OS X V10.7 Lion :: Dock Is Frozen As It Was When Start Computer
Apr 17, 2012
It does not register when new programs are opened. They open, but there is no indicator light under them. Programs that are not open anymore still have an indicator light. Also, I don't have any notifications for email or other messaging programs even though I do have new emails and messages.

Sometimes when I turn on my computer, the start up screen comes on and then I can't do anything. I cannot move the pointer on my trackpad on my MacBook. It's just a frozen screen.

I've noticed that in Snow Leopard when you minimize, for example a Quick Time movie to the Dock, the movie doesn't carry on playing like it used to. Instead it shows a freeze-frame of the last part of the movie before it was minimized. It's not an important feature but I was wondering about the reason for this change.

I got a message to install the latest security update, but the updater froze when I told it to install. Now I cannot start any new applications or processes (activities like copying files, emptying trash, etc. don't work) The apps which were running before are still working (but once closed, will not re-open) I dare not restart or put the computer to sleep. (Possibly software update freezing was a symptom rather than the cause - it is consistent with processes failing to start) I guess this means a system file has been corrupted, but without a working copy/paste and no terminal I don't know what I can do about it. All I have is a browser (firefox) and finder running. Is there any way I can recover the system?

Ive been having some issues with my monitors going black during working, it happens on the mac side but more often on through bootcamp running windows 7.
It also has been getting a frozen start up screen at the apple logo. All the times it does start up i do hear the start up chime. I have tried to reset pram and smc but that does not seem to solve the problem, Ive also run a check using techtool pro v6 and it has come up with no issues.Â
Ive recently upgraded my graphics card to the nvidia quadro 4000, ive read the issues with card in the past but since the lion release its become better supported i thought not sure if thats the problem or something with the mac pro itself, i have updates the cards drivers for both windows and mac. Im currently running 3 OS, OSX 10.6.8, Lion and windows 7 (bootcamp)Â
My system specs areÂ
2.66 GHz 6 Core

I recently loaded Lion on my Imac. I have listed two programs for automatic log-on. But 3 other apps automatically log-on as well (Firefox, Mail, Word), even though they are not on the auto log-on list at all. How do I preven them from logging on when I start the computer?

My iMac G5 froze. I restarted it manually, but it kept freezing on a blue screen without loading the OS. It can start up fine in safe mode, but that's it! I've tried repairing permissions and zapping the PRAM.
Finally I resorted to an Archive & Install. That didn't work so I did a clean install but that didn't help either. After having done everything under the sun to it to get it to work, it will still only start up in safe mode. I even tried starting up off each of my two external fire wire drives with no luck (it froze on the fire wire screen with both drives - a Maxtor and a Western Digital). I am thinking that something on the mother board has died so that normal booting is prevented but safe mode booting is allowed.

I am not a computer technician. However, I believe my computer has a virus. It has some sychadelic pattern that is present when I start it up and will not let me access anything. This is the first time in six years that this has happened. If I can "dump" everything and then start from scratch, that would be OK. I just want my laptop to work again-I need it for school.

I have a MacBook Pro, running Lion. My laptop seems to have slowed down in terms of opening programs, and often, Finder will get stuck with the spinning ball. I also have an external hard drive attached to the laptop, and accessing the external often brings up the spinning ball.Â
The external drive has a capacity of 299.72 GBÂ Â Â Â and 191.97 GBÂ Â Â Â is how much is free.Â
For the laptop, the numbers are 249.07 GB capacity and 184.34 GB free. I regularly run the Disk Utility to check/repair permissions. Is there any way to determine why things are running slow, and/or if I need a new external drive?Â

I have a 2006 MBP (that may or may not be the problem) that freezes when I do anything. It happened sort of gradually. First, I was just getting the spinny rainbow when I had too many windows open or something. Then, it started just happening just because, sometimes only a couple minutes after my last restart. Now, I can't even open certain programs with it crashing right away (Safari, iTunes, iChat, Software Update.)
Safari doesn't even really open, it bounces in the dock then just sits there without being highlighted, but makes my computer absolutely unresponsive. I am able to use firefox (which I'm using right now, this is my only computer), but it won't be before long that I see the spiny rainbow again.
Stuff I've done so far that hasn't worked: Reformatted
Took to 'genius bar' who could only tell me that I may need a new HD
Installed new HD

have currently been away from home for nearly four months now, and on three different occasions, I've needed to ask a friend from back home to visit my house and force-restart my computer because I was no longer able to access it via LogMeIn because my home computer had frozen for one reason or another.
I need to find some sort of a fail-safe method for remotely force restarting home my computer when I am in a pinch, without the need for a friend to visit my house.

I sometimes need access to my work computer while traveling or even at home. I have found occasionally that my work computer is frozen at a time when I want access. I have set up a IP-address power strip that I can remotely cycle that will allow me to shut it down.

I've been getting frequent warnings that the Dashboard Client has unexpectedly quit, but Dashboard itself continued to work until yesterday. Now, however, it doesn't respond - it's frozen at 2pm yesterday according to the clock.Â
I've trashed the dashboard plist and dashboard client plist from Preferences, but to no effect. The dashboard plist recreates itself, but the dashboard client plist does not recreate itself, so there is no longer anything there in Preferences for me to trash in this respect.Â

When my IMac goes to sleep, the screen saver is "frozen". The only way to get to my login accounts is by "cleaning" the screen with my mouse. It's as though the screen is not refreshing itself after going to sleep and whatever the last image was, it stays. However, it's not locked up or anything. I just need to move my mouse around over the login accounts and it slowly clears away the screen saver so I can see where to click to log in. I've tried disabling the screen saver, but have the same results. Something is causing the last image to freeze on the screen when the monitor sleeps.

My macbook desktop is frozen, only desktop. Everything else works fine. I logged into my other account on the computer I have, the desktop is fine, I can right click the desktop and it will bring the menu up, however, on the side that I use frequently, I cannot right click on the desktop, NOR can I drag anything to the desktop. All my software is up to date, I tried booting up in safe mode, I also used the force quit and relaunch, restarted computer many times, still nothing. Also weird about this is that itunes deleted itself earlier today, I had to re-download and install it again. The problem is happening since then. Finally, I read somewhere I may need to re-boot my computer with the lion CD; however, I don't have the CD I downloaded from the app store!

My software update is frozen and I cant get it off. I can't quit the update and I tried restarting it but every time I try it says to try later because the update is running. So I have tried letting the battery die thinking that would restart it but when it started back up again the update was still stuck. The loading bar is still up there and is solid not moving strips. What can I do to quit the update?
