This is the second time I've installed the 10.7.3 update, causes about a minute delay connecting to my 10.6.8 server. Happens on another Mac as well. have to resotre from the backup again. Clients are really getting tired of Apple's inconsistency, paradigm shifts and Microsft-esque software glitches.
View 1 RepliesI installed SMC Firmware Update 1.5, EFI Firmware Update 2.7 and Airport Utility 6.0. After installing these updates my internet connection got delayed. Wi-Fi connection seem to be fine, but it takes about half minute before my browsers get through to the net. I have tried several browsers and different networks (at home and at work) and same issue every time a new connection is made or old one is re-estabilished.
Have you any idea how to fix the problem, or should I uninstall the updates. And if so, how is it done?

I am running a 10.7.3 Lion Server bound to Active Directory. There are only several local admin users on the machine; everyone else authenticates against AD. AFP connections work fine, using both local and AD accounts. SMB connections work fine if you use a local account but any AD account is rejected as having the wrong password when connecting via SMB. I've tried using the adusername trick (our AD server is named "ad") even though you're not supposed to need that with 10.7.2 and above... it doesn't help.
I have tried both a Windows 7 client and a 10.6 client, specifying SMB as the protocol in the Connect To Server dialog. Both fail, and they also take several minutes before reporting the bad password (the slowness in responding is yet another problem I've read as being an issue). Checking the kdc.log file on the server I see:

I am using the full DNS name for the server, and on my test clients there are no firewalls or other network issues that would prevent connection to the server. We're mostly Macs here but the Windows users become a rather vocal group when something doesn't go their way. The confusing part to me is that AFP authenticates just fine and SMB doesn't.

I updated to 10.6.1 and now my remote TM backup disk (connected to airport) will not connect. I can't make backups, nor can I access them. SL is some buggy update. If I had the time and could access my backup I would downgrade to 10.5.8!

The 10.7.3 Lion Server System is bound to our Active Directory Server running on Win2003 R2 Server. I tried un-binding and rebinding the system but.. no luck. When a user now tries to login to our shares via AFP with SSO credentials they recieve the message
I can run the id command from terminal on the OS X server and it is seeing AD users. Unfortunately, no one can log into the server shares via AFP with an AD user.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am running Lion Server 10.7.4, with Software Update Server running. My clients are all configured to hit that server as I have them pointed to it via a preference modification (I've also used Workgroup Manager with the same results). What's happening is this:
Client runs SW update locally, it goes to my server and either:
1. It finds no updates (although this is false). If I run same update to Apple's servers ot finds updates
or
2.It finds updates but not all of them.This is what's happening more of the time.
I can verify in the access logs on the server that clients are in fact hitting the server.Is there some sort of cache that needs to be cleared? I was reading something about an Apache issue, or perhaps DNS? I have tried both local IP address as well as name of server.

I am having problems connecting to my remote computer using afp and also sharing Filemaker Pro since upgrading to Lion. We upgraded the remote computer to Lion and 10.7.4 and also upgraded to Filemaker 11 on both computers at the same time. I have been able to access the remote computer and share Filemaker Pro as normal, until I also upgraded to Lion on my Mac. Since I upgraded, I have been unable to access the remote computer or share Filemaker.
I don't have much knowledge of networking etc so i am completely lost as to what to do to try and fix the problem. G3, G4 and Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.4)
"Software Update can't connect to the Update Server" - so I can't even check to see if updates are available.This has been going on for sometime. For a while if I created a new admin account and used that it would work, but not today.Tried creating a new admin account but to no avail.
I clcik on the Apple Icon, (top left hand side of screen), click on SOFTWARE UPDATE, it runs for a split second, then: [URL]after which I check my internet connect to see that it's fine. (And I attempt to run SU with nothing else using the internet). [URL] I've checked the forum and found a few people with the same problem. I've tried deleting PLISTs and using 008.008.008.008 DNS address, [URL], but still cannot get it to work. I still have my old G4 Power running OS 10.5.8 connected to the same modem (Netcomm NB6PLus4w Modem which has 4 ports) as my Mac Mini, and it runs Software Update without any issues. So it's not my internet connection and it's not the Apple server, so it's something about the Mac Mini that's not right.

I updated with the latest Lion patch yesterday and since then Entourage has either hung or taken a very long time to update from our 2003 Exchange server (I have MS Office 2011 but as you're probably aware, there are issues integrating with a 2003 Exchange server). how this might be fixed, short of updating both our 2003 Windows Server to Windows Server 2008 x64 and Exchange to 2010 so I (the only Mac user out of 85 staff) can use Outlook 2011?

I am using an early 2011 Mac Mini running OS 10.6.7, which I have had for a little over a year. A new problem cropped up in the past week. When I put it to sleep manually it takes 2 minutes or more before it actually goes to sleep. I have "wake for network access turned off." The computer goes to sleep automatically at the time set in energy saver without a problem. The manual sleep delay happens whether or not I have applications running or not.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have setup OS X Lion server to act as the DHCP and DNS server for my local network. DHCP provides gateway address and the local DNS server address. DNS is set to forward to my ISP DNS servers. 'A' records and 'PTR' records have been created for the various servers on the network and I am able to resolve the servers via dig by name and address. I can also access the internet without issue. DHCP is handing out IP addresses to Windows clients on the network but I am unable to locate the machines with DHCP addresses in DNS either by IP address or FQDN. The windows clients are able to access the internet without issue. Looking at the DNS log there does not appear to be anything recorded when the DHCP address is allocated. Is there something special that needs to be setup either in DHCP or DNS that will allow DHCP to record the host and address details in DNS?

I have been running Time Machine on my iMac since I got it. I installed server and now I notice that the server app has Time Machine as well but its turned off. My oringinal Time Machine in system preferences seems to be running like it always has. What is the difference between the two?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Snow leopard server with a folder shared Via SMB for the 2 PC's we have, all the macs can read and write to this folder OK. About once a week the 2 pc's take 10 mins to start and then cannot connect to the share. Web/email and sharing betwen them still works. I can ping the server from both. I've turned off the smb and restarted it. Also tried restarting the Xserve. This still has no effect. All internal firewalls are off. I've tried guest access.

Our software update service is not downloading the 10.7.3 updates. I have updated the server to 10.7.3 but it made no difference. I have start/stopped the service a few times - it as downloaded a load of multilingual voices post date 7th Feb 2012 and the Security updates for Snow Leopard post date 2//2/2012 just not the 10.7.3 updates. Do Apple put a delay in the server to try to spread the demand on bandwidth?
Clients are updating fine from the server all other services working normally.

Since the update I haven't been able to run automatic updates, it tries to run and then comes back: "The Software Update Server (r344.local) is not responding. Check to make sure your network connection is operating normally. If there are no issues with your connection, contact your network administrator for assistance." So I go ahead and click it - It runs a connection test and I am 100% connected to the net. I really need to fix this as since I have updated OS X half my programs wont open without updates.

Here again dealing with how OS X deals with .local domains I think.Was previously bound and all was working fine.Have just updated to 10.7.4 When trying to login using the "Other User" the button stays red and says Network accounts unavailable.I can ping domain server by name and IP.Permissions have been rebuilt.
Have rebound. Had a problem at first unbinding inside the Open Directory Utility as it said it could not connect with the domain and an unused account would be left if a forced unbind was done. Tried again by using the minus button instead of the Unbind button and it worked without any message.
So then binded to the domain and all looked good. Green button next to Network Account Server in the Users and Groups.

I have a brand new Mac OS X Lion server. How do I go about setting up my Lion server to download updates for my other workstations (about 30). These workstations are mixed with Macbook Pros using 10.6 as well as some using 10.7, iMac's using 10.6 and 10.7 and Mac Pros using 10.7. I am running a Intel Imac 2008 clean install SL then Lion upgrade, followed by Lion Server install.I have multiple home macs, and intnded the server as a way to monitor and restrict kids internet use.In short, it has changes/screwed up multiple programs, and complicated home sharing issues considerably. Mail on the server machine has permission problems (cannot send mail, unable to sign), Spotlight in mail is non-functioning, finder spotlight searches are inconsistent, etc.I want to revert to plain old Lion.
I have done disk utility/verify disk and verified/repaired permissions, and have 'fiddled' (i'm not an expert) in the keychain/certificates areas, but I think the best solution is a clean install of Lion. When I backup to TIme Machine, is there a way to pull a 'Lion' version of my disk image back, and just not upgrade to Server? I understand I can disable Server and turn off applications in Server, but it doesn't fix my buggy machine. My options are to back up my 250GB of music, 100GB of photos, 100GB of movies, etc on to external drives, and clean install and then reimport everything, but even that will probably mean I cant reinstall my single user licesnse of MS office, VMware fusion, etc that I didn't buy on the App store.
