On a daily basis we install a number of machines with our standard selection of software.
At present we use a command line script to to do this but we would like to know if there is another way to create an automated process to install a number of apps as opposed to installing each application manually.

I ran disk utility today and received a message stating: "This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc) and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk. I check the box my mid 2010 MacBook Pro came in and there is no disk. I am currently running OS X 10.6.8. I have tried searching online to find instructions for creating or downloading a Mac OS X installation disk, but my search has not been successful. How do I create or where can I download the correct Mac OS X installation disk so that I can make the repair?

Every day NASA puts up an "Image of the Day" Sometimes it is a really cool nightscape, sometimes it is great hubble photography, etc... I've been opening up the page every day and right clicking on the new image and saving it to a folder. Is there a way to automate this?
I'd love for my computer to automatically go to the page with the new image on it and save it to a folder. Sometimes I jsut don't have the time to get over to the page, or I jsut simply forget. Is there a way to automate this process?

I was wondering whether anyone out there knows how to turn the mac automated speech voices to an audio track that can be used in a video. By the automated speech I mean the ones where you can type in what you want it to say, you can choose a voice, (I think one is called alex), then right click and click start speaking. I want to use this as an audio track in a video.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to fix an issue I had for a while with a automator script I want to use. I added several things it should do, test it, and it works fine. I use it usually as an workflow. But I tried to implement it through an iCal event! Which does not work. (and I checked already in preferences if the turn off all iCal alarms is unchecked) I the workflow basically to open when I first fire up the MacBook, but only once, not when I start it up again later n the day. So I thought about adding the workflow to the startup, but that would open it every time I start my MacBook. How can I get around that? By a iCal event? If yes, how can I fix it, that it starts not at a specific time (I don't start my computer at the same time every day) but when I first open it.

I have just bought my first Mac and finding iTunes limiting. I am running a Windows XP desktop, laptop and OSX 10.5 MacPro laptop. I then have a Western Digital World Book 500GB NAS with a share holding all my music so that it is centralized. I have setup iTunes so that it's default library is the WD NAS Share "Music" and deselected the option to copy to local library. The Mac is my wife's computer so I will not be adding new music through its iTunes, but from my XP Desktop to the drive mapping "MUSIC" (simple cut and paste). My frustration is that I can manually import (using iTunes) the contents from "MUSIC".
But any new songs I add to the share "MUSIC" from outside of iTunes will not be recognized/added in the iTunes library without doing another manual import of the new file/folder. I have seen a post for sync'ing two iTunes libraries, which may or may not be possible to sync'd Mac iTunes with Windows iTunes through shares, but I really prefer not to go this route and currently using iTunes only on the Mac. Is there a script or plug-in for Leopard or iTunes that will monitor for changes on the ntwork share then add the new songs to iTunes's libary automatically? Maybe I am thinking to far outside of the box? By the way I do work in the IT field so I am willing to do some more "duct-taping" to make this work
I have just set up our G5 Mac's on our Windows Domain, I have enabled IMAP on Exchange Server 2003 and configured Mac Mail accordingly. Mac Mail can now send and receive messages and attachment just fine but when a sent message fails you do not receive the automated delivery failure notification from the System Administrator. If the Mac operator uses Outlook Web Access or a PC using IMAP to check his Inbox then the automated messages are displayed fine but Mac Mail refuses to pick them up. I am new to Mac's and would appreciate some advice, I have checked the Junk mail and they are not there either.

They do not assist with connection problems. Result: No AppStore for me. So How do I upgrade to Lion? All articles about Lion recovery assume that you have an internet connection. I have news: not every internet connection counts as an internet connection as far as Apple is concerned. Funny thing is, that all updates to Leopard and Snow Leopard went without problems.Â

i'm getting rid of my cable internet ISP. they place i have moved in, in India, is not a metropolitan region and there is just a terribly bad internet serivce here via cable. Disconnections to slow speed to high cost. so now i'm planning to move to 3G internet and use it all the time via my iphone 4. Â
the obvious problem is that that while 3g in this area isn't slow or intermittent, its still very costly. so i cannot afford to make a 4.5 gb download of os x lion (and mountain lion in future) everytime i have to clan install the OS. and unfortunately, this year i had to do it nearly thrice. back in the days of leopard and snow leopard this was like NEVER! anyway, So now i want to download LION while i'm still on cable internet and back it up on a usb stick or a dvd.

I wanted to do a clean install of Lion and change the name of my disc so I booted in Recovery Mode and erased my disc. When I install lion, it goes through everything and I wait the full 2 hours or so for it to download and install but right at the very end it says an error occurred while installing the mac os x and then I get the rainbow pinwheel and am required to shut down my mac by holding the power button. I am currently booted from an external hard drive as this is my only connection to the internet. I really want to get Lion to work on my internal drive. I just partitioned out my internal into 2 partitions (I read something about that?) and I'm going to give the install another go.

I have my 15" MacBook Pro, Mid-2010 model, which had Snow Leapord and then from the AppStore I had upgraded the OS to Lion.Now I'd like to have a clean installation of Lion. I have few constraints and have already tried few options but without luck. From the AppStore I downloaded the OS Lion (from Purchases) and I saw a note about create a bootable DVD and have created one. I tried the following...Â
Problem #1 : My MBP wouldn't boot off the DVD. It just keeps spinning.
Problem #2 : I then tried restarting and then choosing "Options" while coming up to choose the Disk. Again it just spins.
Problem #3 : I chose "Command R" for recovery mode but it again tries to download OS Lion afresh and that's not an option for me right now (I'm not in USA now, but in India. No high bandwidth connection)Â How can I do a fresh installation of Lion?Â

I have a Western Digital MyBook 1 TB external USB drive that has worked fine for years. I used it a day and a half ago under 10.7.3 with absolutely no problems. I then upgraded to 10.7.4, and now the drive won't mount. It spins up for a second or two, then powers off. Do I have a borked installation of 10.7.4? Would a simple re-install fix the problem? It seems highly unlikely to me that the drive just happened to silently die in the interim between its last use and the 10.7.4 install... What's going on?

ok, so i have a black macbook. im not sure what year, maybe 08 or 09. at first i tried installing lion via usb. i installed it onto a 8gb flash drive, inserted it into the computer, botted up, held the option key, and EFI Boot option appears. i click on it and i get the circle slash symbol. so i tried installing it onto a dvd and no luck. same result. I've done this several times before with other computers and its worked fine.

I'm trying to install OS X mavericks but I have to install Lion first to install mavericks later, Here is it, I startup at disk utility, could never fix it, but it tells me to install Lion instead of mavericks, so I go ahead and try to install Lion, The Progress bar shows it's at the end and its done, but the time goes to atleast 2 minutes, then jumps back to 30 min or more, I kept it over night, still nothing, how can I fix that?! I also tried USB Didn't work, and no I don't have the CD if I did I would've used it.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've got this older iMac but it has 2 GB and few weeks ago I managed to install Lion on a second partition of the internal HD. Sometimes the computer would hang or cause problems and I decided to install the whole system from scratch. After several failed attemps I finally figured, that the internal HD had a defect. So I decided to use an external usb drive to fix that problem for the beginning and before I think about changing the internal hard drive. I created 3 partitions with a GUID-table on the external usb drive and managed to install Leopard on the first partition and so far it's working fine and I boot from that external usb drive.Â
Now I wanted to install Lion on that computer. So I took that Lion thumb stick I purchased from apple and pressed the option key during boot in order to select booting from the thumb stick. It worked for the beginning and a message like "Installation" appeared. After a while the installation would stop with a message like "an error occured during installation, please try again". I did this two times but it never finished the installation.

I recently re-installed my Lion by using the Lion Online Recovery thing. Works fine so far, but I got one problem..That my iLife suite is missing makes sense, since iLife does not come with Lion itself. My iLife was preinstalled on my MBP and I had to accept the Apps in the AppStore back then.
Now, after the reinstallation iPhoto does not show up in my purchases, just GarageBand and iMovie. If I'm trying to search for iPhoto in the AppStore, it says, that my App is already accepted and must show up in my purchases, but it does not. How can I resolve this issue? Without iPhoto I can't use my photostream.
