I recently obtained a Mac mini to use with my Sony LCD projection television (model number KDF-E55A20). To connect the two, I used a standard DVI to HDMI conversion cable. The picture looks great. I have connected the standard audio output of the mini to the audio portion of the HDMI port (#6) on the television using a cable that changes from the audio-out to RCA (red and white) cables. (I'm sorry I don't know what the name of this sort of cable is, but I know it is very standard).
The problem: I get no sound! To troubleshoot I connected my Powerbook G4 to the same HDMI port (using the provided adapter to connect to the same DVI to HDMI cable). Once I plug in the same audio cable as I tried to use with my mini, I get both picture and sound. It seems that the television inactivates the audio input component of the HDMI port if it picks up what it thinks is an HDMI input (since it is supposed to carry audio). But it is only getting DVI! So the problem is not with the mini as it produces audio normally. There's a setting (hopefully not hard-wired) with the Sony to inactivate the audio-in on HDMI input.

I currently use an LCD TV to play movies from my Macbook Pro via the MiniDVI - HDMI cable. At the moment I just connect everything up and then use the Mirror Display in the arrangement settings. So my laptop screen is the same as my LCD TV screen. What I want to be able to do though is watch the movie on the LCD TV and also use the laptop to go on the internet, is this possible?

I have a MacBook Air that i hdmi-connected to Samsung tv but the image on the tv is not sized correctly, meaning the image frame on the screen is smaller that the full sized tv screen. It's not evenly shrunk around the screen. It's about 2 inches on the left and 3 inches on the right, and 1 inch from top and bottom.

If I use a minidisplay port to hdmi adaptor to connect to the monitor, will the sound be able to be played out of the speakers of the Air? I would like to connect my Macbook Pro to my hometheatre via HDMI. Normally no problem with the mini display port and an HDMI adapter, but the port is already used for the 27" cinema display... Is there another adapter available that let`s me connect both, an HDMI device and the cinema display to my Macbook? I only care about the sound - I want to get digital sound to my receiver. (I am not interested in the solution via airport express and then connect via analogue audio cable - I am looking to get a digital sound signal all the way through...) about Macobook Pro: mid 2010, 17", Processor 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5, Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512 MB) Â

I have a Late 2011 MBP, just recently I also go an Xbox and wanted to hook it up to my external display that I have been using for a long time with no issues. I went and bought this: URL....to be able to easily switch between the two inputs. The xbox works fine, however when I view my Macs input the screen flickers a static image very frequently.Â
I know what you're thinking, it's probably an issue with either a cable, or the device. But when I boot into Windows via Bootcamp with the same exact setup, there is no flicker at all. The display is a dell s2440L, the HDMI adapter is a rocket fish.Â
Here are the troubleshooting steps I have tried:Â Resetting PRAM/SMCChanging out HDMI cables on both the Splitter output, and the inputs (I tried 3 different cables on both the inputs, and outputs.)Downgrading OSX to 10.7 (And then went back to 10.9)Lowering the resolution on the monitor (Lower resolutions flicker just as much, if not more.)Resetting the splitter by unplugging the HDMI cord powering it and plugging it back in.and of course, plugging my computer into the splitter input that the Xbox works fine on, as well as taking the xbox one out so the computer is the only input on the splitter.Â
Like I said, the Xbox works fine, and even the computer works fine in Windows, but whenever I boot into OSX my screen flickers with this static. I should add, the display works fine when not connected to the splitter on OSX.

I bought a MBA 13" last month and now I'm trying to connect an external monitor through a Mini Display Port-to-HDMI adapter and most of the times the display shows a message "No signal detected"...
I've tried all the possible combinations between the MAC and the Monitor but it would seem a random matter.

Got 2011 Mac mini and connected via HDMI to 15 months old Samsung 46 inch LED TV using 1080p and 50Hz. From start (dec 2011) I have had the problem that occationally (>50% of the times) the TV starts to flicker heavily. It is "war of the ants = cannot see anything" on the TV for like 3 seconds and then I can see the desktop clearly for around 3 seconds an then it is back to the flicker.screen. It keeps on like that until I shut-down and restart the Mac mini. Sometime restart works an sometime it does not. Anyone with similar problems that know what to do?

I have a MacBook Air (11.6") and a Philips 234EL monitor whose native resolution is 1920 x 1080.
However, when I connect the monitor to the laptop with an Apple HDMI cable and a Moshi Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, the maximum resolution I can get is 1600 x 900.

I have the latest release of the 13 Macbook Pro. I have searched endlessly on the internet on ways to connect my macbook to an rca inlet on a television but find the information to be outdated or all about hdmi. I would like to run a cable(s) from my mini display port to the rca jack on my television. I only have one HD compatible television so I would like to have a more flexible solution for the rest of the aging televisions in my domicile.

I have had a great macbook for about a year now and decided I want to attach it to my television. So I went to the store and bought this (special mac) cable that has a (I think) mini DVI connection in the computer that leads to a super video (SV) opening. Then I also bought a cable that starts with an SV (which goes into the mac cable) and ends in a scart which goes inside the TV. To the scart and SV cable there is also an audio cable attached which goes into the computer.
When I turn on the TV, I get the sound but nothing to see.. My computer doesn't detect an external display. I've tried everything: see if the cables are in well, put them in different in- and outputs, turn both the television as the computer on and off, mess with the computer's system preferences and the television's preferences.. And I've also looked on forums and I've just gone clueless!

I have a Macbook Aluminum and want to use my LCD TV as a monitor. I went to the Apple sotre yesterday and the guy said no problem just hook these up (I know it's video only not audio). So he gave me Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter and the Belkin DVI to HDMI cable. Plugged it in set the TV to the HDMI an all I'm getting is my background on the TV. When I go to any other program like itunes, safari, anything nothing shows up.

I use a NAS for backups and external storage. At some time in the past week, my backup operations stopped working, and I think I have tracked down the source of the problem. Somehow, an "extension" got added to the disk name (I did not do this and I am not sure how it happened). The disk name (Cosmos) has not changed, but when right click and choose "get info", in the "Name and Extension" section, the disk shows up as Cosmos-1. Unfortunately, the name is greyed out and I can't change it.Does anybody know how I can remove the -1 extension and change the name back to Cosmos so that my backups see the disk again?

I just formatted my MBP and when I resynchronised Mail with my Yahoo a/c, the way Mail appears is a bit different from how I had it. I have OSX 10.7.3 and Mail 5.2.Â
I am unable to:
1. Get the headers of 'To, From, Flag, Size, Date' etc that would appear above my mails. Now I just see all my mails in a bunch, one above the other, without any header to them (I thought this was a simple case of changing some 'View' menu item, but I am unable to figure it out.Â
2. In Mail Preferences, it continues to show 'Microsoft Outlook.app' as default mail reader even if i change it to Mail.app. It reverts back to Outlook every time i reopen the Preferences window.
