Jun 3, 2012updated to 10.7.4 and cannot turn on my Open Directory service in Server Admin. It's there, but says it is stopped, and it won'y start.After reboot it is still the same.

Jun 27, 2012I work remotely a lot. After I upgraded to Lion server, I am unable to connect to the VPN service remotely unless I physically go over to the server (mac pro) and log into the desktop manually.Â
Previously, if my Snow Leopard server restarted (due to power failure, etc) and it re-booted up to the login screen, I could still logon to the VPN remotely as the VPN service would always startup (at the login screen) without a user having to be logging in. Â
Now, with Lion Server (10.7.4), if the server restarts, I cannot login back to the VPN. I have to get someone to go over to the server and manually login, then I can access VPN just fine. (I do not, and will not turn automatic login on on my server due to the huge security risk.)Â Â
How do I get the Lion Server VPN service to startup before or at the logon screen even if no user is logged in?

Feb 9, 2012I recently updated my Server running 10.7.0 to version 10.7.3 and single-sign-on no longer works for my users. The 10.7.3 Lion Server System is bound to our Active Directory Server running on Win2003 R2 Server. I tried un-binding and rebinding the system but.. no luck. When a user now tries to login to our shares via AFP with SSO credentials they recieve the message Â
I can run the id command from terminal on the OS X server and it is seeing AD users. Unfortunately, no one can log into the server shares via AFP with an AD user.Â

Jun 28, 2012I am running Lion Server 10.7.4, with Software Update Server running. My clients are all configured to hit that server as I have them pointed to it via a preference modification (I've also used Workgroup Manager with the same results). What's happening is this:
Client runs SW update locally, it goes to my server and either:
1. It finds no updates (although this is false). If I run same update to Apple's servers ot finds updates
or
2.It finds updates but not all of them.This is what's happening more of the time.
I can verify in the access logs on the server that clients are in fact hitting the server.Is there some sort of cache that needs to be cleared? I was reading something about an Apache issue, or perhaps DNS? I have tried both local IP address as well as name of server.

OS X Server :: Software Update Service On Tiger - Saying System Is Up-to-date
Nov 13, 2007I'm setting up a tiger server to serve software updates to the clients, but the server doesn't seem to want to serve the updates. The client can connect to the server, but then shows the user a message saying the computer is up to date. I know that is not true, and I have all the updates mirrored, so why is it not working?
If nobody has any idea, is there somewhere that says exactly what the software update client goes through to check if there are updates available, so I can follow it manually?
Mac OS X Lion Server :: No Web Service Option On It?
Feb 16, 2012I recently installed osx lion server and I dont have the web option as a service in the server app. It isnt in the left side pane with all the others. Its just not there, nor in the menu bar.How can I activate this? Why isnt the server app offering the web service? I cannot add websites or even get started with the web service at the moment.

May 16, 2012With Lion Server Apple killed the FTP Service & GUI to configure the FTP. In the NET I found plenty of description how to enable to ftp, but I found nothing how to configure the sharepoint and ftpusers with the command line. Is their any instructions around. We need to use ftp for some industrial machines we do not offer SFTP. We tried also the Rumpus FTP Server but this isn't stable enough.

Jan 9, 2007My company has been happily using FTP for months now. Then, for some reason that I have not yet determined, FTP stopped. I launched Server Admin and found that the service had been stopped. When I tried to click the green button to start it, nothing happened.
I rebooted the machine, looked in logs, replaced config files...nothing. It simply won't start, and I don't know why
Mac OS X Lion Server :: Windows Users Cannot Connect To SMB Service
Feb 23, 2012I have two Lion 10.7.3 servers joined to my company's AD. These servers provide SMB/AFP file services to users. They have been working successfully until a week ago when a change in AD was made. Now Windows (7 or XP, doesn't matter) clients cannot connect to the server using the DNS name, only the IP address. Mac OS X clients are not affected by this, i.e. they can use the DNS name fine. All clients are on AD too. What I observe from a Windows 7 client is, I open Windows Explorer, type \xserver in the address bar, hit enter, & it denies my connection immediately. If I do the same thing with the IP address (\10.0.1.10), it lets me in immediately.
For Windows clients, I have tried both the short DNS name as well as the FQDN, & neither work. The DNS name on the server itself is fine, verified by "changeip -checkhostname". Whatever changed in AD caused the Lion servers to start doing this because they both started exhibiting this behavior at the same time. The only info I've been able to get regarding what changed in AD from the domain admins was "We changed the UPN fromuser@domain.example.com to Firstname.Lastname@example.com", in other words, to their email address. In the system logs, here's an attempt to connect from a Windows client using the short DNS name:

Jun 11, 2012I have a Lion server and am not able to connect over "ssh" from the public ip address side. At some point I think I heard that "ssh" had to be turned on in terminal in order to work. Is this correct? And can anyone provide the terminal command as I have been unable to find it.

Jun 14, 2012I'm running Mac OS X Lion Server 10.7.4 on a Mac Mini Server with a Promise Pegasus disk array attached. I'm using one of the logical drive of disk array to store the service data of Mac OS X. I had a power failure last night, and I had a problem with the automatic reboot after a power loss. It takes about a minute for the pegasus to start so the mac can't see the service data volume at boot time. Most services weren't able to start or lost their data. Is there a way to make the system/mac waits until the disk array is ready before booting?Â

Mar 14, 2012I had a goodworking SUS (10.6.8) working but the drive is getting full so i change the location of the files to another disk (in the xserve)and follow instructions from Apple (page 84 from the manual System Imaging) sudo cp -p /private/var/db/swupd/html /Volumes/My_Volume/My_Software_Updates_Folder/This works and i copy the files to a new drive. I also change the SUS so that theu host files for Lion clients url..works also, start SUS in Server Admin but when clients wants to connect i get an error that there is no SUS available and when i use the browser for an check i get een Forbidden error url...ForbiddenYou don't have permission to access /index.sucatalog on this server.Apache/2.2.21 (Unix) Server at 127.0.0.1 Port 80.

Have everything set up properly as per Apple's documentation, but all clients error out on software updates (saying they can't find the index. sucatalog file). When you view this file, which is an alias, within the HTML folder that is created when you enable the Software Update service in Server Admin, the alias doesn't link to an original.I've tried this on two separate 10.6.8 Server installations and I get the same error on both machines.Where is the alias "index.sucatalog" supposed to point to?Software Update Error Log in Server Admin says "Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible" and points to the alias file.

May 16, 2012I just configured my Snow Leopard Server to distribute Lion update's [URL]I also see that the sync is competed with all latets Lion update's and all are enabled. I've adjust all the settings on the clients:sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL [URL]The problem is that all my 10.6 and 10.7 clients doesnt see any availble update's and running the Software Update on the cllient i get the message "The software is up-to-date" I checked all the configs.....reset the complete SUS server and started all over but still the same issue!

Mar 24, 2012"Software Update can't connect to the Update Server" - so I can't even check to see if updates are available.This has been going on for sometime. For a while if I created a new admin account and used that it would work, but not today.Tried creating a new admin account but to no avail.
I clcik on the Apple Icon, (top left hand side of screen), click on SOFTWARE UPDATE, it runs for a split second, then: [URL]after which I check my internet connect to see that it's fine. (And I attempt to run SU with nothing else using the internet). [URL] I've checked the forum and found a few people with the same problem. I've tried deleting PLISTs and using 008.008.008.008 DNS address, [URL], but still cannot get it to work. I still have my old G4 Power running OS 10.5.8 connected to the same modem (Netcomm NB6PLus4w Modem which has 4 ports) as my Mac Mini, and it runs Software Update without any issues. So it's not my internet connection and it's not the Apple server, so it's something about the Mac Mini that's not right.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: AD LDAP Connects To Lion Server But Does Not Show Users / Groups
Feb 19, 2012I have a server in our DMZ that connects to Active Directory LDAP server (non-ssl over 389) but no objects actually show up in the directory editor. I get a green light in my Network Account Server, but queries against LDAP return no results. My end goal is to be able to dictate to Profile Manager what LDAP groups are allowed to enroll devices. I tested on our internal network on a test server and get the same results. Anyone have any luck connecting a Lion Server to LDAP and actually being able to view and utilize users and groups?

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Get DHCP To Update DNS?
Apr 14, 2012I have setup OS X Lion server to act as the DHCP and DNS server for my local network. DHCP provides gateway address and the local DNS server address.  DNS is set to forward to my ISP DNS servers. 'A' records and 'PTR' records have been created for the various servers on the network and I am able to resolve the servers via dig by name and address. I can also access the internet without issue. DHCP is handing out IP addresses to Windows clients on the network but I am unable to locate the machines with DHCP addresses in DNS either by IP address or FQDN. The windows clients are able to access the internet without issue. Looking at the DNS log there does not appear to be anything recorded when the DHCP address is allocated. Is there something special that needs to be setup either in DHCP or DNS that will allow DHCP to record the host and address details in DNS?

OS X Server :: Restart VNC Service Remotely
Jul 31, 2009I administer my XSERVER remotely via the built in Apple VNC. However, the VNC service occasionally crashes, and locks my session. It also refuses any more VNC logins. This is particularly frustrating when I am off site! Apple has analyzed this and has no explanation or fix. BUT!!One talented and determined technician came up with this magic workaround. If SSH access is enabled on the server, you can connect to the server via an SSH client (PUTTY is great for Windows clients), and run this command:
sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/kickstart -restart -agent
You must log in with admin rights, and must enter the admin password again to run the command. It can take a minute to run. After it finishes, VOILA! you can login again via VNC.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: SSL Server Certificate Does Not Work (copy Of Cert Included)
Mar 12, 2012I am desperate for help because whatever I do I cannot get my own certificates to work. When I first set up Lion Server a so-called Intermediate CA and a corresponding SSL server certificate was automatically installed and that works fine. Now, I wanted to create my own Certificate Authority (CA) and a leaf SSL server certificate.[URL]First I created my own CA, and then I created a new certificate with the Server App (ID type "leaf", certificate type "SSL server". (see screenshots below), and I had it signed by my own CA. When I checked the certificate it said "valid".Next, I exported the certificate from the keychain (as .p12) and then I went to Server App's "Import a certificate identity" to drag and drop the certificate onto the window. So far so good.
When I opened the list of certificates (Server App -> Hardware -> SSL -> Edit ) the new certificate showed up once, and after the Server App had tried to install the certificate it simply did not show up any more. I have copied the important parts of the certificate below (private parts have been cropped).The common name and the DNS name are "myserver.domain.private", and yes, DNS is working fine.(I stopped started services and re-booted in between creating and importing the new certificate.)Â

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Web-mail Not Working Since Installing File-maker Server 12?
Apr 18, 2012Since installing Filemaker Server 12 on our Lion Server 10.7.3, the Webmail is no longer working. I know with previous installations of Filemaker Server I have been asked whether I wanted to keep the system version of PHP or install PHP which comes with Filemaker Server, but I don't recall being prompted about it on this occasion. Previously I had always opted to retain the system PHP.

And from the WAN I get just a screen saying webmail is turned off and that I can turn it on by using the Server app on the server (It is already checked in the server app).Â
