I need to change the "created" and "modified" time stamps on a group of tif files created in Photoshop CS5? Tried using Terminal and got this error message: out of range or illegal time specification: [[CC]YY]MMDDhhmm[.SS]Â
I have never tried to use Terminal before, so I really don't know what I'm doing.Â
Before upgrading to 10.5.6., if I attached a file, I'd see not just the date but the time it was last saved. This seems to have disappeared (along with my time received column in Mail).
View 3 Replies View RelatedNormally, a Folder "Date Modified" does not change unless the folder itself changes (name, etc). Is it possible to "force" a Folder "Date Modified" timestamp to change when an enclosed file is changed/updated? I want to look at a folder and know the date/time of the latest enclosed file/folder change. This is especially important to me when using syncing apps as I want to visually see by a folders date that a sync has occurred (the actual file change may be deeply nested within the folder.)
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend and I have been sharing her Kodak camera for a while now. We use it to take family photos and such. I then use iPhoto to import the photos and break them up into events. Well, I let my girlfriend use the camera about 3 months ago and she changed the time stamp of the photos to 2008 instead of 2009 somehow. I sat down about a week ago to import all the photos we had since taken and was shocked when iPhoto put the new events way back with events from 2008. I then realized the time stamp was off and about had a fit. I quickly rectified the problem on the camera so this will no longer be an issue, but we have tons of great photos which are all incorrectly dated.
And call me a perfectionist, but its driving me nuts!! Now whenever I'm showing friends and family photos I have to scroll way back to 2008, and its just not fluid. I have tried quite a few things to change the date stamp. I cant seem to find any options in iPhoto, so I went into finder and opened the "Get Info" pain to see if I could manually change it, but no dice. I've googled for a week now and cant seem to find an answer. Does anyone know of some software that can handle this or a trick im overlooking? (Just to clarify, by date stamp, im not referring to the date image ingrained on the picture itself, but rather the date the camera assigns to the image file.)
I noticed that hundred of files had been modified in a two hour period. Is this normal? What caused it?

I do video depositions which requires me to place the date and time on my video when the video was shot. Currently I have to ingest my video into a Windows computer and run it through a time stamping program called VTS DV timestamp [URL] This program is awesome other than the fact I have to use Windows. I would like to use nothing by my mac but alas, I have not been able to find a program that works. FCP time code generator does not work like I want it to.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOne of my clients just purchased a Macbook Pro over the holidays (first time switcher from Windows PCs), and is using Entourage 2008 in place of Outlook 2007. (I used the excellent conversion utility from [URL] to move all his Outlook data over to Entourage.) So far, so good, except he ran into a bug I couldn't resolve for him. Apparently, if his laptop goes to sleep, when he wakes it back up, he receives a bunch of new emails into Entourage that all have the exact same date/time stamp on them (of the time the machine woke from sleep). Other than turning off sleep mode, or always making sure Entourage is closed down before the laptop goes to sleep, is there a fix for this issue?

I received an email with a pdf file that I had to complete and send back. I opened the document with Preview, made the changes to complete the form, and saved it ("saved as" because the program wouldn't let me just "save" it. A box popped up saying that changes may affect the original format and that I had to "save as" to get a copy of the file). I opened it again just to make sure, and all the changes were there. I sent it via gmail, and a few hours later the original sender tells me that the form was empty. I checked, and it was empty, even though the name of the file was the one I gave it. I tried again with the same result. Using a PC I had no problems, so I am guessing that the issue is with Preview. Does anyone know what I did wrong?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a few RAR files I downloaded from the internet. They are sitting in my Downloads folder. These are some of the latest files I've downloaded, but when I sort by Modified and Created Date, they are scattered throughout the folder. The dates the files have are from before I even downloaded them.
I'm used to Windows where I could sort by Modified or Created date and I could see the latest files I downloaded in descending order from the most recent to the oldest. So, is OSX different, am I misunderstanding something or is there something weird about these RAR files? Furthermore, when I unpack the RAR files, their modified/created date is not today's date.

When I first got it, I wasn't able to move any files to my Western Digital External (that works with my previous blackbook) and my other external. It says The item '(item name)' could not be moved because 'System' (or other folder name) cannot be modified. iWork 09 and Virtual Dj don't work either. I want to reformat the hdd, but I can't do that until I backup everything, which I can't do. I tried the second solution "Type this, followed by Return: sh /etc/rc" and my Mac said could not find this directory.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just setup my new iMac (coming from a PowerMac G5). There is another PowerMac G5 on the same network that is still in use.
With my old setup, I was able to access the other PowerMac computer including all files...I found see, copy, change everything on the other computer. I don't recall how I initially did it but it worked great.
I can't seem to duplicate it on the new iMac. On the PowerMac still in use, it says that Admins are supposed to have total access but my access seems very limited. It will only work for folders that I specifically add in File Share and even then it says some items are locked and can't be modified when I open them on my iMac.
It seems as if I am not gaining access as an Admin but as a regular user. What am I doing wrong here?
I have this nagging problem for a while, all the "date modified" in most of my folders (application, documents,utility, libraries, download, etc.) are wrong. They all show up with january dates, some this year, some previous years. Recent modifications are noted as "today" and "yesterday", beyond that I get january dates. My date and hour preferences are set ok. Repaired permissions quite a few times, nothing changed. Waited for few system updates (10.7.3 - 10.7.2 - 10.7.1) hoping it would correct itself, but no.

I have mail shifted to iCloud. Still receive/send for convenience primarily via the postage stamp icon in the dock. Will this disappear with Mobile Me - after June 30? How about RSS feeds going direct to mail program? They appear in "mail" via the dock but not on iCloud side.?

The image I want isn't in the new computer, but neither finder or Time Machine will let me acess the "pictures" folder from the old machine's backup. In get info, permissions on the folder say "custom" (whatever that means - I don't ever remember setting it. Is there any way I can get to these files? How can you change permissions on a file that was created on a different computer?

I go the "Browse other time machine disks" route but when it opens all it ever shows me is a single file with the name of my old HD. It won't display any files inside that volume. Â
I can "Show package contents" on the file itself to get to the files inside but it seems like some files are restored in time machine only.
Specifically the itunes library file gets broken into ,last, add , delete files, which my current iTunes install errors on when trying to import.

I couldn't enter Time Machine backups, that is, "Enter Time Machine" from the Time Machine menu item did nothing. I tried Postini's recommendations about resetting, repairing the sparsebundle image, and tried accessing with the bundle mounted. Nothing worked.Â
What did work was Time Machine Preferences>Select Disk… and clicking Do Not Back Up. Then a new item appears in the Time Machine menu items: "Browse Other Backup Disks…" Selected that and then selected my backup. And then I was in.Â
My purpose was to delete some large movies that were taking up too much space. I went back to the Finder and opened the folder where the movies had been (I had deleted them in the Finder) then went back to "Browse Other Backup Disks…" and there was the folder in Time Machine. And I deleted the files. I was later able to reselect my Backup disk and the options were still saved.However I haven't seen the space recovered yet. I may have to read more on compressing the disk image if it doesn't fix itself soon. Â

After upgrading to an SSD, i was having problems with restoring files from Timemachine. i fiexed that by naming my ssd drive the same as the drive that was backedup using time machine. now, i can't seem to edite any of the files restored in Documents from the backup. not can i edit or add content inside the folders withing documents. i dont know whats going on. they appear lock and there is no way to unlock them. it says i will need to duplicate the items!Â
View 4 Replies View RelatedAwhile back I installed a wonderfully speedy SSD in my mid-2009 MBP. I used Time Machine to "restore" my stuff. I thought it odd that after that, song files would come up as "locked"...after awhile I realized that EVERY song file in the iTunes Library was now "locked". The FOLDERS are NOT locked, but all the mp3 files within each folder ARE locked.Â
I know, of course, that "command-i" and uncheck the locked box works on each individual file, but how do I do this on the entire library? Is that even possible? The tedium of opening every single folder and unlocking every file individually would be insane. Is there any way to select the iTunes Music folder and have all the files in all subfolders "unlocked" at once?
