OS X V10.7 Lion :: Finder Has A Small Purple Line Above The Icon?
May 20, 2012
My finder icon has had a purple line over the top of it since i can remember (got the macbook the christmas just gone) just wondering if anyone knows whats caused this or if its a well known problem ?
Wasn't this an option previous to 10.7.4? It doesn't work now. When clicking the Finder icon in the Dock, a new Finder window would open? I know about Finder prefs - General - Always open folders in new window but this isn't what I mean.I'd have a Finder window open then want to copy/move something so I clicked on the Finder icon in the dock to get a new window.Every time I clicked the Dock icon, I'd get a new Finder window.
So today I noticed a small black bar on the corner of my screen. I tried to get a screen shot of it, but i couldn't, like it was off the screen. However, my mouse dissapears under it when i move it there. It is a little hard to distinguish because it is the 2.4 ghz macbook aluminum, glossy screen so it has the black surrounding it, but it is definably there. This all along the right hand edge of the screen.
Although there is a chance it may have always been there, I am not so sure. I think there are lines along the top and left hand sides, but they are much smaller. again it is hard to tell. I am fairly sure that there is none on the bottom of screen. Is this normal, or what? I have applecare, and I didn't do anything to my macbook. Although it is getting me a little OCDish, and is slightly annoying, and I know these things on the screen tend to expand.
i got a screen scratch on my Computer about 4 months ago and it is now bothering me. I want to remove it because well... i have some OCD and i would love to see a clear screen. Its just a small 3mm hair line scratch but i would like it gone. Because on white it makes a Kind of Rainbow effect. Now i've seen 2 methods i think that could work. One is using a Combination of Tooth paste a Petroleum Jelly... while another is using Nail Polish Remover to buff it out. Link: [URL]
When I started my Mac today the icon from the Finder in the Dock was away.Â
What have I done yet? Repaired the disk persmissions.Deleted the .plist file from the Dock and restarted it. What can I else do? All users on the computer have the same problem.
i was wondering if anyone can tell me why the mac HD icon that i have on my desktop wont show up in my finder>desktop page. other apps that i have on the desktop show up on the desktop page but the mac HD icon is not there.
How do you change the icons in the Finder's sidebar? For no apparent reason, Apple took away the ability to add custom folders or color to the sidebar, but I'm hoping for a workaround.
When I open a new Finder window, it shows "all my files".Then I click on my home in the sidebar. Then Finder shows my home, but *always* in list view.I open View Options, and check "Always open in icon view". But some time later, when I go to my home in some Finder window, it shows my home in list view again.I haven't found a pattern yet, unfortunately.
Just recently Finder has stopped behaving as it normally would. Clicking the icon doesn't seem to launch the finder window. I have to right click the finder icon and then click New Finder Window. Sometimes there is no response for sometime and then finally it does open a window. If I click finder when a window is open it does not shift focus to finder anymore.

after repairing disk permissions using the Apple OS Disk Utility and/or verifying "Sharing & Permissions" in the "Get Info" window of a drive, all connected hard drives on the system will suddenly have a small lock icon on the lower left corner of the drive icon. "Custom" is what appears in the "Get Info" window in the "Sharing & Permissions" for both System and Admin users and they can't be changed. The drives won't open when clicked on saying something about "you don't have correct permissions or privileges to access this drive".
Rebooting, creating new users, repairing Disk permissions and/or repair disk in Disk Utility, Disk Warrior, booting from another drive and even booting from an Apple OS installer disk have no effect on the locked drives, I can't get to them......................
I'm sure this has been discussed before but... what are those four little symbols in the lower left of a Finder window? Clicking on them doesn't seem to do anything.
Soo...I just picked up a mini to run plex and use as a media center. Hooking it up to my projector via VGA cable. When I set the display settings to the native resolution on the projector there is a small black line or bar down the left hand side of the screen. Not on the right but only on the left. why this would be happening?
I'm running 10.6.2 on my Rev A 13" MBP and have noticed an oddity in Finder over the last couple of months (I'm not sure when it started). If I have Finder open in Column View, I used to be able to choose a jpg and it would show a small preview in the final column of Finder.
Now, it shows the word Preview with the triangle to open and close the preview, along with the file information, but no actual preview. It's the same in Get Info on the file in question. I've tried switching Icon Preview on and off in View Options, I've tried moving the Finder plist file to the desktop and restarting the machine.
Today I tried to change the finder icon in the dock. Because I'm cheap, I dont have candybar, so I tried to use liteicon. While this changed the finder icon in messages like "do you want to empty trash," it did not change it on the dock, even after logging out and relaunching the dock.
So I went into a bunch of core services and replaced all the finder .icns and .pngs with the one I wanted to use. When I relaunched the dock, the finder was invisible, but it still had the little blue "open" dot below where it was.I downloaded the candybar trial to try to fix it, but even candybar didn't get the icon back.
I'm using 10.5.8. Where are all the places the finder icon should be to show up?
When I am scouring the finder for files, I find it difficult not to see a thumb of each file folder and have to fiddle with the choices at the top. Is there a way to have maximum visibility of the contents of finder? Or Is there an application that works better than finder?

I am not installing anything, but after i boot up my iMac this show up. Only thing I can do about it is to remove launcher icon from dock and than put it back on. how to remove this line permanently?
What is the significance of the purple and green colours when I put music to my project? I am able to edit the "green" music but NOT the purple music. Is it possible to do panarama/photomerge in iPhoto?
We're hunting for a small printer for a crowded office space. There's a not much desk space or shelf space.
Only need something to print. No scanning, faxing or other functions! Hoping we can get Canon that is compatible with the inkjet 40 and 41 cartridges as we already have a printer that uses those.
This may seem like a really silly question, but how do you change the icon for finder? I can't seem to get to the 'get info' bit to change it. I can do it for everything else, just not finder!
