It seems since I upgraded to Lion that I have to rely on opening some Numbers file from the File -> Open Recent menu. Some files do not appear in Spotlight and look like they are not on my machine as I cannot find them in the Finder either.
I lost a folder of images that I had to rescue via Time Machine. I thought I got the clumsies, and deleted them by mistake. But checking this morning, My "Bob apps" where I keep apps not in the application folder, apps where missing peacemeal in each folder.
I check images again, and files were randomly missing here and there, same with mp3s. I'm suffering from blurry icons, and the random, auto shutdown that various users are experimenting with their Macs. why the random self deletion?

I've dragged a few often-used files to my finder sidebar, as I did in Snow Leopard, but they keep disappearing. After a little experimentation, I realize that they drop off the sidebar as soon as I change the file in any way. For example, if I have a Pages doc in the sidebar and I open and edit it, as soon as I save the change, it drops off the sidebar. I can see this happening in real time.
This only happens when she copies files between internal hard drives. After copying the files, she verifies that files exist in both locations. She then deletes the files in the old location. Then, newly copied files are missing from the new location.
I've never heard of this happening before, except for with improperly unmounted external drives. I have run disk utility and verified that there are no problems with either drive.
On several separate occasions, one of our users has had trouble with files "disappearing."

Could anyone help explain why this is happening or how to prevent it?
I am running Snow Leopard and Time Capsule on a 2009 mini. The last few days files have been randomly disappearing from my desktop. I then must search for the files and with no luck cannot find them. I then have to roll back my time capsule to recover the files. I did not initiate the removal of files and no one else has had access to my computer. This has happened twice. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I have a Mac Mini running OSX 10.9.3/Server 3.1.2 and a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.9.1. Recently I have noticed that files I create on the laptop are being automatically deleted. I have literally watched them disappear while I watch. The entire folder contents seem to be stuck at a point in time about 8 days ago. If I restore a file or subfolder from the trash, it disappears again within a few minutes.
The account in question is a mobile account. I have set HomeSync to sync manually, so I don't think that is the problem. There are no other folder sync (rsync, etc.) daemons running that I am aware of. TimeMachine is set up on the laptop but the remote disk is full and I need to start a new back up set (or get a bigger disk.)
like i had a folder full of images and then later on i only have a few left? and my textedit and vlc player disappeared from my applications folder all of a sudden.now i did not delete anything myself. i mean even if i did i dont think i would delete textedit.lus i only have one account on this computer and no one else logs on.does anyone know what could be wrong? i used disk utility and repaired the permissions
starting last week, randomly all the files will be gone. all applications installed will still be there, but every file the user has ever created will disappear completely. We have Crashplan running backup constantly, so we are able to restore the files, but a few days later, all the files will be gone again and we have to restore again. by gone I mean completely gone. search for any file and it doesn't exist. eerything on the desktop or in any folders (the folders are gone too.) all the programs will be there and be unable to find any recent saves.
i cant figure out where the downloads are going. In Safari Preferences, it's set to have the downloads go inside Finder in a folder called "Downloads," but the only thing in there is a GIF I downloaded. I searched in the Documents folder, but the downloads are not there either.
I have these Numbers files but need to send them to someone who is using a pc with MS Excel. She won't be able to read the files if they are left as .numbers. The odd thing is that I have successfully saved some of the files as .xls and .xls.xls and even some as .xls.numbers.
However, I have lost data when doing some of these savings - I have been taking the .numbers file and trying to save it as .xls but when I open the newly-saved file there's nothing there. Please look at the attached snapshot of my folder structure. Can you anything in there that might be causing my problem? The red arrows are just to highlight the ones I'm particularly interested in.
After upgrading my MacPro 1,1 to Lion, 2 GB of RAM are not recognized anymore.
I have 9 GB installed: 2x2 GB, 4x1 and the original 2x512MB.
In Snow Leopard, all 9GB were available, now only 7 GB are displayed. According to the memory info, 2 slots (with 1GB each) are 'empty'. I bought all RAM from Crucial.

I've been ripping my hair out trying to find the answer to this.
In Numbers for Mac, I need to fill a column automatically with a series of integers (1 - 50) and then the next column with a function that interacts with the first column.
For example:
Column A - 1 - 5
Column B - (value in Column A * 5)
I can't figure out how to do it in Numbers When I try to fill column a with 1 - 50 all it does is fill all 1's and I cant find an option how to make that change so it automatically numbers when I highlight them.
The best I can describe is how in Excel you can type 1 in the first cell, then highlight a bunch of cells and the little box appears that lets you click "Fill Series"
Is there a way to do this ? When I try to open any file that is password protected, I get an error that the file 'in an incompatible format' (if memory serves, I'm away from my Mac right now). I can open it fine in NeoOffice, but it never works in Number '08. I'd consider going to iWork '09 if the problem has been addressed there.
See above title. i get that there's the "degree(cell)" function, but there has to be an easier way to change the settings so you can just input in degrees rather than radians.
like how calculators have a degrees and radians mode, i find it so hard to believe that there isn't one in numbers. if there really isn't, this is an incredibly flawed program.
The problem I am having is in Photoshop 12.0.4. I had set my cursor to show brush size but whenever I click and drag using a brush (any type of brush) the cursor changes to a standard Macintosh arrow cursor for the duration of the drag, then reverts to the brush size cursor only when I stop dragging. This makes it very difficult to see where I am painting. This only occurs on my MacBookPro… my iMac performs exactly as I would expect it to. I have quit Photoshop and deleted all my settings and preferences files but it doesn't make any difference. I have tried different combinations of cursor settings with no success. I have an external monitor connected to my MBP but it doesn't matter which screen my PS window is on.
I have noticed that my HD space is just disappearing. I have turned off Time Machine Snapshots, so that is not the source of problem. When I go to "About Mac" and "More Info" and Storage it is showing "Others" as taking about 170 GB. The only notable software I have installed are MS Office and HP Printer utilities. Any way to check that is eating up my hard disk space?

Maybe I am missing a setting somewhere but the wee triangles alongside folders in list view randomly disappear. To see what is inside a folder, therefore I have to double-click (which kind of defeats the idea of list view methinks!)
The finder window on my MacMini (OSX 10.7) keeps dropping off the screen and cannot be retrieved. Where did it go? Clicking on the Finder icon gets no results.
Email from my IMAP email account that I move to Trash disappears after 7 days even though my settings are set to remove "never" on all devices (iMac, MacBook Air, iPhone, iPad). Today is 4/22. The oldest email in Trash is dated 4/13.
I've exercised MANY different outlets for solving this problem. I am stumped beyond belief why this keeps happening. Frankly I'm also a little pissd as well becasue I have to recreate my login items through system preferences almost daily as a result of this "bug". Here's the 411. I have about 10 items I want to start upon login. Those apps are things like Safari, 1Password, Osfoora etc. I created the login items through system preferences and used the "+" sign to add each one. Upon booting my Mac back up the next day they're gone. With the exception of Dropbox which usually always remains there. I have NO idea why this keeps happening. I've tried the ways other people on this community have suggested such as trashing the preference .plist file etc. I personally have right clicked on that preference file and changed it to read only, locked the file and nothing works.
I seem to have the following problem. not sure exactly how it started as my wife was using the mac at the time (she says she just dragged the safari to different desktop via mission control) but now the situation is as follows:
When I hit safari icon it switches on (I can see the little light dot underneath the icon and after right click I can see names of windows that are opened) however I can only see the Safari menu at the top but no window. If I scroll to the right or left to different desktops it's not there, the same goes if I double tap to see the Mission Control mode it's not there...
I so far figured out that once the Safari menu is visible on top of the screen I can go to View>Enter Full Screen and then Safari will come back into the full screen mode but once I unclick the full screen button in right top corner the whole window just swoops into the right top corner and it's nowhere to be found again.

I was having difficulty with one or two applications not working correctly so I've just created a new (admin) account on my Mac Pro (10.7.3). The apps in question now work fine in the new user account. Problem is, of course, when I (later) used Migration Assistant to bring in all my old settings, it also brought in whatever the conflict was. So I would like to set things up one step at a time by dragging info from my old account to the new. I've got all my Documents, Application Support and Cache files, but the Applications which require a serial number are still not working.
