Several weeks ago I upgraded my mother's MacBook to Lion. I had also intended to buy lion for myself but my iMac's hard drive died.Since Lion was installed the MacBook's battery life has been very, very poor - even booting up can cost 5%. A lot of people gave been discussing this. I have googled this issue and emailed Apple, but there seems to be no solution on the horizon. So I am going to reinstall Snow Leopard on the MacBook. I had intended to contact Apple to see if a refund would be possible. However, just yesterday I replaced the hard drive in my iMac and it is working fine now. So I was wondering since I paid for the Lion OS, is okay for me to install it on my iMac rather than attempt to get a refund. Is that legal? And would it work? Would the fact that it was bought using my mother's AppleID (my money though ;)) mean that if I install it on my iMac it will make my computer my morher's computer - meaning my morher's login and details will overwrite mine?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got an old - 2 years - Maxtor 500GB USB external unit attached to my iMac running OSX 10.7.3 - which is used for backups. I received a couple of errors when copying some files so decided it would be best to erase it and start again with it.I used Disc Utility to erase it ( Mac OS Extended Journaled) but - and lord knows how I did this - its now telling me its got a capacity of 901 GB...

I am having a problem with my disk space as I recently, by mistake, used the erase free disk space feature in Disk Utility, "loosing" in the process around 30 gb. Is there a way to reverse this process and reclaim the lost free disk space (without having to backup all the data and restore the entire system?

My "Purchases" section shows "Install" on the OS X Lion row instead of "Installed" like the rest of my apps. Lion is running fine and I even Restarted to see if it would go away. The "Insall" is highlighted like it expects me to click the button. Should I? Is this some kind of Update?

I bought the Lion Server and downloaded it.I ran the installer. A window appeared saying "Your Mac needs additional server software. Click Continue to download and install the software and finish configuration."It then shows a progress bar and proceeds to download, but stops with the error message:"Can't install Server Essentials because it is not currently available from the Software Update server." There is only an "OK" button that cancels the installer.I wasted hours with phone calls and support chat but they didn't know anything. it really seems like Apple has expanded to the point of incompetency.

When I bought my Macbook Pro on Thursday I also purchased Pages whilst in the Apple store in town. The assistant helped me start the installation whilst I was there and he told me that it would continue when I got home, even if i shut the laptop down there. So this is what I did, however, since I've been home, every time I click Install on Pages in the App Store a message comes up saying : "There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later." Another thing I should mention is that I purchased Pages on a different Apple ID account when I was in the store, but I was told I only had to log in to that account from my Macbook Pro and I could easily download Pages.

Have just upgraded my macbook to Lion. I logged into the app store, bought, downloaded and installed Lion no problem.
After upgrade I returned to the app store to download ibooks author. I can find ibooks author but when I try and install the app I have to sign in and I get a "connection failed" error message.
The same happens in iTunes when I try and view my account - "The network connection failed"
I can access the internet with no problems - including secure sites. I can access software update with no problems.
I have made no changes to my network settings - could sign in and download apps before upgrade, unable to after upgrade.

Ever since I downloaded iplayer - my mac has been running slow. I have followed a few tips to remove it and all other related files - but it still runs low (spinning wheel of death) and now pdf's dont download correctly (I guess I have deleted too much).
My ideal would be to start from scrach - although I want to keep my itunes and iphotos files as well as my documents. Is there a way to reload back to factory settings then add selected programs and folders from timemachine? I am in the process of timemachine backing up everything now.

I can not update or install new apps. Some work though, some do not. For example I can update GarageBand and UberStrikeHD(2 random apps that I have an update available for) and I can not update LevelHelper and Trillian(also just 2 random apps I have an update available for).As for new apps ... Well, all that I tried they didn't download(ReadLater, CodeCollectorPro and RamOptimizer Lite, Apple Configurator are 4 of the apps I tried downloading). I get to enter my password, the app "goes" into the Launchpad, but the bar that should show the progress of the download gets filled instantly and the Appstore shows "Installed" instantly, while the Launchpad icon also shows the bar full instantly, but the app is obviously still greyed out since it didn't really download anything. Then after a few seconds I get an error:"The application could not be downloaded. The requested URL was not found on this server". Cancel or Retry, retrying doesn't work either.
I am using a broadband internet connection, but I tried it with several USB devices and I got the same result (also tried sharing the broadband connection from a macmini and connect to it through internet sharing, still didnt work)... And I do not have 10.7.3 installed, since it is a 2GB update and my broadband data plan is capped at 4GB, but I doubt it will fix anything, since in the past I got this error before, but I have no idea how it got fixed. I also tried every Apple provided support article.
Console log shows 3 errors, as follows:
