a friend recently gave me a g5 power mac that had some issues, and the failure was described as intermittant. The machine supposedly would work properly when booted and start freezing up after time, but if turned on the next day it would work properly for some time. I assumed it was an overheating issue, but apperently there is more to the picture. I have tried booting the machine quite a few times and the display always reads no signal. The machine sounds as if it were booting normally, but there is not output. At first I assumed it was my display cable, which was a DVI-D single link, however the DVI-D dual link cable leads to the same result. Is it nessicary to have a DVI-I cable? None of the error LEDs light up on the motherboard. After doing some hunting I haven't found anyone with the same issue, but I am wondering if I should assume the graphics card is dead. What steps do I need to take to isolate a graphics card failure in a power mac g5?

Trying to download Mavericks, the download stops every time at 1.03GB, and clicking retry doesn't start it.
I get the message "The application you tried to download could not be downloaded. Check your internet connection and try again."But if I click Cancel, and then restart the download, it works perfectly again up until 1.03GB.
So I'm a little unconvinced that it's a problem with my internet connection, considering I have full access to the web and clicking retry shows it working and connecting.Â
G4 733 D/A , 10.4.11. This morning there was a few second power failure according to my wife. Ther G4 shut down from the power failure. I didn't have "restart after power failure" selected in the Energy Saver prefs. I restarted the G4 when zi got home and after I was done with it, selected SLEEP from the menu. The G4 wouldn't respond to sleep. I logged out and tried SLEEP from another user acc't and from the login screen. I then went into the Energy Saver prefs, made sure everything was as I wanted ( 5 min display sleep, 10 min HD sleep, and "put disk to sleep whenever possible". I then rebooted and sleep still wouldn't function.

why i have to unplug the power cable from the back of my imac after every power failure at my home to get the imac to boot up. I've tried resetting the surge protecter and unplugging there. However, the only option is to unplug the cord from the back of the monitor/imac before it will boot up.Â

I have just replaced the hard drive in my iMac due to buying it second hand with a faulty hard drive. (little to my knowledge)
When i reset the computer to factory settings and cleared the original hard drive and tried to install Mavericks it would always stop downloading at 1.02gb and say calculating. After clearing caches and preferences rebooting and trying again the same thing would happen every time. Now I have had a new HD installed into the iMac and the same issue is happening. What could be causing this? I have been on the phone numerous times with Apple Support and no one seems to have any clue why this would be happening. I have also installed all the updates available for this computer. Â

Anyway, I went to check the progress of my downloads, and the iMac was off. I pushed the power button and nothing happened. No fan noise, HDD noise, nothing. Suddenly, yesterday, I get a message from Firefox (the browser I usually use), telling me that my Flash Player had been disabled because I did not have the most up-to-date version of Adobe Flash Player. When I investigated, I found out that the newest version was NOT compatible with my computer. So I tried reinstalling the most recent version of Adobe Flash Player that IS compatible and have had no success. When I go in to System Preferences and click on the Adobe Flash Player pane (under other), I get a message reading "could not load Adobe Flash Player." Someone out there must know how to handle this. I'm not in a position to purchase a new computer, and I desperately need Flash Player for some of the websites I use quite often.

My IMac crashes sometimes very suddenly, like in a power failure. It doesn't force quit or shut down, it just goes like somebody pulled the plug. It's usually possible to start it up again after 30minutes or an hour. The plug and lead seem to be fine. I tested it on another mac. The obvious suspicion would be overheating, but how can that be caused so suddenly (and how can I fix it)? It's an IMac Intel core duo, 20", 2 ghz, 2gb ram from 2006. I have a 2011 MacBook Pro 15 inch, and the Messages application has been installed and functioning well for the past year. A few hours ago, my MacBook ran out of battery and died on me. This caused a number of applications to function incorrectly, however, after a restart all of the applications EXCEPT Messages work correctly. Now whenever I start up the messages app and try to send a message to one of my contacts, their name appears in red and I receive a message that says "###-###-#### is not registered with iMessage." This occurs even though the contacts DO have iMessage and were working in the past. None of the contacts work currently.Â
I tried signing out of Messages, restarting my computer, restarting iMessage from my phone, deleting my plist file, but none of these seem to alleviate the issue.

While installing windows 7 via bootcamp tonight, I suffered a power failure a minute or two into installation. Upon reboot, I have only a black screen with flashing curse. I have attempted to reboot in safe mode, recovery mode and diagnostic mode, but I think the machine is not recognizing the keyboard.

I have a March 2011 13" MacBook Pro. Up until now I have had no problems with the laptop. At the start of this week the charger started to stop working once the battery reached 100%. Up to 99% it charges and the amber light on the charger is illuminated, at 100% the light goes off and the 'more info' screen shows now current flowing through. I then have to wait until the battery dies until it can be recharged. Battery has done 218 cycles.

I'm going to be setting up a dedicated server on a LAN soon. It's only going to be accessed by a handful of computers, all of which will be controlled by the client. Based on cost and complexity of other options, we've decided on a normal Mini, rather than a Mini Server or an Xserve.
The one feature that concerns us, which is included with the Xserve but not on either Mini, is the redundant power supply. We would like to avoid downtime in the event of a power supply failure. Are there any third party options to this?
(A battery backup with a limited run time would not be sufficient.)
Macbook Pro won't boot. Symptoms preceding failure included failure to open Firefox. When trying to cold boot I can get as far as the start-up sound, the Apple logo, and the spinning whieel (spins for a bit but not for very long) and then major failure. Not running Liom.

On a day-to-day basis I run: Adobe PS, INDD, and AI, Microsoft Entourage, Firefox and iTunes. Just recently, after an upgrade to Leopard, I added Things and Simplify Media to the list.The problem that happens before (on Tiger) and now (on Leopard) is command+tab switching stops functioning and Expose hot corners and shortcuts stop working.
I'm pretty sure this isn't a Finder crash because before, on Tiger, I could quit+restart Firefox and everything would be back to normal. Almost as if some shortcut had causes the system to act differently or there was some app dissonance?
But now, with Leopard, nothing I quit will cause these two features to act properly until I do a restart. Both features (command+tab switching and expose) are very necessary for my work flow. I have checked SysPref to make sure keyboard shortcuts are default and Univeral Access to make sure assisted devices is turned off.
1. Lion's (10.7.3) user interface becomes nonresponsive/'freezes': trackpad cursor moves, keyboard can be used for typing, BUT gestures stop working and "Dock" is not responding (it is hidden automatically).Â
2. Tere are frequent "nfs server localhost:/5pBJvp-jULTJrbfF3Hpvc5: not responding nfs server localhost:/5pBJvp-jULTJrbfF3Hpvc5: is alive again" error messages in Terminal while I am running 'find' command.
These error messages seem to be correlated witth the user interface 'freezes'.Â

It powers down constantly and I was advised to check the box that restarts it automatically after power failure in order begin to ascertain what the problem is.
I cannot find the darned box to check!
I looked in the "energy saver" category where my computer tells me the box is, but there's no option anywhere to be seen.
Wi-Fi connection often stops after lion has been asleep. Other devices have no such problem. All was fine until this week. Lion is barely 3 months old. It's not a drag to reconnect, but should I have to?

After 10.7.4, the computer indicated I had to reboot. after the reboot, I hear the chimes, then only a gray screen. Nothing else. My Hard drive has become corrupted and is going to need reformat. I have managed to mount the iMac as a firewire drive on my Macbook and pulled off quite a bit of data. The repair utility wont fix the drive so I have no choice other than to reformat. Â
