I have the Macbook Pro 13" OS.X. Lion and can't change my desktop background [it's frozen to what I changed it to almost a month ago]. I've looked to drag out the "com.apple.systempreferences etc" file but I can't find it in my Library>Preferences.

My macbook desktop is frozen, only desktop. Everything else works fine. I logged into my other account on the computer I have, the desktop is fine, I can right click the desktop and it will bring the menu up, however, on the side that I use frequently, I cannot right click on the desktop, NOR can I drag anything to the desktop. All my software is up to date, I tried booting up in safe mode, I also used the force quit and relaunch, restarted computer many times, still nothing. Also weird about this is that itunes deleted itself earlier today, I had to re-download and install it again. The problem is happening since then. Finally, I read somewhere I may need to re-boot my computer with the lion CD; however, I don't have the CD I downloaded from the app store!

Suddenly on start up from sleep mode I have prior windows of my email client and my browser (Entourage and Chrome) frozen. I have both of these set as start up items and new versions will open and are operative but the old windows for both remain like a screen shot. Along the menu bar is a 'ghost' image-a menu bar in faded gray and slightly blurred- behind the exiting one that is operable. I have repaired permissions, re set pram...it will not go away or move. I am on mcp OS 10.7.3. Have not installed anything newm in last few days.

Ive ran multiple different types of terminal searches for this "flashback" Trojan worm/virus that's going around. I've also searched for com.apple.systempreference.plist and it's not in there at all. I've done safe mode and everything else. I do not have a wallpaper HD lite, I am OUT of options, and I really don't want to have to re install Lion. Can someone PLEASE tell me something, other than those options?

Tried updating and restarting, did not work. Would there be any files or settings I have interfering with this?

For some reason, every time I turn my mac off, the desktop background changes. It always returns to the same picture, which was the second or third thing I changed my desktop to after getting my mac. Â
I have background switching unchecked in my preferences, and I have never selected it as an option. Also, when I go to my preferences, it will show the icon of the picture I changed it to, even though the desktop itself has switched back. Â

I have Lion I have Aperture 3. Â
I set the desktop background picture to photos on Aperture through right mouse clicking to "change destop background".
All the photos fhrough Aperture are present. I click the photo and it changes. I also use the screen saver using aperture photos. All of these photos are on an external drive and has been working flawlessly with Lion on my older imac.
Last week I bought a new imac with Lion. Everything is working the same as above except for when I shut down the imac. When I boot it back up, the mac supplied image of the milky way appears and the photo I had on the desktop prior to shutting down has been replaced by this.Â
The external is mounted and the screen saver after 5 minutes will show my Aperture photos....it is just the desktop photo that has been replaced..Â

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just set my background to rotate between the pictures in a folder and every time I restart the computer, I am stuck with a generic blue background (not in my pictures folder, mind you!).
I just have to right click/change destkop background, unselect the folder and then reselect and it comes back.
Whenever I try to right click on the desktop and click "change desktop background" it just plays the error sound. And theres no longer an option for it in system preferences. The only way I can change it is if I select an image from the internet, and right click on it, and select "set as.."

If I change the desktop background in the interval of every one minute, will it have a impact on battery life? I notice there's even an option for every 5 seconds. Surely, Apple must feel confident in the battery life of the MBP if there is such an option. I like seeing a new image every so often, but don't want to sacrifice too much battery. What do you feel is the best setting? Every 5 minutes? 15 min? 30 min? 1 hour?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a bunch of photos that I'd like to be able to use as my desktop background - all are saved on my computer with the correct "portrait" orientation, but when I open system preferences they weirdly show up in "landscape" orientation. I've tried everything I can think of (saving them under different names, selecting and deselecting the exif orientation tag box, etc). Nothing works. The photos still show up sideways in the preferences panel.Â

Is there a way to move the desktop background when choosing the "Fill Screen" option? I have a portrait oriented picture of two standing people with their faces being near the top. When I set this picture as the background and chose "Fill Screen" it zooms in to the center of the picture, which is at chest level. Is there any way to move the picture up so it focuses on the faces, sort of like when chosing a Facebook profile picture?

I have a base 15" mbp 2010 model. I wanted to restart my laptop several times and this happened about twice now. I had to force shutdown by holding the power button, but this can't be healthy for it. Here's what happens, I go to apple>restart and then my desktop icons and taskbar, finder bar goes all away so that only my desktop background is showing, and it stays there. I can still move the cursor with my trackpad but me being new to macs, i don't know any keyboard shortcuts to bring up the activity monitor and stuff. Is something wrong with my macbook pro?

A couple other times my icons are moved over about 3 inches like the desktop starts there but the other things, windows and taskbar, are in the same spot. All other programs and dock are fine. Whenever I wanted to change my desktop background, it would change immediately no problem but once I shut down or restarted my mac, it would revert back to the original background. Somewhere I read that by deleting com.apple.desktop.plist this problem could be solved. I did that and bingo it solved the problem! When i log onto my old eMac under my profile, it loads the wallpaper and the toolbar but nothing else. Whenever the mouse passes over the desktop itself, it just turns into that little pinwheel that signifies a problem. Whenever I try to use Finder, it locks the computer up completely. All applications on the toolbar work, including firefox and iTunes, but since Finder is broken I can't use things like external drives. Is there any way to get my computer to halt whatever process is confusing my poor finder without hurting my iTunes?

View 18 Replies View RelatedThe Mac OS X on the system has suddenly frozen her out of everything but the finder and the desktop. It boots fine and pops up on the desktop, and everything looks completely normal. But when you want to run an application and click on it, a big fat question mark appears over the icon in the bottom menu, no matter what application you click on. Further more it appears that all applications has been wiped from the system when you enter the applications folder. It is completely empty.
Now I've tried to click on different stuff, such as the internet, to turn it off, but nothing happens. I've also tried to enter the OSX preferences, but nothing happens when I do. At times it comes up with the message that you don't have permission to open certain programs, even though the programs apparently dont exist on the Mac. I've interrogated my girlfriend about her activity, and she swears she has done nothing out of the ordinary like download shady software or anything, and apparently all of this has come like lightning from a clear sky.
