OS X V10.7 Lion :: Time Capsule Claims To Be Out Of Space?
Jun 30, 2012
I have 125 GB to back up using Time Machine, using a 500 GB Time Capsule. It tells me there is not enough space on the disk. (But Time Machine is supposed to erase old backups as needed.)

I deleted some files that I don't need in Time Capsule by using "Delete All Backups of ..." inside "Enter Time Machine", but the disk space does not change. It stays the same as before.

I have a MacBook Air and a Time Capsule - both from november 2011.Using Time Machine is givning me som problems. It works fine for some days, an is backing up as planned. But at least 5 times since I got the Time Capsule, Time Machine is asking to make a full Backup, and when I look in Time Machine, it says that there is no "old backup". It has been runing since november 2011.When I start a new backup, as it ask for, it takes at least 24 hours to finish - some times even longer. Is this normal? If not, what do I do?

One Time Capsule at home
One Time Capsule in vacation home
MBP backs up everything on internal hard drive to Time Capsule at home, where we live during summer and spring. When moving to vacation home in fall and winter, MBP backs up everything to Time Capsule in vacation home.
During the 6 months at each residence, the backups work great to the Time Capsule at that particular house. However, after some time (maybe a week?), Time Machine displays an error in Notification Center: "Time Machine can't complete backup to Home Time Capsule" (when in vacation home) or "Time Machine can't complete backup to Vacation Time Capsule" (when at home).
It's obvious that this occurs because Time Machine was set to back up to 2 Time Capsules and expects both of them to be reachable. Is there a way to suppress these Time Machine errors for the time that we're away from one of the Time Capsules?

I have updated to 10.7.4, and now Time Machine does not work on my Time Capsule. I have erased all backups using the Airport Utility. When I try to run Time Machine, the disk is mounted, files are calculated, backup starts, then stops, and no backup is done. Also, no error messages.

I have an older tme capsule and I'd like to use it as just a 1-tb extenal hard drive with my Mac Pro. I messed around with the Time Capsule configuration and finally have a green light, yay! BUT, I was hoping it would show up on my desktop like the other drives. The Time Capsule: Is connected directly to my Mac Pro via a cat 5 cable. It is showing a solid green light. I have wifi turned off. I have a time machine set up with a western digital 2TB external drive. I see it show up in my finder side bar as a shared device. When I right click it the TC icon in the side menu and select open, the window shpw "not connected" at the top. (Even thought the light is green)

I'm using a Macbook Pro running OSX Lion. I use the Macbook to work from both home and office.Because I live very far from office, I usually stay in the city with my gf which means I might not go home for 7-10 days at a time.I do have a time capsule at home, everything works fine whenever I go there, backup is done seemlessly, catching up to whatever state the macbook is.Because I can be without backing up for days and sometime weeks, I'm considering getting another Time Capsule that I would setup at work.
Is it possible to backup a single Mac to multiple independant Time Capsule (or NAS ). My understanding is that Time Machine probably create indexes of what changed vs. what didn't so I am not convince it would correctly update two Time Capsule which might be at very different levels. If not possible I guess I'll have to look into another parallel backup scheme like Acronis or else (didn't really look into that yet)

This morning my iMac acted up so I used Onyx to find out what's wrong and it said it needs to repair the disk.
I then restarted, pressed cmd + R and tried to repair it but it said that I needed to back up files and would have to format the drive. Ok, good thing I just backed up my computer before the imac acted up, so I formatted the drive sing Disk Utility and then proceeded to reinstall OS X Lion.
Right now, it is still downloading stuff and have at least 5 hrs to go.
My question is, what would be the next best course of action to take:
Restore from latest TM backup? (will this be a good idea since the HD failed and cause the HD to fail again?) As much as possible, I want everything as it was before the crash. Or would it be better to start from scratch and reinstall everything? The only impt thing I want restored are my photos ( only backed up with TM).

My Time Capsule backups are taking too long. Time Machine says it is indexing. However, I have had my Time Machine configured since I installed Lion last year and it has been making automatic backups every hour since. Why is it 'indexing' now, and why is it taking so long?

After some issues to get connet to the Time Capsule (which I use both to store media data and backup) the Time Mashine cannot run but return a message that the sparse bundle is already in use. In the Backup folder there is a file 2012-05-12-194014.inProgress. Can I just delete this - and move on?

Since July 27th 2011 my time capsule (connecte via ethernet cable) did not back up any iMovie, Final Cut Pro nor iTunes files. But it did back up any other files. I did not exclude any of the mentioned files from backing up.
Maybe I installed around July 2011 an update of Mac OS, I am not sure. I have not been able to find any answer to this problem in any forum.I used disk utility to verify and repair the time capsule but it shows no problems. When I enter time machine everything greys out when I go inside the finder window to the iMovie or iTunes filkes.

I recently purchsed and set up an Iomega Storcenter ix4-200d NAS with Time Machine support. The NAS has 8 TB storage total, with ~4.6 TB available.I have TIme Machine support turned on in the Storcenter, assigned to a folder called "Time-Machine." In my OSX Time Machine preferences, I select the "Time-Machine" folder on my NAS as the back-up disk, and my Mac connects to it just fine. The challenge is Time Machine returns an error saying there isn't enough space on the backup disk to complete the backup. For some reason, Time Machine is only recognizing 536.36 GB of space available on the backup disk, even though there are ~4.6 TB available.I tried manually moving my iTunes media folder (~700 GB) to the "Time-Machine" folder on my NAS to see if the Iomega NAS was arbitrarily setting a max size to a Time Machine folder.I was able to manually move just under 1 TB of data to the same "Time-Machine" folder that Time Machine says only has 536.36 GB of space.
I tried deleting the Time-Machine store on my NAS, turning Time Machine support off, then turning it back off and creating a new "Time-Machine" folder.I did this several times and still get the same behavior.I even tried running Time Machine piecemeal, excluding larger folders at first and running a back-up, to see if maybe Time Machine wasn't liking that large of an initial backup. This worked, and then I gradually removed some exclusions and ran back-ups again, so each back-up size was never more than 200 GBs or so. However, after several back-ups, I received the same error message saying there wasn't enough space on the backup disk when the total sparsbundle size reached 536.36 GBs.Since I can manually move more than 536.36 GB of data to the backup disk, I'm guessing it must be something with Time Machine not recognizing the full space available on the NAS.

I am planning on purchasing a mac mini solely for the purpose of playing music - it will be hooked up to a hi-fi amplifier and speakers. All of the music that will be on the computer will be in lossless format, which is very large. I will need a lot (320+ GB?) of storage.
I'm wondering if I can cut costs by buying an old 80 GB mini and augmenting its hard drive with a time capsule. I was planning on buying a time capsule anyway, so I could save something like $300. My questions are: would I be able to stream music from the time capsule to the mac mini? Would I be able to import music from itunes directly onto the time capsule? If I hook the mini up to the time capsule via USB, can it serve as a hard-drive, even if my internet is down? Is it going to be much more worth my time to buck up and buy a new 320 GB mini?

I recently upgraded to OS 10.7 and now can't find my Time Capsule under devices to access individual files stored on it. I've bought a 1 TB iomega ego mac edition II external fire wire drive. Once connected it asked whether i want to create a password and whether i want my data encrypted, to which i answered yes. Then a time machine backup started and failed after backing up 5.25 GB out of 39 GB of my data with the following error: "The backup disk ran out of space unexpectedly. Time Machine will try to make more space available by removing expired backups during the next scheduled backup". When i look at time machine it shows there is 994.29 GB available on iomega ego drive. The drive then went into: "Encrypting Backup Disk" message and it takes forever.

I have the MacBook Pro 2010 13" and recently I've noticed my disc space is slowly decreasing with use.
Im not downloading files or anything, but today I lost around 600 MB of space, I just kept opening my Finder to discover less and less disc space each time.
Is this normal or do I have a problem, this is the first time I've noticed it in the month and a half I've owned the machine.

Parallels Desktop 5.0 was released Wednesday, with its developer claiming the latest virtualization software runs 64-bit Windows 7 22 percent faster than its nearest competitor on a MacBook Pro. Parallels said that the tests, conducted by Crimson Consulting Group, also found that the new Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac is up to 300 percent faster for virtual machine operations than its predecessor. In addition, 3Dmark 2006 Professional test scores perform up to 7 times better for 3D and graphics performance. "As the OS battles rage between Microsoft, Apple and Linux, we provide a completely customizable solution that enables people to use the applications they need with the fastest performance available, regardless of the operating system," said Serguei Beloussov, CEO of Parallels. "Parallels continues to build on its proven track record of innovation, responding to our customers by providing the fastest, smartest and most powerful Windows-on-Mac experience available."
The latest version of Parallels Desktop features more than 70 new features, including a new "Crystal view" mode, which can make Windows completely disappear. The new software also allows users to enable Apple multitouch trackpad gestures -- such as pinch, swipe, and rotate -- within Windows. Features within the new Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac include: Full support for Aero in Windows Vista and 7 through Windows WDDM driver, including Aero Flip 3D. Virtual machine size automatically optimized for best performance with Parallels Compressor. Improved performance for Linux guest OS from KVM paravirtualization. A more Mac-like experience in Windows applications through Apple trackpad gestures technology, horizontal scrolling and the application of full-screen active corners and curl page effect. Copy and paste fidelity for formatted text and complete layouts including images, even between Windows and Linux guest OSes. Freedom and flexibility to run Windows and Mac applications across multiple monitors.
Seven times better graphics performance for games and 3D applications than the previous version with Direct X 9Ex with Shader Model 3 and OpenGL 2.1 support. Superior graphics performance for Linux guests through OpenGL 2.1 support. Full hardware resources can be utilized with support for 8 virtual CPUs, 64-bit Windows and Snow Leopard Server 64-bit. Easily move PCs (including Windows 7) and third-party virtual machines to the Mac with the enhanced Parallels Transporter. Parallels is also offering users a free trial of the software, which the company has touted as faster, smarter and more powerful. The software is available now in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish, and localized versions in Chinese, Czech, Hungarian, Japanese, Polish and Russian are expected in the coming weeks. At $79.99, Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac includes $175 worth of additional software: Parallels Internet Security 2009 by Kaspersky with a one-year subscription, Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0, and Acronis True Image Home 2010.

I have an external 500gb drive plugged into my brand new Time Capsule. The 500gb drive basically stores my entire library of music and my iTunes points to this external drive.
Is it possible to have time machine backup all information on the 500gb drive to the time capsule, so encase the external drive takes a dump, I don't loose my entire music library? Maybe time machine is already doing this, I am not sure.

I will be getting my new Macbook Pro in the near future and am very interested in using Time Machine to wireless back up my data to an external hard drive. I know I can use Time Capsule to do this, but also hear a mention of just getting an Airport Extreme and my own ext. hd. My question is that I have Verizon FIOS Internet and my modem also functions as a wireless router. How would the Time Capsule/Airport Extreme work with this? Is it possible? I do not believe that the Verizon router supports wireless N, and I would like to take advantage of the faster speeds. If I were to connect a Airport Extreme to the wireless router, would I then have 2 routers to choose from and just use the Airport Extreme to use the wireless N? I'm very confused as to how I could make this work.

As my 160N series Linksys router neither has gigabit ports, usb connector or dual band networking, I am looking for a replacement.
When it comes to Apple routers I am looking at 2 options - either the base station with an external USB drive or get a 1TB capsule with the buildt in drive and worries regarding reliability.
What I like about the Time Capsule is that it is neat to have all in one, takes up less space and only has 1 plug to attach, while Iike the idea that I can just connect a bigger drive later on the base station solution.
1. Will the connected USB drive function just like the internal drive in the Time Capsule for Time Machine use?
2. Will everything be transparent to Snow Leopard?
3. In case of both units with an attached USB drive - can I control who actually can see the drive and access it?
4. Do they support this DNLA thing so that e.g . PS3 can access an attached drive??
