OS X V10.7 Lion :: It Cannot Recognize My Internal WIFI Hardware
Jun 1, 2012
My Macbook Pro will not recognize my internal WIFI hardware. The hardware address of the internal wifi doesn't show up when you go to (about this mac). under network wifi.
First off I want to say I've been looking for answers for this on google for a few days, and I've found similar problems but none of the fixes have seemed to help me. Then again I may be doing something wrong. I've recently purchased a 500GB Momentus XT to replace the stock hdd in my early 2011 mbp 13".Originally placed the disk in an external usb 2.0 enclosure and made a clone of my the stock disk. I could boot fine from the momentus xt when being run from the enclosure.
Problems arose as soon as I tried to swap the drives around. Now I could boot fine from the stock drive (in the enclosure) but the momentus XT could not be booted from. I tried swapping the momentus back to the enclosure, and it still worked fine this way. I attempted to reset PRAM and Smc, and it didn't help me.
So I tried to reformat the drive, and to make a partition of 495.11g with the rest being empty space (I read this may help). I then put the momentus into the internal bay, in hope of booting osx from the original disk over usb, and migrating the data I needed over. Disk utility could not recognise there was even a disk in the internal bay (the momentus), just as before.I tried updating to lion (I was on snow leopard before) and turning it on again, but still disk utility couldn't even recognise the presence of the momentus xt when used in the internal bay.
I have noticed that I am having trouble updating the EFI firmware to version 2.7. Every time I try, it runs through the installation, restarts, says install was complete. But when I go to system update, it still lists this as an update, and system profiler still says I'm on the older version. Yes, I have tried updating it using the package from the apple website, it is no different.

I just recently installed an internal seagate ultra ata 100 80gb hd into my powerbook g4 (the old one crashed beyond use). I hear the drive spinning when I boot up the computer. However after the computer boots up with the original boot disk that came with the computer and I try to format it using disk utilities, it does NOT recognize my hard drive (e.g. the hard drive doesn't come up on the list of drives to fix).
My son called and said his wi-fi stopped working. His internet connection is good and he can connect directly to the router and get a connection, however, he needs the wi-fi. He has powered down the IMAC,router, modem with no luck. Under network preferences it says not connected, with yellow light. No network IP address for the router as I assume it cannot find it. He is running OS X 10.6
I am running bootcamp on my macbook osx 10.6.8 and when I use windows it doesn't recognize my wifi connection. So I have no way to connect to wifi on windows. I am not sure how to get Windows to recognize my wifi....
It will connect to it fine manually, but when it open it up it tells me that none of my preferred networks are available. I've modified my list of preferred networks, still doesn't work.
The menu that lists the choices for my wifi internet connection includes the internet connection I set up with the SSID that I recognize (call it A) - but it also contains another SSID that I may have set up a long time ago and forgot about (call it B). B's SSID is the same name as the brand of my router; it has no protection listed. It also gets better connectivity than SSID A. How can I find out if B is actually my own connection? How can I add a security password?
I recently had WiFi installed on my MacPro 2006. It is not a PCI card, it is wired to the board (I had to take the box in to a registered dealer have this installed).
I have a very weak signal and can't even open a webpage. It's attempts to load, but fails intermittently.
I can connect to my NAS or other network shares, but they are very, very slow.
I am no more than about 15 meters from the Timecapsule, two rooms away.
My Macbook has a perfect signal (very strong) at the same spot and operates as if I were right next to wireless router (1TB Timecapsule). I also have a Dell laptop that has a very strong connection.
The WiFi in the MacPro is as good as useless. I cannot move the router as it runs off a cable modem and I only have one cable connection in the apartment. I also don't want to have ethernet cables running all over the place.
I am using at home an iMac connected ( with cable ) to my Home WiFi Router. All other products are using the same WIfI home network ( Without a cable ).Can I define my iMac to use ONLY MY HOME WIFI instead of other unwanted wifi networks ?
I re-installed lion on my new mini to get to Setup Assistant to transfer files from my older iMac. The transfer went well, I think. However, I cannot login. I have tried no password (the way the old iMac was set up). I have tried every password that I can think of including my Apple ID password. I did not set up any password for the new computer, but it did offer a hint for a password that it wiil not accept. How in the world did it come up with a password with out my consent? and how can I access my new computer?
I have a TimeMachine drive running for years over USB. Yesterday I connected it to my AirPort Extreme and ran TimeMachine by accident. Now when plugging the drive back to USB, TM will let me browse all the old backups, but when I try to perform a new backup it acts as if it's the first time I'm running it — meaning it indexes everything and try to store a full copy of my files (which it can't since the drive is full with the old backups).
what might have happened when I ran TM over the network and moved back to USB? Is there any way to force TimeMachine to use the old backups? It's really cryptic how I can browse the backed up files but not make a new backup.
Wi-Fi connection often stops after lion has been asleep. Other devices have no such problem. All was fine until this week. Lion is barely 3 months old. It's not a drag to reconnect, but should I have to?

Superdrive recognizes all disks, even movies. DVD player is set to open when a movie is inserted so everything works up till that point. The movie never actually loads and when I click play the windows reads "Supported disc not available". I use iSkysoft DVD Copy Pro to back up my DVD media. When I attempted to do this yesterday DVD copy pro would not load the movie. I used VCL and the movie played fine then tried DVD Copy Pro and it loaded the disc. But DVD Player still doesn't load the movie. I booted in Win 7 and Win media player played the DVDs fine.So far I have:
• Tried several DVD media and all read fine but DVD player does not load movies. Note, I have only inserted US region DVD
• Repaired permissions
Repairing permissions for “Lion” Permissions differ on “Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Frameworks/iPodUpdater.framework/iPodUpdater” ; should be lrwxr-xr-x ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .
Lion is working perfectly and I'm having no issues. I launched the App Store app the other day and noticed under purchases that although Lion is listed as one of my purchases, the button to the right doesn't read "Installed" like my other purchases do. Instead the button says "Install". Lion already is.
I am teaching myself UNIX and messing around with the terminal and noticed when the book I am using stated you can us
ls | spell
to pipe the cpommands and spell check the list tht the ls command gets yet when I try to use the spell command it says it is not recognized and when I try and pull up the man page for it says it does not exist....any reason why it is not working?
trying to download a .epub book. The .epub goes to my Download file and when I click it Application Loader pops up asking for my Apple ID and password. It says it cannot find a registered user with my user name. I don't know why it even pops up. It says its purpose is to help me prepare my apps for sale on the App Store. I just want to open the .epub.

I have an external drive partitioned into 4s, 3 of them are for backups. I backed up each computer via USB, then connected the external to my Airport Extreme. I've done this before, and all worked well, however, this time around not so much. None of the computers recognize the previous backup and want to do a complete backup over wifi, which as you can imagine would take forever, especially for my iMac with 400 GB to back up. how can I get my computers to recognize the previous backups without having to connect the external via USB every time I want to back my computers up?
I have an HP DeskJet 6540 printer and I replaced the ink cartridges. After I replaced the cartridges, I aligned them and then did a test print. I noticed that the blank ink didn't print. I opened system preferences, and then I opened the printer utility. It says, "Device Status : Pen Failure." Current Supplies Levels says, "The current levels for the selected printer are shown below...Cartridge on the left (tri-color 97) is unknown and the the cartridge on the right (black 96) is missing." Oh, I forgot to mention that the print cartridge light on the left side is flashing. I went to the HP support website and it says that the problem could be an incorrect print cartridge, incompatible print cartridge, or problem with the (left/right) print cartridge. The solution they offered was to remove, inspect and reseat the problem cartidge. It also said to clean the problem cartridge contacts. I did that and it still gives me the same results. I even reset the printer but still got the same results...
So the next thing I try is the OTHER cartridges listed as compatible with my printer which is 94 (black) and 95 (tri-color). I bought the new cartridges, placed them in the printer and I still got the same message from the print utility. I took the latter cartridges back and got a refund and explained that none of the compatible cartridges are working with my printer. I kept the 96 and 97 cartridges in the printer and the light on the left continues to flash so now I'm here asking if anyone knows how I can get my printer to recognize the new ink cartridges I installed?
My IMAC recently downloaded software from Epson for my Epson Artisan 810 printer. The result is that my printer no longer recognises non Epson printer cartridges. Do I have to buy genuine Epson cartridges or do I buy a new printer?
