My system preferences are frozen
Info:MacBook Air
I have a Mac Book Air running 10.7.3. The Sharing Folder under system preferences is frozen. The padlock is unlocked. How do I unfreeze the sharing folder so that I can click on any item in this folder? The sharing folder freezes every time I open it - so you cannot select anything in the sharing folder.

I'm using Lion 10.7.3 and I can't running system preferences. I can't change or check anything because the screen is "frozen" and the time of response is over and I must to force quit of the app.

My MacBook has Recently completely frozen, I couldn't even turn it off. I then removed the battery and when I put it back in it was completely dead. I've been told that this is not down to the hard drive. I live 3 hours away from my nearest apple store.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm not talking about the System Preferences app itself, I'm talking about the settings within the app. So for instance, the security settings, and the mouse settings, energy saver, etc.
Where can I find the settings files on my Mac so I can back them up?
Ive ran multiple different types of terminal searches for this "flashback" Trojan worm/virus that's going around. I've also searched for com.apple.systempreference.plist and it's not in there at all. I've done safe mode and everything else. I do not have a wallpaper HD lite, I am OUT of options, and I really don't want to have to re install Lion. Can someone PLEASE tell me something, other than those options?

I have a macbook a little over a year old. It's my first mac and I love it. Yesterday though it started acting really weird. I first noticed that it was really, really hot and the fan was running. I turned it off and back on and here's what I found out:
Applications are being deleted from macbook. ITunes, IPhoto, iChat have clear question marks over icon. There are 8-10 blank spaces in the Applications folder where applications have been deleted. However, data is still there (ex. pictures still there, but no iPhoto).
Internet= Says I have internet but wont connect.
Cannot open " System Preferences" or "Internet Preferences".
If connected to home computer will connect to internet and allowed to open internet preferences but still no system preferences.
If shut down....takes a while to come back on and starts up 2-3 times.
Also "Preview" is gone. Now " ColorSync Utility" opens.
Is this my hard drive dying? I'm tech challenged, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have had a new 24" 2.66ghz iMac for 12 days and started using a wireless mouse and keyboard 5 days ago. Everything's been great until today where the system has completely froze up twice resulting in doing a hard switch off. Both when using Safari 4 which i installed when first purchased. My question is how can i find out what causes the freeze?
View 2 Replies View Relatedcould not be sure whether the Admin user - password reset with the CD would be the solution to my question as suggested in previous threads I searched - and have no idea where my start up install CD is
So my question-
I was trying to put parental control to ask for password when my computer starts up. I did something I guess and messed up the info.
I can log in with my own account when I restart my apple - which says now it is a standard account (must have messed that up)- but can not make any changes on system preferences or anything else that requires login and password. It requires Admin info. My own login that I use now used to be my admin so do not have any other info set.
now on system pref - accounts - an account titled "test" seems to be admin but can not even access that and reverse myself to be the admin since I can not unlock system pref. Or cant click on "Login Options" for the same reason.
There are no other users on this computer than me.
What do I need to do to make myself admin again?
Hope this was somewhat a clear question
I recently took the plunge and installed Lion after being content with Snow Leopard....well now I have quite a few issues. When I open system preferences for some reason it automatically opens to Network...why I'm not sure. When I click show all, then click sharing, I can't make any changes in the Sharing preferences without my entire system locking up. I can't force quit or anything. I can still use the mouse but all I have is the rainbow wheel!
I have searched and searched and haven't been able to fix it. I have tried booting into the Guest account and the same problem happens there. I have trashed all the plist files everyone says to try. I have tried repairing permissions etc. I feel like I have tried everything. Is there anything else that I can do without have to do a clean re-install. I'm hearing if I do this that I won't be able to migrate my files from by backups due to permission problems?
I also took a look at my system log and it is full of this!

I was using explorer through parallels when the whole system froze and allowed me to do nothing. Having tried to close all the app's down and also a force quit I was unable to get anything to happen. I left it running over night thinking it would calm down and that maybe it was having a moment, but in the morning nothing. I turned it off and when I restarted it is frozen in Finder.
I have Option-Command-Escaped'd and it brings up Force Quit Application and Finder is highlighted with the Relaunch button highlighted and although the mouse is inaffective, pressing the enter key causes the screen to empty for a moment and then come back up with the Force Quit Application box. Its running OS X.
I was browsing the internet on my '08 iMac when the system suddenly froze immediately followed by the screen turning to nothing but vertical lines. I fear this may be an issue with the graphics card, but would anyone be able to offer any further insight?

Every time I select the icon, the dot appears beneath it, but then it "unexpectedly closes". In addition, whenever I shut down my computer, it resets all of the user preferences I had prior to shutting it down, for instance, wallpaper, dock layout, default browser, etc etc.

A friend of mine who bought her first Mac asked me to check her Macbook Pro and fix the wifi problem. It's a second hand, previous generation 13" MBP with 2.54 GHz C2D processor. I checked Networking menu under System Preferences and couldn't find the Airport. Even when I tried to add a new connection, the drop down menu didn't give me the option for Airport. Finally, I checked "about this Mac" page. Airport was listed there but only as software. I am not a technician or an engineer but I can see that there is a hardware problem and she should take the computer to Genius Bar.

I have System Preferences applications like Fan Control, Apple Qmaster, and others that require the System Preferences to quit and reopen, when I click one of the apps it used to tell me it needs to quit and reopen and then it open and load the application, but now it quits and doesn't reopen, when I open it myself the same message appears that it needs to quit and reopen, and the application never opens.Â
In the Console this message appears:23 Mar 2012 4:11:07 PM /Applications/System Preferences.app/Contents/Resources/launcher[8499]Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â posix_spawnattr_setbinpref_np failedÂ
This may have started to happen after I used MacKeeper Files Cleanup tools, because I've had a similar problem with another application as well.
