I just got a new Macbook Pro 15.4" laptop (and I love it!). The OS version is 10.7.3. I have been installing a bunch of applications and have noticed one thing thats kindof annoying. For like 90% of the applications I install this happens.... I let the install finish then I browse to the download folder and move the .dmg file to the trash. So far so good. But then when I try to empty the trash I get the message: "The operation can't be completed because the item <app name> is in use." The application install finished so why can't i delete the .dmg file? Is there something in Mac that is similar to the Windows Task Manager so that I can see if the install process is still running in the background (and kill it)?Â
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo recently I tried to install a Genuine Fractals trial on my Mac Pro but the installer would never open. Whenever I tried opening it on my MacBook Pro, the installer opened perfectly. Now I am trying to install a Twixtor demo on my Mac Pro and am encountering the same problem. It opens fine on my MacBook Pro, and I have no idea why it won't open on my Mac Pro. I tried clicking the checkbox under Get Info for opening with Rosetta, but that didn't do anything. Does anyone have any ideas?

i am deciding to buy an mac os x and i am a little confused..
copied from the description of the seller: this is the retail disk and can be installed on any computer that has the system requirements outlined below.
copied from the seller: This Family Pack allows usage on up to five Mac computers in one household.
that's the 2 OS's i'm confused about.. so, the first one is like an unlimited client? and i can install it on an unlimited number of computers? and the other is limited to only 5?

I recently (2 months ago) purchased a new mac book pro and migrated everything from my older mac book pro running Snow Leopard to Lion.Since moving to Lion I have been experiencing frequent crashes of Mac Mail, I spend a large portion of my work day in mail and experience this as many as a dozen times a day. Mac Mail will crash while
1) composing an email,
2) when clicking a link in an email
3) clicking the attachment icon to add an attachment
4) clicking on an attachment that has been sent to me
5) somestimes just trying to exit/close Mac Mail and the it hangs and I have tp force quit. After Mac Mail crashes and is restarted, clicking on the same link or attachment will workI have removed my mail IMAP folder and settings and re-established the connection from scratch but the problem persists.I have ran the disk permissions repair utility and the problem persists. I have ran the verfiy disk utility and it reports no problems.I have ran the Apple hardware tests including the extended tests and no hardware issues are found. Has one experienced somewthing similiar?Does anyone have any suggestions where to start looking for the root cause? All crash reports seem to look [code]

My late 2008 MacBook (aluminum) crashed last month. I have fixed many of the items that quit working except: I can no longer automatically log in. When I go to Preferences and then to Users & Groups (Login Options) the "Click the lock to make changes" always goes to page which says "System Preferences quit unexpectedly." On that page it says Exception Type: EXE_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) and Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000000. Is there a solution that does not require me to wipe the computer and reinstall from scratch?

I am really confused as to why about a week or so ago, my email on my MBP crashes several times a day. It appears that it happens when I am doing something within email. Maybe clicking on an email to read, add an attachment, etc. Its not so obvious that its the same thing. The wheel starts to spin and then I get the crash message.

My 2008 iMac with OS X 10.7.3 crashes every time I play a Flash video, or access a website that uses Flash. The problem is persistent in Chrome, Safari, and Firefox, with and without 64-bit mode enabled. I have updated to the latest version of Flash. I have also checked for a number of known trojans that might be messing up my system, but I am clean.
The problem started four days ago. Prior to this I have had no issues with the machine, now it crashes consistently on viewing Flash.

My powermac keeps crashing about after a few hours of use.
I installed some new samsung 1gb x 2 ram.
The hardware test and techtool show no problems but I'm positive the ram is the culprit.

I finally narrow down my computer issue and it is not related to Spotlight or either the Time Machine, it is something else that is crashing and causing the drop of speed. I have enclosed the crash report and the activity monitor to give a better idea of my computer.
My system resources:
- HD with over 300Gb of space
- 8Gb of RAM (most of the time 4Gb RAM free)
I have plenty of computer and resources and it isn't a issue related to hardware but software. There is something in the processing that still going on that I do not know.

Last night all my desktop icons just disappeared all of a sudden, I restarted my laptop and they came back but when I try to click and drag anything on my desktop or copy something between finder windows, they just disappear again and Finder crashes. I downloaded the newest update and installed it, which didn't fix the problem so I found a similar problem on another forum and tried doing what they recommended (which was to delete the Cache folder and some files from the library and restart the computer) After I restarted, finder started crashing every 2-3 seconds and giving me a message saying that Finder quit unexpectadly while trying to restore it's windows.Â
