I have a macbook and trying to connect to the server at work which is a windows machine. I can connect to the wireless fine. They had said if I'm able to use wireless then I should be able to connect to the server. When I click on it, it always says There was a problem connecting to the server. The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.

I am running a 10.7.3 Lion Server bound to Active Directory. There are only several local admin users on the machine; everyone else authenticates against AD. AFP connections work fine, using both local and AD accounts. SMB connections work fine if you use a local account but any AD account is rejected as having the wrong password when connecting via SMB. I've tried using the adusername trick (our AD server is named "ad") even though you're not supposed to need that with 10.7.2 and above... it doesn't help.
I have tried both a Windows 7 client and a 10.6 client, specifying SMB as the protocol in the Connect To Server dialog. Both fail, and they also take several minutes before reporting the bad password (the slowness in responding is yet another problem I've read as being an issue). Checking the kdc.log file on the server I see:
2012-02-09T09:54:22 digest-request netr: failed user=AD\dlennie DC status code c000006d
2012-02-09T09:54:22 digest-request: netr failed with -1073741715 proto=ntlmv2
2012-02-09T09:54:22 digest-request: od failed with 2 proto=ntlmv2
[code]....
I am using the full DNS name for the server, and on my test clients there are no firewalls or other network issues that would prevent connection to the server. We're mostly Macs here but the Windows users become a rather vocal group when something doesn't go their way. The confusing part to me is that AFP authenticates just fine and SMB doesn't.

On my MacBook Pro I have set up a bunch of shares to mount upon login. They then are presented by icons on the desktop, all using server "afp://BMK-rnp (AFP)._afpovertco._tcp.local/SHARE NAME". The shares are hosted on my Infrant/NetGear ReadyNAS Pro, which uses the AFP protocol, and advertises the AFP service over Bonjour. However, when I have had the MBP sleeping for a few hours, not just a few minutes, and I open it back up, it has lost the connection to the shares. I get a message that the server is unavailable, and that the shares are disconnected. I can't do anything about it, except disconnect the shares in the pop-up, open up finder, and click on the "BMK-rnp (AFP)" icon under shared, and then reconnect to the shares. Is there a way, using std. OSX tools, to "re-connect" to the shares? I have tried a small utility - "Bounjour Mounter" - but I never got it working right.

I am having problems connecting to my remote computer using afp and also sharing Filemaker Pro since upgrading to Lion. We upgraded the remote computer to Lion and 10.7.4 and also upgraded to Filemaker 11 on both computers at the same time. I have been able to access the remote computer and share Filemaker Pro as normal, until I also upgraded to Lion on my Mac. Since I upgraded, I have been unable to access the remote computer or share Filemaker.
I don't have much knowledge of networking etc so i am completely lost as to what to do to try and fix the problem. G3, G4 and Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

1. Lion's (10.7.3) user interface becomes nonresponsive/'freezes': trackpad cursor moves, keyboard can be used for typing, BUT gestures stop working and "Dock" is not responding (it is hidden automatically).
2. Tere are frequent "nfs server localhost:/5pBJvp-jULTJrbfF3Hpvc5: not responding nfs server localhost:/5pBJvp-jULTJrbfF3Hpvc5: is alive again" error messages in Terminal while I am running 'find' command.
These error messages seem to be correlated witth the user interface 'freezes'.

I've got a new Mac Mini Server that I'm using to set up file sharing for the first time. I've enabled OpenDirectory and verified that the users I'm creating are being created in (they show up in the Server app and Workgroup Manager app, but not in System Preferences | Users).
File sharing seems to be working fine, but I don't like the fact that each user has access to their home folder share when they connect to the server using a mac elsewhere on the network. I prefer only the shares I explicitly set up to be available.
Thus, a couple questionsWhy is there a home folder created on the server at all? Do I really need a /users/johndoe folder for each and every account in OD?How can I configure sharing such that I won't see the home folder when I connect from another mac on the network? I don't want to leave little "cubby holes" for my users to stuff files into

Im having all kinds of 'not found' issues with lion server but i think alot of them may stem from not being able to stop kerberos from running on Open Directory. Therefore currently im running two Kerberos realms OD and Active directory.. When I try and stop it in terminal it errors see below...
shutting down kadmind
kadmind shut down
shutting down kdc
[code]....
then on server admin it shows kereberos for OD as "running".. still so i know it hasn't worked?

This is the second time I've installed the 10.7.3 update, causes about a minute delay connecting to my 10.6.8 server. Happens on another Mac as well. have to resotre from the backup again. Clients are really getting tired of Apple's inconsistency, paradigm shifts and Microsft-esque software glitches.

I'm trying to intergate my companies AD kerberose with the services hosted on a Lion Server in a golden triangle setup. Here's what I've tried so far.
1. Bind to AD host.
2. sudo dsconfigad -enablesso
3. Make a Opendirectory Master
4. sudo kinit list, all listed services should point to AD KDC.

I have a MacPro and a Macbook. Recently I used the sharing function to play a game with my friend where I connected the two computers to a shared folder. I also installed Hamachi and used that for creating a VPN-network. Now I have erased the shared folder, uninstalled Hamachi and disabled the sharing function, but my MacPro still automatically tries to connect to my Macbook. The message is as following "There was a problem connecting to the server "MickiMacbook". "The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP adresss, check your network connection, and then try again".
I don't really understand why it keeps doing this as I've deleted all of the previously used programs. I've also deleted all of the files in /Library/PDF Services: but that did not work.

I have a Snow leopard server with a folder shared Via SMB for the 2 PC's we have, all the macs can read and write to this folder OK. About once a week the 2 pc's take 10 mins to start and then cannot connect to the share. Web/email and sharing betwen them still works. I can ping the server from both. I've turned off the smb and restarted it. Also tried restarting the Xserve. This still has no effect. All internal firewalls are off. I've tried guest access.

I'm using a Macbook Pro OS X and was wondering if there is a way to stop my airport/wireless internet from automatically connecting to the internet when i start my computer.I want it so that it disconnects from the internet when i close the lid and for it to stay disconnected until i manually reconnect it myself again. I'm currently connected to shared internet which does not require me to enter a password.

I'm running 10.4.9 on a PPC, all recent updates performed.
I have the feeling the problem surfaced after doing the latest security update. I'm not 100% sure though.Whenever I connect to a (samba) share, the progression bar dialogue box just won't disappear. You know, the one saying "Connecting To Server".
The connection itself works without a problem. When I disconnect and reconnect, it shows me two of those progression bars, progressing away in some networked void.

I enabled VPN on the server but it wasn't working corectly so I decided to stop the vpn service because my machine was acting up horribly! It would take 30 seconds to open a program and stuff like that. the vpnd process was taking up 60%-100% of my cpu so when I hit "stop vpn" in server admin, it asked whether i was sure I wanted to do that so I hit stop now.

I have a server in our DMZ that connects to Active Directory LDAP server (non-ssl over 389) but no objects actually show up in the directory editor. I get a green light in my Network Account Server, but queries against LDAP return no results. My end goal is to be able to dictate to Profile Manager what LDAP groups are allowed to enroll devices. I tested on our internal network on a test server and get the same results. Anyone have any luck connecting a Lion Server to LDAP and actually being able to view and utilize users and groups?

At the moment, I have an ADSL modem/router (1 port) connected to my switch (ethernet port 1 on the server and all my clients are also connected into this same switch). ADSL router has IP address 192.168.2.222 (assigned manually - outside my DHCP range). X Serve operates as DHCP for everything else and I put the default gateway as 192.168.2.222. Internet works fine on all computers (including server). But I want the ADSL modem/router to be connected to ethernet port 2 on X-Serve (not straight into the switch). If I just unplug the ADSL router from the switch and plug it into port 2 of the X-Serve, the server can access the internet, but all clients can no longer. Anyone have *any* clue how to fix this?! It doesn't seem that complicated, I feel I have done everything right.

I am tryiing to connect to a remote desktop servere which , I think, is Windows based. I know the IP address which, for example, is 123.45.67.891:2345
When I type this into the "connect remote server" (Finder>Go> Connect remote server) Apple adds a prefix afp:// . In the "missing manual" book by David Pogue he suggests the prefix ought be smb:// for a windows server. Either way, a dialogue box informs me that attempt has failed whem I try to connect

I'm trying to diagnose our new intel servers and VNC.They're of varying configurations in terms of memory, disks, etc, but all are the new xserve model.
Here's what happens.
When connecting to VNC either through ARD's built in software or chicken of the vnc we can see the login screen perfectly, but as soon as we login it suddenly "scrambles." The second a monitor is plugged in the remote display "clears" and again becomes usable.
Here's what's been done so far;
Rebooted the server (VNC broken)
Ran software update (VNC broken)
Booted the server with a monitor attached (VNC works)
Unplug the monitor after reboot + login + monitor plugged in. (VNC continues to work.)
Here's the problem. When I reboot the server I don't need to go through a song and dance to login remotely after a reboot.

For a few weeks now, I can no longer send E-mails using my apple mail program and my iCloud mail address. The error message I get is "cannot send message using the server ...@mac.com (iCloud)". When I get the error message, I can start the "connection doctor", but it takes more than 5 minutes until the doctor eventually establishes a connection "Connection and login to server succeeded".
