I couldn't find any resolve from anyone on this topic in older forums, but I have the folder generated and backed up on my iMac and my backup drive, a DROBO. I managed to get rid of the lost+found items on the iMac, but the DROBO says "The operation cant be completed because the item dir_1558208 is in use." as well as the rest of the contents.

I am trying to copy a 650MB .mov file (shot on a Canon 5D) from a lacie rugged external harddrive to my G-Raid but it stops at 22.5mbs and then I get the error code "can't complete the operation because some data in "8T2C1814" move can't be read or written. (Error code -36). " I then click on OK and I get the following window: "The operation can't be completed because one or more required items can't be found. (Error code -43)"I am very worried as these are the only original copies on the external harddrive and I'm nervous about performing even a repair command on the from Disk Utility.

When I try to copy large files over to my Network Attached Storage device, such as Movies or TV Shows, It comes up with the following message, (see picture below) even though I have no other Applications open in my Dock. Is there something I'm missing? It's an intermittent fault too which suggests something wrong is going on, which probably isn't my fault.

I just setup my new iMac (coming from a PowerMac G5). There is another PowerMac G5 on the same network that is still in use.
With my old setup, I was able to access the other PowerMac computer including all files...I found see, copy, change everything on the other computer. I don't recall how I initially did it but it worked great.
I can't seem to duplicate it on the new iMac. On the PowerMac still in use, it says that Admins are supposed to have total access but my access seems very limited. It will only work for folders that I specifically add in File Share and even then it says some items are locked and can't be modified when I open them on my iMac.
It seems as if I am not gaining access as an Admin but as a regular user. What am I doing wrong here?

I've been getting the "error -36" "operation could not be completed because file "" could not be read or written when trying to backup one external firewire drive to another drive (either another external firewire, or my internal startup drive). After the error, the copy operation will hang and be impossible to cancel, forcing a find relaunch about 50% of the time.
-Disk Utility finds no problems with the disk
-The filenames do not contain illegal characters
-If I try enough times the problem file(s) will eventually copy, but then another file will become the problem, suggesting that the file itself is NOT actually corrupted. After successful copy, the file (an MP3) plays just fine. Subsequently, I will have trouble copying that same file again.
There are no strange noises from the HD and I can feel the vibrations from it spinning as normal. My guess is that the HD is on its last legs and is acting flaky but that the data is still OK. What can I do to rescue the data before the damn thing dies completely? Now before anyone jumps on me to UTFSE, I have searched extensively, but havent found anything that addresses my specific situation (especially the part about the files being randomly OK and not OK.

After migrating to Mac last year, I've also begun my migration to iWork from Office. I now have one problem that I can't seem to resolve. I am trying to paste chemical structures from Chemdraw into my slides, however each item I paste have different size. However, my chemical compounds are a specific size that I need to keep constant. Is there a way for me to alter the size of items i'd like to post by altering the percentages? In the past, I'd alter the item's properties in powerpoint and change the item's size percentage.

I have this nagging problem for a while, all the "date modified" in most of my folders (application, documents, utility, libraries, download, etc.) are wrong. They all show up with january dates, some this year, some previous years. Recent modifications are noted as "today" and "yesterday", beyond that I get january dates. My date and hour preferences are set ok. Repaired permissions quite a few times, nothing changed. Waited for few system updates (10.7.3 - 10.7.2 - 10.7.1) hoping it would correct itself, but no.

I use Time Machine to wirelessly backup my MBA to a Buffalo NAS. It will work fine for weeks or months, then I will see the dreaded "Time Machine completed a verification of your backups. To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup for you.” error. Of course this means I lose all my backups.I have researched this pretty thoroughly and I know that using TM with a NAS has some risk. But I am hoping to not have to resort to dragging out a USB drive everytime (daily) I want to do a backup. Can anyone share sucess stories of how they make TM work reliably with a NAS? Is it a Buffalo problem and a different NAS works better?

If I use Time Capsule as my backup hard drive for Time Machine, can I still use the rest of the storage to share items over my wireless network? In other words, by using Time Capsule with Time Machine, do I lose the ability to use Time Capsule as a shared network drive? Also, if I CAN use it as a shared network drive, can I set permissions for who on the network can access certain files and folders?

I have a 10mth old MBP. I've been using time machine for just as long. However, I recently changed the external HD that I am using for my time machine backups. My MBP uses about 130GB of space. The folders that I am excluding take up about 50GB. This means I should only be backing up 80GB of info onto my external HD using Time Machine. Even under the Time Machine Preferences, the estimated space says ~80GB.
However, when I start the backup, initially it say 0MB of 69GB. And then when it reaches 69GB, the amount just increases. e.g. 72.3GB of 72.3GB. 79.25GB of 79.25GB. And it just keeps going till 80+ 90GB. For some reason, it is ignoring the excluded command. I've tried reformatting my external HD as well as disabling time machine and doing everything from scratch. But it still ignores my Excluded items.

The problem is that full Os backup should be about 155 GB, but it tries to backup whole disk 1 TB. It works fine for first full backup 155 GB (I have exclude list) after that it wants to backup whole disk no matter what. No such problem with 10.6.2 just with 10.6.3. Image so we are clear. I'm new to Mac OS X.

Normally, a Folder "Date Modified" does not change unless the folder itself changes (name, etc). Is it possible to "force" a Folder "Date Modified" timestamp to change when an enclosed file is changed/updated?I want to look at a folder and know the date/time of the latest enclosed file/folder change. This is especially important to me when using syncing apps as I want to visually see by a folders date that a sync has occurred (the actual file change may be deeply nested within the folder.)

For some reason, my Macintosh HD has ended up on my list of items to exclude from backup (in the Options section of Time Machine preferences). I can't do the recommended thing of highlighting the HD and pressing the minus sign, because my HD is grayed out on the Exclude list and unable to be highlighted.

A new menu bar item caught my eye a couple of days ago. Identical icon to the Eject button on the keyboard. upward pointing triangle with a line under it. Click on it and it says, greyed out, "SuperDrive F12". Is this Apple code or someone else's? Do I need it cluttering up the menu bar? Probably not. But how do I get rid of it? And even more important, how do I look for the unwanted code that may be doing unwanted routines in this Mac? Or is this thing totally benign? Anyone familiar with this one?
