Have a Mac Book Pro 5.4 running mac os x 10.6.8. Recently I am unable to open bank statements or other pdf's on the web with preview. Unless I install Adobe Reader all I get is dark black screen. I've tried using Firefox instead of Safari but have the same problem. Somehow a pdf created with Adobe Reader can no longer be opened with preview. I've check and preview is the default app for .pdf files. I tried deleting Adobe Reader for Mac but when I click on the web link preview can't open the document.

After I installed the recent Apple security patch, I can no longer save PDFs when using Safari. And Firefox no longer can open website PDFs.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have started having trouble with PDFs in Safari this week. I can see them on screen, but if I try to save them by Save As command, I get a message saying it cannot be exported as a xxx.pdf. If I try doing it through the Print command, saving it as a PDF, the preview window shows a blank document. Something has fundamentally changed in the last week.

Last year I could add pdf documents together in Preview to make a compilation that was much easier to print in booklet form as it avoided blank pages. Some time this year the behaviour changed, and now when I drag one open pdf onto the window of another, although on screen they look as if they are now one, even if I highlight each page in the sidebar when I press Print only the first one prints, which is a retrograde step IMO.Â
Is there a way to get the old behaviour back? This was a new feature in Snow Leopard and has been immensely useful to me, significantly increasing my productivity. It also used to be able to save the three pdfs as one file, but this too is no longer possible.Â
Is there a setting I can change in order to allow pdf import again? I can't even import files that last year I successfully imported to make new combined files, so I know it is not the pdf settings on the pdf file, it is definitely something that changed in preview itself in Snow Leopard in early 2012.
How can I view PDFs wih Firefox? Just upgraded to Lion and doesn't work any more. What Adobe product/version do I need? (Have Adobe Reader 10.1.3)

It seems like every other version of Firefox is not capable of displaying PDFs. I went to the Firefox website and found many others looking for a solution but no answers. Because people at this site are so much smarter, I thought I would ask here. I tried this, no joy.[URL]..
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been having problems with Safari and Firefox crashing regularly since installing Snow Leopard last week. I have a feeling it might have something to do with Flash, as earlier today Flash itself was crashing in my browser without actually taking the whole app down with it.

I have fixed this problem in previous versions of Safari, where it won't open a pdf file, but I can't remember how I did it. I know I deleted the quicktime file from somewhere.

I launched Mail as I ordinarily do. It opened up, but the header bar was grayed out. Finally I managed to open program via Message/Go To/ Inbox, but no messages appeared in any of my mailboxes (even though I had several still in there from today). Nothing is happening, I even can't quit teh mail program.

After installing snow leopard, Firefox refuses to display the font Trebuchet MS.
Am I the only one?
Since I installed Snow Leopard I have an annoying bug when I have Growl and Firefox installed. When I start up Firefox, the windows isn't on focus (window is kind of in the background). On Leopard I started Firefox and immeditatly I could press cmd+L to write the homepages. With SL I need to click first into the Firefox window because it wasn't on focus after starting up. This weird behaviour only appears when I have Growl installed, if i deactivate Growl, Firefox starts on focus, but since I need Firefox AND Growl, this annoys me a lot..
Could anybody of you who also uses SL, Firefox and Growl test if the Firefox window is on focus after starting the app, ? I tried it on 3 different Macs and all of them have the same bug. :-( I already wrote to the Growl and the Firefox team, but until now both of them say it's the other apps fault...
I can't access Gmail on my Macbook or iMac. They both are connected wirelessly and I have tried Firefox and Safari. Right now it's only Gmail that I can't access but sometimes it's the whole Google domain. I've got the correct DNS settings for my ISP as well as running Safari in 64-bit mode. My Windows PC (on the same router as the Macs) connects to the Google domain fine.

Lately I have been unable to open PDFs from the internet. When I click it sends me to a blank internet tab. Sometimes I am able to control click and have the option to save the file in my downloads, then have to go back into finder to open the file. This is also the case when opening PDFs from emails. However there are some files on the internet that will not allow me that option. I have tried this in firefox, safari, and chrome. All are the same.Everything worked just fine until about 3 days ago.
View 2 Replies View RelatedInstalled Snow Leopard on Friday, and I'm only having one problem: Firefox is ignoring the scroll wheel on my Logitech LX3 Optical Mouse. The OS and all other apps seem to be fine. I followed a tip on [URL] to reinstall the Logitech Control Center, but it didn't fix the problem. I plugged in my Mighty Mouse, but it won't scroll either. I can scroll inside a textarea, but not the main Firefox window. Scrolling worked fine before the Snow Leopard upgrade.
MacOS X 10.6.1 | Firefox 3.5.3
Since upgrading to Snow Leopard (SL). I have noticed a painfully slow access to sites when using Firefox and Safari. Pages used to load almost instantaneous with Leopard. Now when using either Firefox or Safari on SL, It's taking an average of 8-10 seconds to load a page in my web browser. Feels like I'm on dialup. I have the fastest internet service you can get (Roadrunner Turbo Plus), but for some unknown reason my internet page access is painfully slow. I'm really thinking of using Time Machine to set my Mac back to Leopard, but I really don't want too. I figured I'd wait a few days to see if this problem surfaces, and perhaps a solution can be found.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI loved the speed improvements Snow Leopard gave to my computer, but I knew that I would have to do a clean install sooner or later. Now, Safari and Firefox are crashing frequently (multiple times a day!) and everything is slowing down again. I'm hoping a reinstall of the operating system will fix that. However, I used up all 5 installs on my Family Pack. Can I reinstall Snow Leopard with that disc, even though all 5 installs have been used? Do I need to buy another copy? Can the Genius Bar do the clean reinstall for me while my computer is there for other repairs?
