In all the screenshots I see of Energy Save.prefpane, I notice that people have a "Better Battery Life" setting or something similar. However, my Energy Saver looks like this (screenshot below). Why is this? Anyway to change it if it is actually different and incorrect?

Ive ran multiple different types of terminal searches for this "flashback" Trojan worm/virus that's going around. I've also searched for com.apple.systempreference.plist and it's not in there at all. I've done safe mode and everything else. I do not have a wallpaper HD lite, I am OUT of options, and I really don't want to have to re install Lion. Can someone PLEASE tell me something, other than those options?

I just install Lion 10.7 from scratch using a bootable DVD I made from the Install Mac OS X Install ESD Dmg found within the app. After restoring my accounts and data from a time machine backup, everything seems to work fine except for 3 preference panes within the System Preferences, (Desktop & Screen Saver, Energy Saver, and Spotlight.) I've tried reinstalling Lion over the current installation, I've tried reinstalling the latest combo update, I've trying repairing disk permissions, I've tried installing System Preferences app as well as each individual .prefpane, none of which worked. When trying to run the preference pane I get:Â
"Preferences Error. Could not load Desktop & Screen Saver preference pane." Replace Desktop & Screensaver part with Energy Saver and Spotlight respectively for each pane. When I run the preference pane, here is the output from the console:Â
3/19/12 6:13:04.765 PM System Preferences: [NSPrefPaneBundle instantiatePrefPaneObject] (/System/Library/PreferencePanes/DesktopScreenEffectsPref.prefPane): principalClass is nil.Â
All three give the same error, again replacing DesktopScreenEffectsPref.prefpane with the corresponding pane.

If I have Safari open as a window on my desktop, it will generally 'resume' (as in, most of time remember what I had open) after shutting down and booting up again. However, if I have Safari open in full-screen mode (as I prefer to), it never remembers resumes upon shutting down and booting up again; Safari is open (the little light in dock shows up) as if to say OS remembered I had Safari open, but there is no window and upon opening a new window, none of my tabs are restored.Â

Recently, I have noticed that my Macbook Pro running lion will not ever go to sleep, regardless of what values I choose on the sliders for "Computer sleep" and "Display sleep." The value to the right of the bar says "Never" no matter what. I'm wondering on how to make these values actually represent the values I choose on the slider, rather than always "Never."Â

I went in an checked the settings, all was well. Now I cannot even get the hot corner to work.

My preferences panes on my osx lion 10.7.4 macbook pro won't open directly. I can still go to spotlight and type "system preferences" and open them from there, but the following don't work:
* clicking the apple and click "system preference"
* clicking the network icon and clicking open network preferences
* goign to spotlight and typing anything but system preferences: (network preferences, displays, Keyboard, etc) They all have a blank page icon instead of a preferences icon When I do click them, an icon briefly shows up in the dock then disappears. It looks like an application that has been downloaded but not authorized. With the pencil and protractor

I installed lion, now my screen saver does not work. I have tried all the hot corners, nothing. Dashboard and mission control work fine but cannot start screen saver.
View 12 Replies View RelatedAfter waking up my computer from sleep I find that the screen saver always locks/freezes and becomes pixelated. I move my mouse around and it sort of "erases" the saver to reveal the login page underneath. This happens on my new iMac (2011) and now is starting to happen on my MacBook Air.

Installed Lion. Upgraded all 30,000 of my photos as per screen prompts. Now unable to use my Mac ANY time screen saver activates. It freezes, hangs, crashes. NEVER had any of these problems with 10.6 and, because I've "upgraded" my entire iPhoto Library (as per screen prompts) I am STUCK with this new OS!!
How can I "de-upgrade" my iPhoto library so I can revert to a system that functions?

My user's preference, seems to be corrupted. Any way to recreate it. I tried to rename the folder preferences in the library but it will not let me do it. I tried to drag it in the delete but a message tells me that it OS needs the folder. How to recreate the Preferences folder from scratch?

I have a secondary user account who's preferences will not save. I have tried making it an administrator, but that hasn't seemed to help. The dock changes oringinally weren't saving, and I deleted the plist file, but that was a one time fix. I made changes once, and it only saved them once. Also, I have an application (Steam) that has been set to open when the user signs on. I have tried removing this program both through its own preferences panel, and also through the Start-Up items menu in the user preferences on the computer, and neither one is working.

Since installing Lion, the icons on my system preferences pane have all changed to the same icon as the system preferences app. i.e just the cogs.how this may have happened and how I can revert back to the standard images please? The selections are all there, but all showing the same cog image.i have seen some previous discussions about removing apple.com/preference panes cache but I dont have it in my Library.

Is there anyway to turn off screen saver (and desktop) in using my photo library (Aperture)? Currently it is using my entire photo library as screen saver and I wanted to turn it off. Clicking on the "-" button in the Screen Saver preference pane does not remove Aperture photo library from the list. I had OS 10.7.3 installed.

I've been getting frequent warnings that the Dashboard Client has unexpectedly quit, but Dashboard itself continued to work until yesterday. Now, however, it doesn't respond - it's frozen at 2pm yesterday according to the clock.Â
I've trashed the dashboard plist and dashboard client plist from Preferences, but to no effect. The dashboard plist recreates itself, but the dashboard client plist does not recreate itself, so there is no longer anything there in Preferences for me to trash in this respect.Â

finding my preference files in the library. Now that I have found them, I notice that they are different than they were under Snow Leopard. Do I still trash some of them if I think they might be corrupted because the app is not working well or is that no longer necessary?

I guess only the screen is frozen since the computer is not automaticaly restarting and the fan are still running as usual, the only way out is the power buton. I've tried every comon tests and haven't spoted anything yet. I don't know what to do!Â

When my IMac goes to sleep, the screen saver is "frozen". The only way to get to my login accounts is by "cleaning" the screen with my mouse. It's as though the screen is not refreshing itself after going to sleep and whatever the last image was, it stays. However, it's not locked up or anything. I just need to move my mouse around over the login accounts and it slowly clears away the screen saver so I can see where to click to log in. I've tried disabling the screen saver, but have the same results. Something is causing the last image to freeze on the screen when the monitor sleeps.

It does not register when new programs are opened. They open, but there is no indicator light under them. Programs that are not open anymore still have an indicator light. Also, I don't have any notifications for email or other messaging programs even though I do have new emails and messages.
