OS X V10.7 Lion :: Messages Beta For Mac - Clears History When Closed
Feb 16, 2012
I have a big annoyance with the Messages Beta for Mac. When I close the window and re-open it, all the conversations are gone. This makes it hard to reply to a message I got earlier or review recent conversations. On iDevices, if you close it, everything is still there, unless you delete it.

I've been using the Messages Beta for a while now and its been great. I've it installed on two machines. One machine is fine, but on the other it's nearly unusable. The messages window is all over the place. I click on a message in the left hand side and nothing happens. Double click on another and I get a totally different message. I've odd blank messages... And when I quit and reopen different messages show. Now I reinstalled it a few times now, and nothing has any effect... any ideas while I wait until mountain lion?? Ive also ditched all the prefs I can see.
What I am missing in messages beta is the possibility to see who of your contacts have the application, or are using a device with IOS 5.Now you write the message, and when you want to send it, yu find out that the people are unavailable to imessage. Big advantage of whatsapp or messaging through viber/Skype is that you can see the contacts which uses the application.
For some reason, Messages Beta suddenly began throwing up a dialog when I receve a new text, asking me to accept it. It just started doing this a few days ago. This doesn't happen with every message I receive, and I know the senders that "cause" this message are fellow iPhone users. Could they be using an old version of iOS?
I have a macbook air running OSX Lion 10.7.3. I have installed Messages beta and am using my Apple ID. I also use this apple ID (as well as my mobile number) for iMessages on my iPhone. The app just stays in offline mode, I cannot get it to change to available or any other status. I am therefore unable to send or receive any iMessages on my Mac.I have to uninstall and reinstall the app several times. The status shows as offline in both the menu bar status and the preferences status. All other online service are working.
I get the following error message after installing the Messages Beta. I've since unistalled Messages and updated 10.7.4 hoping this would resolve the issue. It appears that some of the 10.8 security features(Gatekeeper)have been installed on my computer, but my system preferences application was not updated to allow me to change the Mac App store security settingsI do not have a current time machine backup to roll back the OS.

How does one permanently delete imessages from the MessagesBeta Ap for a Macbook? I found the files to delete in the folder in "Documents," "iChat", but every time I start a new message, it brings up all previous conversation regardless
Does the new Messages Public Beta allow screen sharing like iChat did? This is important to me as I use it to provide support to my 84 year old mother, who has been a Mac user since 1986.
Just downloaded it right now and it's excellent! However, I notice a possible flaw in which whenever I receive a message from someone, it will notify me on both my Mac AND my iPhone! As you might imagine, it's pretty annoying given iMessages are flying through on my Mac. I was wondering if anyone knows how to stop iPhone notifications when messaging on Mac. I hope this feature will be added in ASAP from Apple if it doesn't exist yet!
I installed the Messages Beta on my mac today tried sending iMessages, never worked whats worse is my iMessages on my iphone & ipad stopped working too! I can no longer send/receive iMessages!
I recently downloaded Messages but I'm not able to delete it because it says: “Messages” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X.
I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question, but today my Apple Account forced me to change my Apple ID. Just moments ago, with all my prior Apple ID info intact, I downloaded the Beta for Messages. Is that involved?
My add-ons are all installed, and enabled, but most are not working. The plugins are all just gone, such as flash. I installed flash again, restarted, and it still doesn't have flash.
Using Messages I sent a text to my wife's iPhone 4S. It starts a new screen. How do I send a message so it just appends that message to all the others she's been getting from me?

This is a case where that extra few millimeters in tray position meant the drive was physically incompatible with the Mac Pro. Before I go shopping for a new drive, I'd like to find out if you guys have recommended brand/models that you KNOW fits into your Mac Pros (because you installed it and it works, duh).
In preferences, I set safari to clear my downloads manually but it still clears it automatically. I've already tried reinstalling Safari 4 but the problem just cropped up again a week later.
I like Safari's U.I. very much, but, everytime I load around 5 pages at the same time it starts to freeze and give me the rainbow circle on the mouse pointer. If I open the same sites with Camino everything works great and even faster than Safari.
I do not want to quite switch to Camino, because its UI is ugly, but its really superior to Safari on speed terms and has the same compatibility as Firefox, because its Gecko engine (?). I will miss Top Sites and Safari's UI so much
How your Safari works? Is it fast and freeze free?
I have purchased the lion from Mac app store, But since i was eligible for a free upgrade, apple refunded me 30$. But now i am ready to upgrade from snow leopard to lion i can't see it in my app store under history purchases or even in the hidden section.
I write a bunch of command, then I use arrow up/down to scroll through the bash history and very often I find few characters of an old command (highilighted in red above) prepended to the one which is being retrieved from the bash history. Note that this is a display problem only, as the last of the commands above executed correctly.
I have a program that was backed up using Time Machine and I was wondering if I could delete the program from my Back Up history with out having to start a band new back up of every thing.
Why doesn't safari history save google searches in OS 10.6.8 or Lion? It records image searches but not the google search unless you use the google search on the bar and not in the window.
My macbook pro (early 2011) won't go to sleep when I close the lid ever since I upgraded to Lion (10.7.4) from Snow Leopard (10.6.8). The computer will still sleep when I click on "sleep" from the Apple menu. The computer just won't automatically sleep when I close the lid.
I tried a number of things: 1. enabling/disabling internet sharing (don't have it enabled in the first place) 2. uninstalling Little Snitch 3. Delete printer queues. Also tired deleting all printers & resetting printing system. 4. SMC reset 5. Delete: Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > System Configuration. Nothing works.
I have an 13" MBP that I ordered new in April, 2012. It is running Lion. I have an external monitor that is capable of 1440x900 resolution. I have an external keyboard and trackpad hooked up, and I like to close my MBP up and stick it in a BookArc. I want to be able to have the internal display disabled and to have the MBP only allow me to put windows on the external display, so long as the lid is closed. I also want to be sure that I am taking advantage of the resolutions available on my external monitor, which are higher than those supported by the internal display (specifically 1440x900).
This doesn't seem to work because I either have to allow the MBP to continue to draw my desktop across both screens (internal and external), OR use the "mirror displays" mode, which restricts my resolution of my external monitor. This means I either forgoe the additional resolution benefits of my external monitor, or I end up with windows that fall off-the-cliff, so to speak, because they are drawn in the portion of the desktop that would be shown on my internal display (which is closed).
I've read the community support pages on using the MBP with an external monitor, most relevantly, this page. It simply recommends using the "mirror displays" option. However, this option, as I mentioned above, doesn't allow me to make use of the additional resolution, and my external display looks bad. how to keep the 13" MBP in closed clamshell position, with the internal display disabled, and use my external monitor at resolutions higher than those allowed by the 13" MBP but which are available to my external monitor when not in "mirror displays" mode?

I use a macbook 13in and run lion. Last night, I checked out the activity monitor and there were programs/files(?) I didn't recognize. I understand that some of these are important and quitting them may cause problems. How do I know what programs I can quit?
