OS X :: Photoshop Files Compatable With PS Extended?
Feb 11, 2010I have a nice opportunity to purchase low priced student Adobe Suites right now as i am enrolled in Photoshop CS4 and Illustrator CS4 classes.
Here is my concern: I would like to purchase the Masters Collection or the Design Premium. Both of these suites have Photoshop Extended. They do not have just plain old Photoshop.
Will I be confused or unable to use PS Extended if I am learning standard PS in my class?
Will the DVD of lessons for my class (including images that are to be manipulated in standard Photoshop) work with PS Extended?
OS X V10.7 Lion :: Some Files Not Showing Up On NTFS Drive
Mar 22, 2012I have two NTFS external drives. I used to copy files through my bootcamp partition which is Windows 7. However, when I copy certain videos from my Mac partition. It shows up normally on windows side, when I get back to Mac OS, I cannot see them. Everything else are showing up fine, exactly for certain video files, with both NTFS drives missing the same files. When I connect both to another PC, both are showing up those files fine.

OS X :: Backed Up PC Files On NTFS HDD And Getting A Mac?
Apr 27, 2010I sold my Sony Viao last week and copied all my important files on a 250 GB WD Mybook drive. Now the thing is formated in NTFS and I know that NTFS is a windows thing. I have some video/pictures/music and documents(excel/word) that I would like to move to my Macbook Pro which I will be buying next week. Whats the best way to do this? I think I have around 50-60 GBs that I need to move.

Oct 5, 2009I am running a MAC pro with OSX 5.8 and I'm trying to read/write files that are on a NTFS windows share point. Th eshare point is on an IBM AS400 machine. My problem is this, I can connect to the share point via the "connect to server" apple-K command and I can see the files and folders on the share point.
Recently another windows user has created a folder on the share point with some excel files in it. From my Mac I can't see this folder, it doesn't appear in the finder. I have Parallels 3 (windows XP) installed on the mac as well and when I connect to the same share point I can see and use the new folder.

Jul 16, 2010While coping a lot of files from the NTFS drive(to a MBP13" '09) it caused my computer to freeze up, and I had to force a shut down via the power button . Anyone else have problems like this copying a large quantity of files?
Is there a GB limit you can copy at one time, or maximum number of files? FYI, my MBP locked up while it was "preparing to copy." It was stuck on just over the 40,000th file (was the large number of files the problem?).

I have a few external drives that i use with Media players and they prefer and work better when formatted to NTFS problem is, MACs can only read and write to FAT32. I have Windows 7 on my macbook ( though my movie collection is on my iMac ) via bootcamp, so that isn't a option. I heard and read about some programs and what not.. but what is the fastest and easiest way to transfer files from my iMac to a NTFS formatted HD? I have movies ( some over 4gb in size ) on my iMac.

Each time I transfer something large from win partition to my OSX partition using Macdrive (files around 6-8 GB) I often get the disc error message "You disc need repair". So I was wondering, is the problem my HD or is it the program macdrive?

I like being able to write to it, but I'd like to prevent OSX from making its invisible files (like ._filename.txt for something I've edited with TextMate) on it because they show up in Windows and are generally of no use. Likewise there's no need to have things like .Trashes there since NTFS-3G can't delete to the trashcan anyway.

Nov 26, 2009I recently backed up some DVD's via Toast using Toast own file format.They were backed up straight to the external HD itself.
I checked that they were all working after the process finished, they were working.
But I think my MBP went into standby whilst the External HD was still connected, and so it was never ejected properly.
Now that I've come to view the files again, they aren't there!!
There's just a Zero KB file, called 'photography', which was the name of the folder they were stored in.
I've tried viewing the folder under windows via VMware, but it says the folder is inaccessible due to being corrupt, or something.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for recovering those files?
The external HD is NTFS, I think I used a patch so that my MBP could read/write files to it.

I use NTFS-3G on OSX, and it's, of course, natively supported by windows. Well, I am having problems with hidden files between them. In OSX, the .DS_Store files, .Trashes and ._*name* files are hidden, but I can see windows' hidden files (RECYCLER, RECYCLE BIN, and System Volume Information). In Windows, I can see .DS_Store, .Trashes and ._*name* files from OSX, but not Windows' hidden files. I am looking for a way to solve this, or not have the files created on the disks.

Dec 8, 2010I have an MBP running OS X 10.6.5 and I have a 500GB external HDD with 2 partitions (NTFS & FAT32), which I mounted to my MBP using FSTAB. Some of the files in the NTFS partitions are greyed-out, and i can't copy/open them on my MBP.
1. Copying the file returns this error:
"one or more items in {file} can't be changed because they are in use"
2. double-clicking the file does nothing
3. Right-click > Open With, returns this error
"Item {file} is used by mac os x and can't be opened"
I've used Terminal to move the file to FAT 32 drive and my MBP Desktop, but steps #1, #2, #3 still don't work. I realized the files that are greyed out are those that I copied from my MBP to the NTFS drive. Existing files in the drive can be opened.

Jun 11, 2010This is a thread for anyone who is experiencing a large slowdown and/or intermittent 10-60 second freezes on Mac OSX Snow Leopard, where the freezes are completely unrelated to anything you're doing, any app you're using, or whether the system is under heavy or little use. I found the issue stems from the use of Mac Fuse (with NTFS-3G installed) and/or Paragon NTFS for Mac OSX, the combination of these 2 apps essentially doing the same job (NTFS write support), conflicts and causes the hard drive to be under constant (although very little) use, which can randomly cause 30-60 second freezes. If anyone is experiencing these same freezes, uninstall either one app or the other, or both, and that might help remedy the situation. EDIT: updated because I didn't specifically mention which macFUSE plugin I had installed....

May 18, 2009I'm new to Mac so I'm sure its user error.
I recently bought a Macbook and I have a external USB hard drive that is formatted NTFS. I copied all of the files off of external HD and pasted them on my Macbook. I slicked the external hard drive and formatted it as FAT32 so I could read & write on both a PC and Mac if I need.
Anyways, once the external hard drive was formatted I tried moving all of the files back to the external but I keep getting and error code once I paste the files on the external drive. It says: "Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred. Error code 0"
Now I'm not sure if the files are locked or what but I need help. I want to move them back to the external drive. It actually copies a few files to the external but nowhere near what all I need. They are just some .doc files that are on there
Hardware :: Cannot See / Access 31 GB Of Files On NTFS - 3G External Drive
Sep 30, 2009I have a 500 gb Seagate FreeAgent external hard drive. I installed NTFS-3g so I could read the NTFS files on it. I could access ALL 31 GB of files on the hard drive before today but now I see only 4 little files that I put on there yesterday (only 2 GB).
When I click on 'Get Info' for the hard drive, it says I have 31.4 GB of files in it but I can only see and access the 4 files that comprise only 2 GB of space. I'm wondering if I deleted something from the hard drive that allowed me to read the 31 GB of files. Perhaps some NTFS-3g file? How I can see and access all 31 GB of files on my hard drive again?

Aug 24, 2014I have some files on a NTFS drive (from a Wiindows 7 PC), the files were hidden. So ... I followed these instructions:
Batch FileXamine [URL] Choose your drive- on the right panel chose “privileges”- chose “preset” –> “public share”(which is chmod 755 for folders and does a chmod 644 on files)- Check “apply to enclosed..”- Apply Permissions To enable hidden files/folders in finder windows:Open FinderOpen the Utilities folderOpen a terminal windowCopy and paste the following line:defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles YESPress returnNow hold ‘alt’ on the keyboard and right click on the Finder iconClick on Relaunch(DID NOT RUN) to revert backdefaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles NO (DID NOT RUN)
After I applied the above I could see the folders and files, although the folders appear as light blue, not the usual blue folders we in OS X, and the files are lighter as well.
When I select 'get info' under 'sharing and permissions' I see 'you can only read', no other options are available.
However, I am able to transfer the files to my desktop, although they remain light blue. Also, when I select 'get info' (on the transferred files on the desktop) under 'sharing and permissions' 'my user name' 'read & right' is enabled. But the folders still appear blue (and the files are much lighter).
I assume if I run the Command: defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles NO
The folders and files will no longer be visible.

OS X :: NTFS And NTFS 3G Volume - Doesn't Wake Up After Goes To Sleep
Aug 8, 2009I have 2 external HDDs that I am sharing with other PCs/Macs over the network. Interestingly, when I look up the info for each volume, only one shows as NTFS-3G whereas the other one shows as just NTFS. And this NTFS volume is causing so much trouble. It doesn't wake up after it goes to sleep, and when I power-cycle it, the data I have put in previously is gone! It doesn't seem to save the data properly. Perhaps because it's just NTFS, not NTFS-3G, I cannot run "Disk Repair" from the Disk Utility app. The button is disabled whereas for other volumes, the button is enabled.
At one time, I had to connect it to a PC to run the disk repair and was able to recover some of the lost data. What the heck is going on? Howcome it is showing as NTFS opposed to NTFS-3G? Both HDDs were formatted from PCs as NTFS. Only difference is that the NTFS is 750GB one, and NTFS-3G one is just 300GB. Does NTFS-3G has size limit?

Aug 8, 2010My Mac partition recently got corrupted to the point of needing a fresh install. I just starting installing my utilities again and downloaded the newest version of NTFS-3G. While doing this, I noticed that there was a "professional" version of NTFS-3G sold by Tuxera (who makes NTFS-3G). I tried to find information comparing the two, but can't; Even on their own website. Does anyone know what the major differences between them are? Is worth the $31 for a normal user (meaning someone who has a BootCamp partition, but doesn't always copy to and from it)?

Apr 27, 2012I bought an external hard drive and formatted it to ntfs. Whenever I copy files from the Mac to the external ntfs drive it automatically converts it to a compressed ntfs file. This is very frustrating because my media player only plays uncompressed files, so I can't play my files on it. Is there anyway to *prevent* my mac from automatically compressing the files when they are copied to a ntfs drive?

Nov 27, 2009I have an external hard drive that I use to watch movies on a Nintendo Wii and some of the movie files are over 7GB, which means when I format the drive to FAT32 I cannot copy the larger files. What are my options for getting around this problem? I have VMware fusion but I cannot easily see my external drive in XP. Is it possible to format the drive in XP and then transfer everything via VMware on XP?

Feb 6, 2009I previously used NTFS-3G to write to my NTFS (Boot Camp) volume. Now, I would like to can it, and just use Apple's internal read-only NTFS stuff.. But the drive refuses to mount, if I disable or remove NTFS-3G.. If I try to mount it manually in Disk Utility, it just says "The disk could not be mounted. Try running First Aid".. I tried that, and it did not work (as expected). I have tried to create an empty file with TOUCH command in the root of my NTFS drive, called "ntfs-readonly". I have also tried to put that file in a directory called ".NTFS-3G" in the root. According to this site, it should tell NTFS-3G to mount that drive with Apples read-only driver. But this failed to work as well - getting the same error as above, when trying to mount it manually.
An interresting thing is, that when NTFS-3G is running, the format of the NTFS drive reads "Windows NT Filesystem (NTFS-3G)" - fine, that sounds logical. BUT.. When NTFS-3G is disabled, the format reads "MS-DOS (FAT32)".. Which, of course, is not true. Is Apples NTFS mounter broken on my system, maybe? If so, how can I fix that? I recall, that I removed NTFS-3G and Mac Fuse manually some time ago, using this site as guidance. That involved deleting the files it was using. I was very careful, but MAYBE I deleted one or more files, that Apples internal NTFS read-only driver needed... Can somebody perhaps assist me in some way? What can I try (apart from re-installing OS X using my Time Machine backup..)..?

Sep 24, 2009I wanted a larger Windows partition so I went into Boot Camp assistant and deleted the Windows partition, made a new one and proceeded to insert my Windows CD. It went through the installation process and i selected the right drive/partition to have a quick NTFS format. After the format, my MacBook restarted and stalled. Needless to say, Boot Camp ran a quick NTFS format on the entire drive.
Now, is there any way to recover any of the files that were quickly formatted? Is there any good software out there that may be able to recover anything?
