OS X V10.7 Lion :: Setting Up Push Notification In Server
Mar 26, 2012
I am setting up a Lion Server which allows users to enroll their ipad, and want to send out push notification.
After I got a SSL cert, enroll the ipad. However, I could not see any way to push my notification to application in my ipad. So here is my question:Â
1. Does the APNs set up in the Lion Server Connecting to the gateway.apple.com:2195 or directly connect to the ipad? Because my target environment will be a private network.Â
2. How can I configure Lion Server so that it could send out push notification? ( either from apple or direcly push )
I revoked my APN cert online @ [URL] to try and clear out some configuration issues on my server. Now I need to create a new APN. Unfortunately in Server.app the old cert is still showing and I only get the option to "renew" it. how i can get this reset?
My push notification for Facebook & Twitterwere working absolutely fine for sometime now, till recentled my Face Book & Twitter passwords. I deleted the account from System Preferences -> Internet Accounts & added it back again, but that hasn't worked either.
I've been looking around and I have yet to find an explanation or guide on how I could push shortcuts to websites and applications to the IOS/OSX Desktop or Dock via profile manager? I feel like the functionality is there, but I'm just missing something really obvious.
i have a domain controller and active directory based policy win 2003, one xserve running mac os x server 10.6.8 and alot of macs workstations. How can i push login script on all macs without adding it in login items? The script i want to store on smb or afp share disk, and will be edited from time to time. I've tried to add it on xserve from WGM, but it threw an error that current directory schema doesn't store desktop settings. So how can i solve this?
I'm looking to setup a public DNS Server on Mac OS X but there seems to be an access control list that only allows clients on the local network to be able to do DNS lookups. How can I remote this?
I have a Mac pro that I use at home. I want to set it up as a server. Like a hosting server that I can log on to anywhere in the world, not just on my local network. I want to set it up similar to a hosting account through someone like godaddy. Where I can log in using FTP or something else. Do I need to install Mac OS X server? I've tried searching but I keep find local home servers. Anyone got any ideas? I'm guessing the first thing I need is a static IP, where do I get that?
This maybe posted in the wrong area, apologies if it is. I've been asked by people where I work to setup a Wiki. Now my initial thoughts would be that it has to go on a Windows server but looking around it can be installed/configured on OSX server. My question is, has anyone got a decent idiots guide on how to set this up. I'm waiting for a copy of Leopard server to come in which I believe has a Wiki function built in, does anyone have any experience on this?
I'm trying to setup my first mac server as a mail server for our domain. Its suppose to receive mail and then pass it onto our exchange server. Is there a good how to on using it as a mail relay server?
I have an old 2x 1Ghz G4 Mac Pro. I'd like to set it up as a server, if that is even worth the time. But, before I do that, I have a couple of questions:
1) Would it be superior in any way to my linux box running netatalk? 2) Would it allow me to do networked Time Machine backups? 3) Can I do it with my family pack of Lepoard or Tiger?
I have 4 accounts set up in Mail.app... Yahoo, GMail, Hotmail and iCloud. I want to enable push on them just like I did on my iPhone 4. I did gmail push on iPhone using the gmail exchange server. But its not known to work on the mac. So I tried instructions here and that magically worked for gmail but icloud and yahoo failed to get the email pushed.

Can I "push"/ "force" Safari to open at login, to a specific page? Is this possible? I have been asked to get all client macs to open to the enterprise Intranet site at login so that news/service updates are put in front of the clients automatically...In WGM I can configure for users or Machines to open Safari at login, and it does this, but does not open the specified Homepage until they Command-n or click for New Window.Likewise if I sit at the client machine and configure Safari to run at login, again the application does activate, but needs client to call up a new page before Homepage shows.Â

I'd like to get them properly set up and organized. My first goal is to work from ONE main computer, I've juggled too many computers and I want to simplify my set up. My 15" MBP will be my work/pleasure, use everywhere computer.I'd like to set up my Mac Pro to work similar to the HP Media Center. I want an 'always on' computer/server for working files, downloads, back up etc. Some suggest I buy an HP media server, it's ready to go out of the box, comes with a url for web access etc. But, I'd rather set up my Mac Pro to for this purpose.I have two video cards in the Mac Pro so I'm going to hook one up to my 24" ACD and get an adapter to HDMI so I can run directly to my 65" Panasonic TV as well. * Or can I do this wirelessly, I realize I can, but am confused on the best way to go about it.
Just wondering if anyone has experience migrating from a Windows work-group server (<20 users) to a Mac Mini. File sharing is the main use but we also share a high speed internet connection thru a router and have networked printers plus external HDD for backup.
I need to create a Watch Folder that when a file is dropped in, a folder action is triggered and that file is moved to another folder and an email is sent to say that the file has been moved.Â
The easy bit is creating the Watch Folder action, I have that working no problem. I can also send the email but what I can't figure out is how to customize the email content to say which specific file has been moved? How can I obtain the file name and paste that into the email notification?Â

I want to setup mac mini as a server for my apple tv and macbook. im thinking of going the sever route 1.because i want to learn serve side things and 2. because i have access to it.I plan on adding a lot more video to my collection so ill be adding at least 1tb to the setup. whats the best solution for my needs?
As you probably noticed from looking at my sig, I have a new G4. It has been pretty heavily upgraded, with a 1.4GHz CPU, 1.3GB RAM, two 160GB drives in RAID, a dual-layer DVD burner, a Geforce 6200LE 256MB, an Airport card, and Leopard. I bought it because:
a) Didn't have a Mac b) wanted to set up a file server
So, how would this work? What I want it to do is serve music, pictures, movies, and documents throughout my house, and I actually need it to work with a few operating systems:
I've recently bought a Mac Mini to use as a network file & print server for my home network. Up until that time, I used an AirPort Extreme for that purpose, but ran into some issues with using multiple external drives connected via a hub to the AirPort Extreme's USB port.
The problem happened on the server installed with x.3.9 runnig for over a year, giving AFP, FTP, NFS, services and runnig OPEN DIRECTORY in REPLICA. The DHCP service is provided by a Xserv g5 giving Netboot service on the same subnet.
In Server Admin, Netboot lost the setting menu as I was accessing it. So no ports to see, no images can be added. The only menus available are
Overview
Log
Clients
The start button is shadded, so not avaiable.
Through TERMINAL, with sudo serveradmin start netboot I get
serveradmin[1076} Exeption in docommand: *** -[NSCFArray addObject:}: attempt to insert nil netboot:error = "NIL_RESPONSE_ERR (*** -[NSCFArray addObject:}: attempt to insert nil)"
I have undated to TIGER X.4.3, but of couse, it is the same. Everything else works.
After reinstalling a NEW system a reconfiguring EVERYTHING, I again lost the menus of NetBoot as I accessed them !!
Booting witn and external FireWire drive with a clone of my working SYSTEM in x.3.9 has the menus but the ports can't be seen.
How can I change my incoming server settings in icloud? the incoming setting is "greyed-out" and suddenly changed overnight so I can't access my mail.
I want to set my OH's Mail program to access her yahoo mail account, but it doesn't seem to want to play. I have set my own Hotmail account to work in Mail with no problem, but with Yahoo, when I enter the usual POP3 server info, it just rejects it. Will it make any difference that we are using a.uk Yahoo address instead of a .com one? Or is it impossible to set up a Yahoo email account in Mail on a Mac?
I am thinking of getting a mac mini for a home theater. I want to set it up in the home theater to hold my dvd's. Is there any way to get front row to view video_ts folders? I know there is another program that will, but I really like front row. Also anyone out there that has done the same thing that can give me some pointers? I want surround sound (optical out) and it would be connected to a projector.
I'm looking for some guidance on setting up a Mini (1.83 CD, 2GB) as a Time Machine server (that I can use to back up my MBP to wirelessly via my network) and I also want to run it as a dedicated bittorrent box. The system I'm replacing is a toshiba laptop running ubuntu with the Azureus webUI. I want some bittorrent client that includes a webUI (hopefully I can just use Azureus here).
Is there any place in the Workgroup Manager where I can set the background image of the connected computers? I can't see any, but I'm thinking it must be possible.
I have a server in our DMZ that connects to Active Directory LDAP server (non-ssl over 389) but no objects actually show up in the directory editor. I get a green light in my Network Account Server, but queries against LDAP return no results. My end goal is to be able to dictate to Profile Manager what LDAP groups are allowed to enroll devices. I tested on our internal network on a test server and get the same results. Anyone have any luck connecting a Lion Server to LDAP and actually being able to view and utilize users and groups?
