices. It gave me Standard or Page Attributes in Office and any other App it is Standard and Last used settings. I can't print in Draft, Best or other setting because it does not even give them as a choice. I have two high end color photo printers, Canon i9900 and Epson Photo series and an old HP830 series. Any app I tried to print from and the same thing. I tried to capture the options on the choices but it would not grab that part of the image but here is my screen shot. I searched many forums and I still get the same answer so something else is not letting me change things so I figured best to ask since I am a 20 year win user now switched to Mac. Well right after I posted this question, my wife found the answer. I never though to check the application NAME in the print setting screen. Example, in the screenshot I am using Preview. I never thought to hit the up/down arrow next to the Preview label and wouldn't you know, that is were the quality and several other settings were. I felt pretty stupid that it took 2 years to figure this out but if I posted the answer maybe someone else will not have to take as long as I did to change their print quality!

I bought an HP Photosmart Premium C310 printer and I am having trouble. Apparently they are not compatible with with Mac OS X v10.7 Lion. I called HP before I bought it and they recommended this printer. I would like to know which would be the best wireless printer for my Mac Book Pro. Any suggestions? I am sending this printer back.

I just picked up an Officejet Pro 8500 A909g all in one printer. According to HP all drivers are available from Apple. When the Add Printer dialog tries to download the drivers I get a message that they are not available. Say What?! So I search the forums and find a link to all HP drivers simply install. So I do. I go back and try to Add the printer again but the stupid dialog tries to down load the driver even after I installed all drivers. What is the deal? How can I get Lion to use the **** printer? This has to go down as the worst change in upgrade history on Mac OS X.

I am trying to add a printer to my computer.Â
I go to the Print and Scan utility, click the '+', and the Add Printer box pops up. My Default option is empty, grayed out, I can't manually add anything to it.Â
My other options are Fax, IP, and Windows. Neither one of my wireless printers are detected on any of these headings. My "Print Sharing" option is enabled. The printer is online, I can print just fine from my PC. I also tried connecting the printer to my Mac via USB and still it wasn't detected. All my software is updated, including drivers.Â
I tried calling Apple and they want me to pay $50 to have my computer print. I have spent four hours online with no success. I am about 5 seconds away from throwing my MacBook Air out the window, or ripping my hair out.Â

I have a networked printer in my home network. I also have a (working) PPTP VPN set up to connect to that home network while on the road. When I open the VPN tunnel, I can adress all devices on the network, including the printer. I can ping it as well as open its Web front end (via Safari). The only thing that doesn't work is: I can't print over the tunnel! I've tried turning on "send all traffic over VPN", but that didn't help. Some research on the web seems to indicate that the solution lies in an option "Exclude Local LAN from Tunnel". This, however, is not an option for the built-in PPTP client in Lion.Â

I have Mac OS 10.7.3 I keep getting the message 'there was problem connecting to server epson 6649b7. I go to that printer, which was never an active printer, but it will not allow me to delete it. The only option I am given is resume printing / supply levels / printer setup. Even if I correctly choose Epson WF600 as my default printer, I still get that message popping up constantly.

In the office where I work with my Mac there's a Canon copier/scanner model iR2318. Months ago I downloaded and installed the Lion compatible drivers required that worked fine. Yesterday (with no reason, no changes, nothing at all: just working) the printer started to refuse to print as it asked for a different paper format: A4 or Letter. Despite many attempts to specifically send print jobs in A4, which is the paper format loaded in the tray, the printer continued to refuse all prints.Today I ended up removing the printer from the list, as it became unnecessary, and I also liked to uninstall the printer driver as well, since Canon released a newer version.Currently, when trying to reinstall the printer, 2 drivers are displayed: UK and US. This lets me assume that those 2 drivers are still installed in my system: I wanted to remove both of them and start from scratch by reinstall the driver and he printer as the system was new. How can I remove the driver, so that Lion won't recognize it and that I could make a clean install of the previous working printer?

Before the 10.7.4 update, my HP Color LaserJet CM2320nf multi fucntion printer worked just fine with the built in OS X print drivers. I had the printer shared on the network via my iMac (2011) over USB and other devices could print to it via Bonjour.Â
As soon as the 10.7.4 update hit, printing has been an issue. Whenever a print job is sent to the printer over the network the printer displays a 'Please Insert Paper' warning that has to be cleared on the device itself before the print will continue, even though the printer is full of paper... This does not happen when printing from the iMac itself, only when using the iMac to share the printer.Â
10.7.4 seems to have been a really buggy update as it has caused problems with Wifi becoming unusable until the iMac is rebooted.Â

Just out of the blue, I can't print using my epson 600, a multi use printer that I have set up on my network.
The strange thing is my scaning driver is there and working, but my wireless printer is not there. I can see my Epson Printer, but its not the wireless driver, its the older driver for using the cable.
