OS X V10.7 Lion :: Printing To Different Printers And Paper Sizes?
May 25, 2012
I have Lion 10.7.4
I have Parralels 7 and run AutoCAD in ParrallelsÂ
I have a HP Deskject 9800 (USB connected) and an HP Laser Jet Pro CM1415fmw color MFP (wifi connected) all accessable from my MAcBookProÂ
Printing is a hassle from Autocad with my MAC OS. In WinXP, (prior to switching to MAC) I could assign a paper size to each printer in printer set up. Then when printing from AutoCAD I would just select the print I wanted for the paper size and done..... perfect!Â
However, in Mac with Parrallels AutoCAD does not really talk correctly through to the printers on the Mac side. So I have to go into Lion printer settings and change the paper size all the time between tabloid and US letter. I always forget and waste a lot of paper.Â
Looking for a way to set a Lion OS printer to a specific paper size and have it maintain that paper size while a different printer has a differenet paper size, but this doesn't seem possible.Â
Every time I change the paper size in the Lion OS for one printer it changes it for all printers.Â
I have three printers and all loaded with different sized paper, A4, A3 and A5. How can i set the default paper size on each one so that i only have to select that particular printer and the OS would know what size paper it should be printing on?Â
I have a HP 7000 loaded with A3, 6500 loaded with A4 and and B110 loaded with A5. In print and fax, the default paper size is global across all three printers and I have to change it every time. I want to be able to tell the printer or OS what I want to do with each printer and tell it what type of paer is loaded and then each time I selct that printer it would know what to do?Â

Is it possible to select a default printer/print size that is not in the default print size list that OSX offers for "Any Printers" or in the Print Center.
Its just we're trying to run a kiosk on a touch screen iMac that needs to produce a receipt from a small receipt printer that doesn't use a standard print size.
So therefore I need to have OSX set to print to this non-standard size every time it boots up.
Are there any pref files I need to change? Or can I do this through the GUI?
I bought a used Mac Mini (2.0GHz, 4GB Ram-seller bought in July '09) this last week. It has Snow Leopard (10.6.1). It started off with trying to install my HP printer that is shared out on a Windows XP machine. Originally when I turned on the Mini, I could see all the Windows machines (two Vista and one XP) machines on my WIFI network. I used the printer & fax function in system preference to add the printer (I could see it in the list under Windows). I sent over a couple print jobs, Mac shows it is gone, Windows machine shows the job in the printer Queue. Eventually the job simply goes away after 1-2 minutes with nothing coming out.
I currently have a HP PSC 1210 all-in-one that I purchased in about 2003. I'm pretty torn as to what brand of printer I should purchase. One thing that has always bothered me with my current printer is that whenever I print on paper thicker than standard 20 lb paper, it either goes in crooked, prints off center, or jams. Since I mainly use my home printer to print mailing labels and envelopes. I would prefer a printer which you load the paper in the top and it goes straight through, instead of in the bottom which takes the paper up and around. I like the print quality of Lexmark printers, but I refuse to buy a printer which forces me to change the ink cartridges. Are all Lexmark, Canon, and Brother printers like that? It's the reason why I've always purchased HP. I'm not in need of an all-in-one printer either, or one with a fax machine as I have a stand alone scanner and if I ever need to fax anything I just do it from work.
How can I purge my print settings via .plist or other so I can change my paper size? No matter what I select, preview application 'refreshes' my print values to a fixed 8.5x11 that applies a second border to my pdf and pushes everything down the page. Borderless 8.5x11 just won't stay as the value even though my printer has done this before. Worked fine prior, but now it just will not take a new page size.
Q1: how can I delay printing? This was possible in OS9.
I have a thermal printer wich permits me to change the ribbon (Black, CMY, CMYK). If I have a mixed type of files to print, I'd put on hold (in the "print" window) the files that requires the unloaded ribbon while waiting for the other to print.
Of course, I can print all the CMYK, wait until it's done then print the B/W ones but I don't find it practical. Or I can also rush to the print center and hope to have the time to suspend manualy the ones that need it.
Q2: Once a printer is created, how can I change the associated ppd? This also was possible with OS9.
Q3: It is possible to change the printer name once it is created?
When I want to print a 'List' of addresses from Address Book as I do quite often, is there a way to permanantly set the 'Paper Size' to A4 instead of it defaulting to US Letter all the time? Its really annoying when you forget to change it when printing a list in a hurry! On this, Address Book 'Help' is about as useful as a chocolate teapot.
How do I change the Font Sizes in Address Book and Mail? I have done what the mail instructions say to do but does not work. Address Book I don't see anyway to change them.

I seem to be unable to add PDF to my list of printers, as I have been able to do in the past. Is it no longer necessary to add a .PPD file to print directly to PDF from, say, Illustrator or InDesign?

I've always used VMware correctly, but now I just can't run it. I was trying to instal free program Kerkythea but it has failed too. I've read that I should install de x11, wich I did, but when I tryed to run VMware it just failed. Then I uninstalled x11 and xquarck, keep failing installing kerkythea and the VMware still didn't work. I use Lion OS. Unable to retrieve kernel zone sizes - Failed to initialize montor device - Cannot find a valid peer process to connect to - come up when trying to open my Quickbooks in VMware Fusion.
I'm running Lion OS X server and I have set up a printer on my server (the printer is not AirPrint friendly). What I want to do is set it up the printer so that I can get iPads and iPhones to be able to see that printer and print to it. I tried a program called Printopia 2 but it did not work, now I am not sure if it is becasue I have to set up something in system preferences or something similar. I have enbaled the printer to be shared.
In Lion, System Preference, Print & Scan, Printer column, +... Takes you to your list of printers. I would like to remove all of those printers, to start fresh. How can I do this?
I have 3 Macs (iMac 24", iMac 27" and MacBook Pro 15") each are connected to their own USB Samsung printer (ML-2510 and ML 2010). Since the OSX 10.7.3 upgrade from February 3rd 2012, they all have the same problem. The printer is responding, when we send something to print, the printer starts running and then stops before printing anything. The strange thing is that the next time I try to print, it can be OK. I am able to print sometime but not always. This problem is the same on all 3 computers. I have tryed to reinstall the driver from the Samsung web site and it did not resolved the problems.Â
I am having problems printing pdf files off the web. These are past exam papers which are stored on the website. When I try to print the first page is often blank or contains a coloured box which is part of a logo on the website but the text included is missing.Â
When I try to open on preview I get completely blank pages. The websiteis a secure website.Â
I'm using a canon isensys LBP7750 with UFR ii driver. I read in the printer utility help desk that it may not work with Adobe reader v 6.0. I have downloaded the most recent printer drivers and Adobe software. I tried running PostScript but the printer just keeps pausing.Â
I just upgraded to 10.7.3Â from 10.6.8 on my Mac Pro (3,1). Since then, I have had to wait a couple of minutes (with a spinning beach ball) just to print. During that time, the print dialog box is frozen. It doesn't matter whether the output is a network laser printer, a USB inkjet or even a PDF file. And it doesn't make a difference with the application. I have tried using generic printer drivers, reinstalling lion from the recovery drive, using DiskWarrior and Disk Utility to repair the drive, repairing disk permissions and using the combo update. I originally installed Lion from the App Store. I have a Macbook Pro with Lion that has no trouble printing over Air Port Extreme on the same laser printer.
I knew about a lot of problems with Lion and Printers, even here on this Forum I see quite a lot of posts ...but I hoped not for my Samsung CLP-310 Laser Color.I was wrong, because after a software update relating Samsung Printer (and before the update didn't print anyway ...),I'm still not able to print.I've tried to print out just after the update process without any result, so I've rebooted ... nothing, same problem.System Preference "Printer" panel says it's ok, the printer has a nice green bullet aside the icon, status not active and so on as on SnowLeopard; everything seems good, but when I print an advice reports an error "You need update the printer software, do you want I search for you ?" ... Ok, my dear search for me ... but after a while "No software updates available".
Running a Windows Storage server to have a central machine to run services of like iTunes, epbook server and printers. My biggest pain at the moment would be to print from my Mac Mini to the shared printers on the Windows server. Everything goes fine install canon drivers on the mac and connect to the printers vai LPD or SMB.With SMB I can do a print test page from the mac, as soon as I print anything the mac print status simply says sending print data on the windows server it says printing ... and that is that. The same happens for LPD, the only diffs is that the Windows machine is not seeing the print job.Â
What else can I do What server software could I then use on the server to have my iTunes centralised for Apple TV and Mac's so that Mac can actaully print I am new to the Mac world all is well... but this printing have 2 printers on the server and both are doing the same}

This past Monday I arrived home after two weeks to find a bunch of updates waiting, which I happily installed. One was for the Time Machine/AirPort and the rest for the iMac. The computer would not restart after the updates. After spending the weekend reinstalling the system software and rebuilding the whole computer I went to restore from the Time Machine (but no!) and the Mac no longer communicated with the printer wirelessly. I think I figure out the Time Machine thing but I cannot print wirelessly even though the Mac says the printer is installed. I have a Brother MFC-J825DW?
I've tried to print a document with 2side option but on the layout option the selection is inactive.I try to install the latest driver but the result is the same. The worst thing is that with a PC with windows OS it works!
Everytime I go to print an e-mail in Mail 5.2 or Safari 5.1.5 on Mac OS 10.7.3 on my Mac Book Pro 15 inch 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7, the beach ball comes up and spins for approximately 1 minute and 25 seconds.  After this time, the print dialgoue box comes up. It prints immediately after I press print in the print dialogue box. This issue happens only with these two programs, regardless of any printer I use to print. I have reset the printer system, I have rebuild the mail. I have called Apple, which led to a developer support, submitting the info, etc, but have not heard back from them. Printing is fine from all other applications, including Parallels running Windows and Quickbooks running on Windows.Â
I am trying to print reports from my school database software. I have tried 3 internet browsers, turned off all pop up blockers, and I still can't print to screen a report in a pdf. I am trying to isolate the problem. On my PC, just hold the control key and click preview to pull up the report. Is this a problem with adobe and Mac OS X.

In System Preferences > Print & Scan, double-click a printer and click on the Printer Setup button. Under the General tab, in Snow Leopard it used to list the printing protocol / url used to connect to a printer. In Lion it doesn't show that information anymore. Is there a way to still find out what protocol the print queue is trying to print via?Â

I am working with a friend who uses Microsoft Office 2011 on an iMac running 10.7.2. He is suddenly unable to print from Outlook. Choosing Print... from the File menu or clicking a print button produces no result at all - the normal print dialogue box does not appear. Previously he could print without a problem. He has no problem printing from Word in Office 2011.
We have updated Office to 14.1.4 through Microsoft Update. We have worked through the advice in the Microsoft support document 2409305 - backing up Outlook identities, and removing Oulook Preferences as advised there. The error remains. We then created a new identity and found we could print from that. So we followed the Microsoft advice to rebuild the Outlook identity database. We still cannot print from Outlook.
I am using a new CANON MX882. When I print using the Canon easy photo software the print turn out perfect. However when I print from Aperture or Photoshop Elements the pictures turn out with the colors blown out and overexposed. I have the lates drivers availabe from Canon which they say is compatible works with 10.7. I have tried using the printer manament or the software and it doesn't make any difference.
Since upgrading to Lion I have an extra page printing with every print job on my Optra E310 laser printer with cropped off USERID = "xxx", HOST ID = "xxx" and @PJL JOB NAME = "xxx". It seems to happen mainly in Apple applications, i.e. Mail, but has also happened in Acrobat Pro X. Admittedly, it's an old printer but according to Apple and Lexmark it is supported in Lion. I've tried every setting available but can't seem to eradicate the problem. Lexmark support, who were extremely unhelpful, kicked it straight back to Apple.
