I have setup OS X Lion server to act as the DHCP and DNS server for my local network. DHCP provides gateway address and the local DNS server address. DNS is set to forward to my ISP DNS servers. 'A' records and 'PTR' records have been created for the various servers on the network and I am able to resolve the servers via dig by name and address. I can also access the internet without issue. DHCP is handing out IP addresses to Windows clients on the network but I am unable to locate the machines with DHCP addresses in DNS either by IP address or FQDN. The windows clients are able to access the internet without issue. Looking at the DNS log there does not appear to be anything recorded when the DHCP address is allocated. Is there something special that needs to be setup either in DHCP or DNS that will allow DHCP to record the host and address details in DNS?
I have recently purchased a USB Ethernet adapter so I can setup NAT on lion server that runs on a MacBook. I was shocked when it blew away my DHCP Config after I set up NAT, but I stuck with the scope it chose and added the correct DNS and gateway settings.Whenever I start DHCP now, the logs tell me the Config cannot be found, and it blows away all of my modifications to DHCP. On top of that, it won't hand out any addresses. If I stop DHCP, the system logs start telling me that "natpmpd" has started, and then it begins to hand out addresses. The problem with this is, I can't make any changes to the DHCP settings it uses, which means my clients are now getting the incorrect settings for the gateway and DNS.Also, when I modify the Scope with DHCP stopped, the logs tell me it cant update the subnet because it was not found.
I own a MacMini Server in my home network with Lion Server installed. I configured the DNS Service with a primary zone, providing nameserver (MacMini) etc. Server Admin tool create also a reverse zone 0.0.0.10-in.addr.arpa (my IP Range is 10.0.0.I own also an Airport Extreme Base Station (4th Gen) acting as DSL Modem, DHCP and NAT and creating 2 Wireless networks (private and public network) and it's correctly set up for internet access... In AEBS settings the DNS Servers are 10.0.0.3 (MacMini) and 8.8.8.8...With these settings everyting works fine but all the devices (other Macs, windows PCs, etc.) cannot ping each other... The only machine they can ping is obviusly the MacMini because in the DNS settings i punt manually a machine (A) record...
My question is: is possible to setup Lion Server to dinamically update DNS records using AEBS DHCP entries and reservations ? If possibile i don't want to add all the record manually and I don't want use the AEBS only as an access point...

I have a Mac OSX Server (10.4) connected to a switch with various Airport Express terminals around the place. Macs can connect to the network wirelessly (with 128 bit WEP) and WIRED totally fine... but when I try and connect a windows PC either using wireless or WIRED... an IP address isn't assigned. Windows just says "Limited or no connectivity"...
The service shows running but will not give an IP address to Mac or PC. As the leases are running out on the machines they are not being renewed. I restarted the service and then the server. Then I reset the DHCP Client list.I turned on a computer lab so that they would all grab a new address.... none of them did. I logged on to a computer and told it to renew its DHCP address and nadda. If i assign a static ip they are fine
I've recently purchased my first Mac (the new 13.3 inch air model). I seem to be having a bit of a problem with wireless networking, though. It seems that my Mac will reconnect to my wireless network perfectly after resuming from sleep mode just fine for a few days, but after those few days, it will mysteriously stop being able to get an IP address from the DHCP server (my wireless router). My PC is able to connect to the network just fine and always seems to be able to get a new address, but the Mac just loses the ability. I have found that the only way I can get the Mac to start grabbing an IP address from the router is by going into the router settings and changing the RIP mode to a value other than what it currently shows. I generally try to stay in RIP_2B mode, but I change it to some other random value whenever it stops connecting.
I recently updated my Server running 10.7.0 to version 10.7.3 and single-sign-on no longer works for my users. The 10.7.3 Lion Server System is bound to our Active Directory Server running on Win2003 R2 Server. I tried un-binding and rebinding the system but.. no luck. When a user now tries to login to our shares via AFP with SSO credentials they recieve the message
I can run the id command from terminal on the OS X server and it is seeing AD users. Unfortunately, no one can log into the server shares via AFP with an AD user.
I don't understand how it happened, but a school I work with has had the SUS rip through 80Gig in a few days (Snow Leopard Server 10.6.8). Same as with my home server (Lion Server 10.7.3).
I noticed that my Lion Software Update Server has exclamation marks next to all updates from 6/11/12 to 6/13/12. I can not get then to copy, enable or download to my unmanged computers. There are two updates drom 6/15/12 that are working. There are 12 updates in total with this issue.
I am running Lion Server 10.7.4, with Software Update Server running. My clients are all configured to hit that server as I have them pointed to it via a preference modification (I've also used Workgroup Manager with the same results). What's happening is this:
Client runs SW update locally, it goes to my server and either:
1. It finds no updates (although this is false). If I run same update to Apple's servers ot finds updates
or
2.It finds updates but not all of them. This is what's happening more of the time.
I can verify in the access logs on the server that clients are in fact hitting the server. Is there some sort of cache that needs to be cleared? I was reading something about an Apache issue, or perhaps DNS? I have tried both local IP address as well as name of server.
"Software Update can't connect to the Update Server" - so I can't even check to see if updates are available. This has been going on for sometime. For a while if I created a new admin account and used that it would work, but not today.Tried creating a new admin account but to no avail.
I clcik on the Apple Icon, (top left hand side of screen), click on SOFTWARE UPDATE, it runs for a split second, then: [URL]after which I check my internet connect to see that it's fine. (And I attempt to run SU with nothing else using the internet). [URL] I've checked the forum and found a few people with the same problem. I've tried deleting PLISTs and using 008.008.008.008 DNS address, [URL], but still cannot get it to work. I still have my old G4 Power running OS 10.5.8 connected to the same modem (Netcomm NB6PLus4w Modem which has 4 ports) as my Mac Mini, and it runs Software Update without any issues. So it's not my internet connection and it's not the Apple server, so it's something about the Mac Mini that's not right.

Our software update service is not downloading the 10.7.3 updates. I have updated the server to 10.7.3 but it made no difference. I have start/stopped the service a few times - it as downloaded a load of multilingual voices post date 7th Feb 2012 and the Security updates for Snow Leopard post date 2//2/2012 just not the 10.7.3 updates. Do Apple put a delay in the server to try to spread the demand on bandwidth?
Clients are updating fine from the server all other services working normally.
I have an iMac 8-1 with OS is Mac OS X, version 10.7, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, and 3 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory.
When I try to update software I get this error message:
The file AppleMobileDeviceSupportDelta.pkg couldn't be found on the server url....Software Update cant connect to the update server. Make sure youre connected to the Internet, and then try again.I don't know how to "connect to the update server" but I guarantee that I AM connected to the internet!

I am using lion server and when I try to edit the content on the default wiki and click save, the screen just stays in a loop stating "Checking the page status...".
I recent updated to OS X 10.7.3. Since the update I haven't been able to run automatic updates, it tries to run and then comes back: "The Software Update Server (r344.local) is not responding. Check to make sure your network connection is operating normally. If there are no issues with your connection, contact your network administrator for assistance." So I go ahead and click it - It runs a connection test and I am 100% connected to the net. I really need to fix this as since I have updated OS X half my programs wont open without updates.

Here again dealing with how OS X deals with .local domains I think. Was previously bound and all was working fine.Have just updated to 10.7.4 When trying to login using the "Other User" the button stays red and says Network accounts unavailable.I can ping domain server by name and IP.Permissions have been rebuilt.
Have rebound. Had a problem at first unbinding inside the Open Directory Utility as it said it could not connect with the domain and an unused account would be left if a forced unbind was done. Tried again by using the minus button instead of the Unbind button and it worked without any message.
So then binded to the domain and all looked good. Green button next to Network Account Server in the Users and Groups.

I have a brand new Mac OS X Lion server. How do I go about setting up my Lion server to download updates for my other workstations (about 30). These workstations are mixed with Macbook Pros using 10.6 as well as some using 10.7, iMac's using 10.6 and 10.7 and Mac Pros using 10.7. What do I need to do on the client side as well so that they can download from my OS X server. I have created a DNS entry for my OS X server in my DNS as well as a static IP.
I'm running Lion Server 10.7.3. I have a number of 10.7.1 clients on my network that are directed to get their updates from the server. When I run software update from the clients, I get the response that no updates are available.
This is the second time I've installed the 10.7.3 update, causes about a minute delay connecting to my 10.6.8 server. Happens on another Mac as well. have to resotre from the backup again. Clients are really getting tired of Apple's inconsistency, paradigm shifts and Microsft-esque software glitches.
I upgrade Mac OS 10.7.3. from a network with Lion Server in the office, using software update utility. I changed domain to access to upgrades and works fine. Now I am working our of the LAN, and every time request software update, show me a message saying "Cannot find nnnn.server.com", and can't make upgrades from apple's server.I changed domain, an clear lines, but message repeat. All the time search on software update server from office server. How can I change the software update server on Mac OS 10.7.3.
updated to 10.7.4 and cannot turn on my Open Directory service in Server Admin. It's there, but says it is stopped, and it won'y start. After reboot it is still the same.
I've looked high and low. Can anyone point me to some USEFUL information regarding how to setup Lion 10.7.3 server's Software Update Service for 10.7.3 clients? Specifically, I'm tryng to figure out how to "point" 10.7.3 Lion clients to the server for their updates. Currently, the service is on and the queue is full.
I had a goodworking SUS (10.6.8) working but the drive is getting full so i change the location of the files to another disk (in the xserve)and follow instructions from Apple (page 84 from the manual System Imaging)sudo cp -p /private/var/db/swupd/html /Volumes/My_Volume/My_Software_Updates_Folder/This works and i copy the files to a new drive. I also change the SUS so that theu host files for Lion clients url..works also, start SUS in Server Admin but when clients wants to connect i get an error that there is no SUS available and when i use the browser for an check i get een Forbidden error url...ForbiddenYou don't have permission to access /index.sucatalog on this server.Apache/2.2.21 (Unix) Server at 127.0.0.1 Port 80.
Trying to set up the Software Update Server under 10.6.8 Server. Have everything set up properly as per Apple's documentation, but all clients error out on software updates (saying they can't find the index. sucatalog file). When you view this file, which is an alias, within the HTML folder that is created when you enable the Software Update service in Server Admin, the alias doesn't link to an original.I've tried this on two separate 10.6.8 Server installations and I get the same error on both machines.Where is the alias "index.sucatalog" supposed to point to?Software Update Error Log in Server Admin says "Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible" and points to the alias file.

Up until a recent update, software update was working. Now it just crashes. I've tried deleting the Pref's and downloading updates directly, but that hasn't helped.
Server version is: 5.0.8 Current available seems to be : 5.5.24 community server available from h [URL]if I already have several databases running under 5.0.8 what are the hazards with upgrading to 5.5.24 community server?
I just configured my Snow Leopard Server to distribute Lion update's [URL]I also see that the sync is competed with all latets Lion update's and all are enabled. I've adjust all the settings on the clients:sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL [URL]The problem is that all my 10.6 and 10.7 clients doesnt see any availble update's and running the Software Update on the cllient i get the message "The software is up-to-date" I checked all the configs.....reset the complete SUS server and started all over but still the same issue!
I am trying to update my Mac book because it is saying that software updates are available (Mac OS X Lion version 10.7.3). But I keep getting a message saying"Some of the selected updates could not be installed. Software updates can't connect to the update server. Make sure you are connected to the internet and then try again"I am using a DLINK wireless router and have had problems with the internet connection dropping in and out on my Macbook, Ipad and iphone but it now seems to be working on all devices so given I am connected to the internet I don't know why the software updates won't install on my Macbook.
