OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Highlight A Single App In Dock

Jun 29, 2012

I was able to cast a spotlight on an app in my dock, and then the rest of the screen became dim.  For example, my Pages app was once open; after I clicked on it, along with pressing some other key (I assume), the Pages icon had a "light" shine on it in the dock, and the open window for the app moved to the center of the screen as the desktop darkened.  It somewhat resembles what happens in Mission control.  After having not seen that feature in many months, it happened again a little while ago by accident, but with a different app.  What is this feature called?  And what keyboard shortcuts are necessary to make it happen?

OS X :: All Open Windows In Dock To Move From One To Other One With Single Click?

Nov 17, 2009

Do you know if there is any way to have all my open windows available in the dock to move from one to other one with a single click? Though I liked the Expos per application feature, I would prefer having all my opened windows available in the same region they are minimized. On similar way, do you know if there is a way of having all the opened windows [instead of all the opened applications] available when doing COMMAND-TAB?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Turn Off Single-app-mode?

Apr 20, 2012

I got a new MacBook Air a couple months ago, and transferred the data and settings from my old MBA. Ever since then, it has entered 'single-app-mode' which can't be turned off. I have tried (in Terminal): defaults write com.apple.dock single-app -bool falsekillall Dock To no avail. No matter what, it stays in single app mode. This is making my MBA virtually unusable. I can't drag and drop between apps, I can't see the iOS simulator and XCode at the same time when debugging, I can't even reference a document while writing an email, unless I print it. It's absolutely terrible. To make the problem even more annoying, when clicking an icon in the Dock to switch apps (really the only way other than command-tab) it doesn't open the last window used. e.g. If I have three Safari windows open, and I switch from email back to Safari, it will open the least recent window, so I have to hunt for the window that was open last. Every single time! If I log in as a different user, the problem doesn't exist, so it's definitely a configuration issue. I do notice, when I use 'defaults read com.apple.dock' that "single-app" is listed in quotes, while other settings are not:

[code]...

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Possible To Migrate Single App From G5 To Mac Mini

Jun 10, 2012

I recently migrated a MacBook Pro to a Mac mini - all went well enough. I realized that Final Cut Express HD is on a Power Mac G5 that I've retired. I have moved and can't seem to locate the install disc, so I'm wondering if it's possible to migrate just a single app over from the G5 to the mini.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: New Preview Won't Open Single Images

Feb 19, 2012

I have been using preview to investigate screen shots I've been taking. The problem is preview is opening every single file I've viewed with it when I open it. I take a lot of screenshots.

How do I get image preview to open JUST the image I told it to open? How do I make it stop opening multiple images at once when I don't ask it to?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Want To See Single Messages In Mail Window

Jul 1, 2012

Since upgrading to Lion, whenever I open a message with the same header and sender as a previous one, it puts them all together in a single window. How can I get Mail to only show the latest in the window when I select the message? I receive daily alerts from various services, and I don't want to scroll through them to just see the one message.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Multiple Documents Un Single Window In Preview

Feb 27, 2012

I mostly use Preview.app (on Lion 10.7.3) to read and annotate relatively large pdf documents (articles, reports, etc.). While working on a given project I tend to have many pdf files open at the same time. I personally would like to have all of the pdfs I use open in a single window, so I have Preview set to "Open all files in one window" (Preferences > General). This setup initially worked very well since it allows me view all of my open documents in the sidebar (similar to tabs in a browser window). The problem is that when I switch from one pdf to another, the position of the pdfs (i.e., the page I was on when I switched to another pdf) is not preserved. This seemingly defeats the purpose of having this functionality in Preview,is this the intended behavior of this setting, or is this a bug? In either case, is anyone aware of a fix for this? I just want the documents I'm reading to preserve their positions when switching between them when opened in a single window.

I know it is possible to add disks to a concatenated RAID set without destroying the data on the disks already in the set, but I cannot get Disk Utility to let me create a single-disk concatenated RAID set.

OS X Mountain Lion :: How To Print Single Email From A Conversation

Jun 3, 2014

When I view a received e-mail in Mail, it appears as part of a conversation. I want to be able to print single e-mails. In the View menu, 'Organize by Conversation' is checked by default. If I select an e-mail in my inbox, it appears on screen as part of the conversation, but with a gap between individual e-mails*. if I select the particular e-mail in the conversation that I want and go to Print, it prints the whole conversation. If I uncheck 'Organize by Conversation' and select an e-mail in the inbox, it again appears on screen as a part of the conversation, but without a gap between individual e-mails* and if I print, it still prints the whole conversation. * This, too, seems perverse. I would have thought that with 'Organize by Conversation' checked, the conversation should appear onscreen as continuous, whereas it appears with gaps, and, conversely, with 'Organize by Conversation' unchecked it should appear with gaps, whereas in fact it appears without gaps. I then found this:[URL]  But nothing seems to work. I tried changing the 'View' setting in Preferences, I tried all the Expand and Collapse options in the View menu and all other options in the View menu, but the printing behaviour remains the same.  The only method I have found for printing just part of a conversation is by selecting its text, pasting it into a text document and printing that.

OS X :: Highlight Incoming Messages In Mac Mail

Apr 24, 2010

Is there anyway to highlight an already read and saved message in Mac Mail? To clarify, when I open Mail I have a window that shows all my incoming messages, both unread and read. Sometimes after I read a message I want to be able to go back and quickly find it. This could be several days later and in the meantime I have 50 more saved messages and trying to find it is difficult. Is there some way to highlight it in color or flag it so I can easily go back and find it? I am running 10.5.8 although I doubt that has any bearing on anything.

OS X :: Menu Highlight Gone (Right Click On Options)

Mar 7, 2008

That's what I see when my mouse is over any menu item and when it's not over any menu item. I've lost menu highlight on the menu bar and the contextual menu (via right click on files and folders) My system is running OS 10.5.2. I've already tried fixing disk permissions. It's like my mouse has gone into stealth mode. Interface can no longer detect my cursor is hovering over them. E.g. Hovering over a web link doesn't highlight that it's a link and status bar below doesn't print the url address of that link. Last thing I could remember was telling Opera 9.25 to give me a pop up regarding web cookies. That's when I lost menu highlight.

OS X :: How To Highlight And Move Multiple Files To External HDD

May 25, 2007

I can't figure out how to highlight and move multiple files from my local hard drive to an external drive. Is this simply not possible with Apple's OS? Seems too ridiculous for that to be the case. I can move individual files by Command+dragging the file, but it won't let me do that with multiple files.

I can move the parent folder, with the contents, but that's not what I want to do, since I only want some of the files within it. What I've been doing so far is highlighting and copying the multiple files and then deleting the originals afterwards. But this is a major time waster for me. This must be possible, how could they make an OS that doesn't allow this?
