OS X V10.7 Lion :: Sharing Folder Under System Preferences Is Frozen?

Mar 14, 2012

I have a Mac Book Air running 10.7.3. The Sharing Folder under system preferences is frozen. The padlock is unlocked. How do I unfreeze the sharing folder so that I can click on any item in this folder? The sharing folder freezes every time I open it - so you cannot select anything in the sharing folder?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Sharing System Preferences Freezes Entire System

Jul 3, 2012

I recently took the plunge and installed Lion after being content with Snow Leopard....well now I have quite a few issues. When I open system preferences for some reason it automatically opens to Network...why I'm not sure. When I click show all, then click sharing, I can't make any changes in the Sharing preferences without my entire system locking up. I can't force quit or anything. I can still use the mouse but all I have is the rainbow wheel!

I have searched and searched and haven't been able to fix it. I have tried booting into the Guest account and the same problem happens there. I have trashed all the plist files everyone says to try. I have tried repairing permissions etc. I feel like I have tried everything. Is there anything else that I can do without have to do a clean re-install. I'm hearing if I do this that I won't be able to migrate my files from by backups due to permission problems?

I also took a look at my system log and it is full of this!
Jul 3 22:24:26 jessica-imac com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.Kerberos.digest-service[1307]): Exited with code: 1
Jul 3 22:24:26 jessica-imac com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.Kerberos.digest-service): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds .....

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Printer Sharing In System Preferences Will Not Stay Checked

Mar 20, 2012

I have two printers connected to my iMac (10.7.3) and I am trying to enable printer sharing for my MacBook Air to utilize the iMac's printers.  On the iMac, I go to System Prefrences > Sharing and check Printer Sharing and I ensure that both printers are being shared.  Everything is checked, but the second I close the System Prefrences window, the printer sharing stops working.  I go back into System Prefrences and the Printer Sharing box is unchecked.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Can't Erase A Folder On File Sharing Panel

Apr 20, 2012

Recently, I Create a some days account for a visiting son on my MacBook Pro, and after erased that account, I noticed his former previous Public Folder appeard on File Sharing, on Sharing panel, but with a finder icon. As I tried to erased it, it said I cannot access to that folder because it doesn't exist or something. I create that account again, and went back to File Sharing -folder icon was as usual- click on the (–) buttom and be asked "Are you sure you want to stop sharing the folder "Son's Public Folder"; answered "yes" but nothing happens. Tried the same with my own folder and happens exactly the same.

notice that I can add some other folder, and erase it too, but not those two. Restore premissions and have the newest Software Update's.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: System Preferences Keeps Freezing?

May 13, 2012

Last night I attempted to change my desktop picture and thought I'd scroll through my own photos to choose one. When I got one in particular, it obviously changed the picture, then I couldn't change it back again. All I got was the spinning beach ball. After a force quit, I went back, started up System Prefs and immediately the ball started spinning again. Tried this a couple more times - same result. I shut down the Mac and started up again this morning - still the same. System Prefs always opens on the 'Desktop/Screen Saver' option and the ball appears and spins, neccessitating the 'force quit' option again. (running 10.7.4)

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Set System Preferences Globally?

Jun 6, 2012

I am trying to change preferences for all users who log into a system. For example, I want the screen saver to timeout at 10 minutes and require a password immediately after the screensaver starts. When a new user is logged in, this defaults back to 15 minutes and not to require a password after the screensaver is active.

I have modified the default user 'profile' but the settings do not stick for new users. How can I force settings in System Preferences to apply to all accounts, current and future? These systems are in an enterprise environment, but since they account for 0.001% of our entire system inventory, we do not run Open Directory and they will not be managed via AD. I would like to configure them as locally (and simply, most technicians here have no experience with OSX) as possible.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: System Preferences Won't Launch

Jun 23, 2012

2011 Core i7 iMac with Lion. Noticed yesterday that system prefs won't launch. No spinning beachball, does absolutely nothing including no launch animation. tried resetting the SMC, followed by booting into disk utilities and doing repair permissions. Then did a reinstall of Lion, again from the disk utilities boot. Not sure if I was at 10.7.3 or 10.7.4 before all this, but reinstall got me back to 10.7.3, updated to 10.7.4, problem persists with both.

I just noticed this is only with the main admin account. There is one secondary account on the computer that my kids use - if I switch to it I am able to access system prefs.

Mac Mini :: Why Doesn't "DVD Or CD Sharing" Show Up Inside Sharing Preferences

Apr 18, 2012

I've got a mac mini that i got less than 2 mos ago, and i'm trying to install ProTools onto my machine from a DVD.  When i was initially configuring my machine, i checked out the Remote Disc feature, but over my lame wifi connection, things were taking way too long, and I dropped it. Now, when trying to setup this Pro Tools install, I seem to have lost the ability to use the DVD/CD sharing options in my System Preferences.  The option just isn't there anymore.  I have the option on my Snow Leopard MBP, and it's enabled there, and the two machines are connected on a computer-to-computer wireless connection.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: System Preferences Quit Unexpectedly

Apr 29, 2012

This issue started happening a couple of days ago on my MacBook Pro running 10.7.3. Rather strange because its isolated to a single user account. I've attempted trashing the system preferences' preference file located in my User's preference folder. The issue arrose when I downloaded a .dmg pack from OSX Daily containg 200+ screen savers and an Apple II simulator App. I have backups of the data on this computer (not a Time Machine) so I'm fine with restoring the operating system and wiping the computer - which is actually somthing I've been considering doing for a while - however, I'd like to attempt to fix the issue since its something I'm interested in.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Restore Resolution Choices In Display In System Preferences

May 11, 2012

Today I did my normal software update as usual only to find out the Lion update left me with only two choices of screen resolution, 1920x1200(too big) and 960x600(too small), on my 24" iMac. The same update did not affect my Pro. As I need a 1024x768 screen resolution on my iMac, how can I restore those screen resolution settings? I called AppleCare, and they sent me an additional update that I downloaded and installed but it did not change anything. My iMac is right at 5 years old. Do these things ever get to the point that updates create such problems? Everything was working perfectly until this happened. Plus they said there's no way to go back(that is, return to the same point that I was before the update).
