I have a 13" MBP and just bought a new 23" external monitor connected via mini DVI to HDMI adapter.The monitor is recognized fine, but there is extreme jitter on the screen - basically very annonying and unusable.

I'm trying to plug my new mac mini into my Dell flat screen monitor. It doesn't seem to fit my HDMI to VGA cable so I'm assuming that my cable is in fact a DVI? The cable is actually a little too big for the VGA adapter and no spots for the screws.

When I plug in the screen is zoomed to close and I can not view the entire screen. I can see one application that I have open, which is iMovie but can not see the top menu or my icons at the bottom. How can I adjust the settings seeing how I can not access the menu bar or anything else for that matter. It also appears to be showing a second screen, maybe not my desktop because the background is different. I'm running on OS X Lion.
I'm trying to finish an end of the year slide show for my kindergartner that I need completed today, I was five minutes away from finalizing then my two year old threw his monster truck at my screen!

I just purchased a 13" MacBook Pro. When I attempt to use a TV as an external display, I get a flickering blue screen on my MacBook, and absolutely NOTHING on the television. Despite its description, I hooked it up to my receiver and it does NOT pass audio through. I've been hunting around and all I've found so far is one Youtube video of a guy with an adapter that worked (in the sound section of the system preferences, it shows another option for output that I didn't have), but not what adapter it was.
I'm surprised that the Mac Mini comes with an HDMI-DVI adapter and not a MiniDisplayPort-DVI adapter. The latter would allow you to use monitors that support all resolutions the Mini can produce, whereas the former is limited to 1920-by-1200. Even if you use a monitor within the bounds of 1920-by-1200 resolution, you would need to get a MDP-DVI adapter to use a TV at the same time.
The ONLY logical reason that exists for Apple to do this is that they will make more money this way.
More people will have to buy the MDP-DVI adapter than the other way around. If people merely want to use a TV, they will have to buy an HDMI cable AND a MDP-DVI adapter, leaving the current adapter sitting in a drawer, whereas if Apple had supplied a MDP-DVI adapter, the person would probably just buy an HDMI cable, and probably not from Apple.
Just a warning, I bought a Mac Mini (2009) and wanted it to hook it up to my TV. My TV does not have HDMI or DVI inputs so I bought a Mini DVI to Video adapter from Apple.But I could not get it to work, then I googled for it and it seems this adapter does not work with 2009 Mac's since it does not output an analog signal anymore!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just hooked the cable up, and I get the standard Purple Haze in space desktop that I have on my Macbook, but nothing else. No icons, no toolbars, nothing. The only time I was able to get anything to come up on my larger screen was when I went into Preferences, and Desktop and Screensaver. When I click on that, I did get a box to show up on my larger screen, listed as the Secondary Desktop.
How exactly do I get the larger screen to serve as my main screen? When I close up my laptop,the larger screen goes blank. I have no idea what to do, please help!
Another question I have is how the screen will look once I do actually get it to work. The reason why I ask that is because my larger screen is an old 17" Dell, the old 4:3 box kind. I plan on upgrading to a 20" plus HD display in the near future, but cannot at the moment, so the current 17" will have to do.
Anyhow, just curious if the screen is going to be completely wonky looking given the resolution that my Macbook will be feeding it?

I am running Lion OS on a 17 inch unibody Macbook Pro. I have been watching television on my Sony XBR television through my computer using a mini-hdmi to hdmi converter - essentially using my television as a second monitor by using mirror mode. It has been working perfectly until just recently. Now everytime I hook up the mini-hdmi connection, it is changing the resolution of my Macbook Pro screen. It is crushing the picture of the Macbook down and making Safari - the controls as well as the screen image contained therein - really dark. I have tried playing with the display controls-including trying to get my computer to re-detect my television. I am stumped as to WHY this started happening all the sudden.

I have a Late 2011 MBP, just recently I also go an Xbox and wanted to hook it up to my external display that I have been using for a long time with no issues. I went and bought this: URL....to be able to easily switch between the two inputs. The xbox works fine, however when I view my Macs input the screen flickers a static image very frequently.
I know what you're thinking, it's probably an issue with either a cable, or the device. But when I boot into Windows via Bootcamp with the same exact setup, there is no flicker at all. The display is a dell s2440L, the HDMI adapter is a rocket fish.
Here are the troubleshooting steps I have tried: Resetting PRAM/SMCChanging out HDMI cables on both the Splitter output, and the inputs (I tried 3 different cables on both the inputs, and outputs.)Downgrading OSX to 10.7 (And then went back to 10.9)Lowering the resolution on the monitor (Lower resolutions flicker just as much, if not more.)Resetting the splitter by unplugging the HDMI cord powering it and plugging it back in.and of course, plugging my computer into the splitter input that the Xbox works fine on, as well as taking the xbox one out so the computer is the only input on the splitter.
Like I said, the Xbox works fine, and even the computer works fine in Windows, but whenever I boot into OSX my screen flickers with this static. I should add, the display works fine when not connected to the splitter on OSX.

From start (dec 2011) I have had the problem that occationally (>50% of the times) the TV starts to flicker heavily. It is "war of the ants = cannot see anything" on the TV for like 3 seconds and then I can see the desktop clearly for around 3 seconds an then it is back to the flicker.screen. It keeps on like that until I shut-down and restart the Mac mini. Sometime restart works an sometime it does not. Anyone with similar problems that know what to do?

I'm struggling to find the best approach here. Here's what I got:

My wife and I each use a laptop as our regular computer. The Mac Mini we just picked up and are looking to use it as a home server (although it doesn't have Snow Leopard Server). We use a program for our business called Daylite that hosts a database that we share between laptops - this is being hosted on the Mac Mini, which will always be powered on so we each can access it. There are also a couple folders that we would like to share on the Mac Mini. This Mac Mini will also sit next to our HDTV to be used for streaming, HULU Netflix, etc. My problem is that I don't know the best way to configure the Mac Mini on the network. I have a Verizon Actiontec Router and Comcast Internet (Dynamic IP, although it has been the same for some time). My questions are:
1) Does it make a difference if I have the Mac Mini directly plugged into the router via ethernet vs wireless? Right now, when we try and File Share between the Mac Mini and laptops, it takes forever to connect, navigate, save files, especially if I am saving to the Mac Mini, from a laptop using Photoshop or even Word.
2) Do I gain anything from running the cable modem directly to the Mac Mini and the enable Internet Sharing from the two laptops, as opposed to using the router?
3) I transferred 1 gig worth of files from a laptop to the Mac Mini and it literally took an hour. I retried it using a direct connection via eithernet between the two computers and it took 10 minutes. I'm hoping that optimizing my setup will speed up my local network transfers. Yes, no?
4) Can I used a Mini DVI to HDMI adapter from my Mac Mini to my tv? If so, does this also send audio signal? It's an Early 2009 Mac Mini.
I found on eBay a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. Does this work with the MacBook Pro (Mid-2009 13" model)? If so, will my MBP support our 50" Toshiba DLP HDTV? (720p)

I have tried this adapter on two macs at home, a Macbook Pro and an iMac, all latest models, running 10.6.2. Whenever I try putting it to sleep, the Mac wakes up after about 3 seconds.

It's not the cable or the monitor as I have tried with several and get same results. The port works fine with an Apple monitor and no adapter. I've seen several threads on this, but no solutions other than starting up with monitor plugged in which I've done.I updated the OS and it worked fine yesterday, but today not working again.
