Nov 16, 2010Mail basically is running alright, but when I type in the body of a message, it takes forever. Typing is fine in other programs, so I am at a loss for figuring this out. Since I only have been back in the Mac environment for a bit over a month, I am struggling to relearn the ins and outs of maintaining my iMac.

Feb 28, 2009So recently my mac has decided to hide my Cursor/Pointer while typing, it doesn't really bother me much when i am browsing the web, But when i start to talk to my friends online then i have problems.
So when I'm typing to a friend the IM ( MSN ) hides the cursor so after i finished typing and press Enter then the message will send then realizing i have made a mistake or want to add a quick message on to the IM then i must have to click on the type box again because it dont keep init for some reason.
So i have looked in System Preferences and can't find nothing to turn this off.

Jun 12, 2012My imac starts typing by itself it usually starts in safari and if I open any other program it will continue in that. It also continuously toggles rapidly between items in the lists of drop down menus. Other weird stuff happening too like if I put it to sleep and re-login it will delete any text I try to put in the password box.

Dec 29, 2009I am trying to see if anyone else has this problem. I am a two finger typer, but type fairly fast. I write a lot on my computer, every day. Generally, I look at the keyboard when typing. I also tend to type hard, but this issue is there even when I try to type softer.
My problem is that I'll type a paragraph and then look up to proof my text and a significant number of characters are missing. This has continued with three different systems and multiple keyboards (wired and wireless). Apparently, the problem is me, but I am still fascinated by this matter.
I spent a tremendous amount of wasted time adding characters that are missing. Given I type with two fingers, AND I stare at the keyboard, I cannot fathom how so many characters do not appear.
So far on this posting, I have had to add five missing characters. Just imagine how many corrections I have to make in a year. This single problem must cost me days of wasted time.
If you have any suggestions, I am open to anything. I have even thought of filming my typing to assure I hit each key, but could not get a good camera angle. I would need to use at least two cameras.

Feb 24, 2008Have done a search on this but only found the one post that stated the obvious to my problem. Safari keeps stalling just after http:// it stalls for a about 15 secs then carrys on with going to the address. I've reset safari done the obvious stuff used onyx.

Apr 6, 2009I've already tried basic methods of resolving this issue i.e. resetting and unplugging and replugging the keyboard and my keyboard still won't type letters or numbers. The only kind of response I get by typing the keys is the keyboard will performing shortcut commands like save and open, etc. without holding control or alt, it does it when I press the letter keys by themselves.

When I was trying out a machine in the store yesterday, I noticed I had to pay special attention to weather or not my watch (with a metal band) would scratch the palm rests. Do any of you who wear watches with metal bands have issues with scratches/damage? And no, I won't stop wearing a watch or switch to a band made of silk to accommodate the MBP.

OS X :: Typing A Backslash Sometimes Causes Safari To Quit?
Oct 12, 2009I have hit the key accidently instead of return and poof, Safari quits unexpectedly. Forward slashes are no problem but Backslashes cause an instant quit. It doesn't happen all the time, but just today I hit the key accidently and Safari quit. I reloaded it up again and the first thing I did was type a backslash. Again instant quit. Upon trying it again, it didn't quit.
The Backslash must be typed in the Google search box to cause the sudden quit.

MacBook Pro :: Warm Gloves That Allow Typing?
Feb 3, 2010The Mac Lab at my school has terrible temperature regulation. It's in the basement of an open floor plan building, and during the winter it gets so bad in there that my fingers go numb. Obviously these are not ideal conditions when you are trying to work with a keyboard, a mouse and a wacom for hours on end. I'm wondering, does anybody own or know of a pair of gloves that happen to be thin enough to allow for typing yet still keep your hands warm?
I tried googling for a bit but all I could find were gloves with the fingertips cut off. I think I must have poor circulation in my hands or something because my fingers and toes seem to stay cold most of the winter regardless of how warm my body is. And working on a computer in a cold room just makes it exponentially worse of course.

May 14, 2012I'm thinking about buying a 13 inch Macbook Pro because I'm tired of hardware and software issues with PC's.I'm a writer and currently own a Lenovo U300s that has a very large, glass touchpad like the Macbooks.While typing, my palms or thumbs will brush up against the touchpad and cause the cursor to jump around on the page.It makes writing very difficult.Has anyone experienced this with the Pro (or Air) thirteen inch, and how to do you get around it?

OS X :: Reassigning Alt (Option) Keys For Typing Symbols
Jan 7, 2011On my old windows PC, in word I used to be able to type symbols just as if I was typing letters. Not randomly, I custom assigned each symbol I used a lot to each letter. I type a lot of symbols in my scientific notes. If I clicked control shift: ABD where alpha beta delta, 1-9 was subscript 1-9 (for chemical formulas), and I had a load more. I used the so often I could touch type them just like any other letter.
I want to do the same thing on my mac, so I can type the symbols. I have noticed that the alt key does bring up the symbols, but they are very strange and not very useful. I dont need to type a "grave" symbol very often, but alpha all the time (but there is no alpha). And they aren't assigned to my logical letter (beta to B). How do I reassign the alt keys to my symbol, surely there is an easy way, but I have looked and not found one.
OS X :: Spell Check While Typing Not Working In Certain Programs?
Oct 28, 2008For the past few weeks (maybe months) I've been experiencing a problem with my spell check while typing feature. Up until this evening I could even have it checked off in Adium, but after I downloaded the MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.5 file (something someone suggested in another thread) the spelling options are all greyed out completely. I have restarted Adium a few times to try to fix it to no avail.
The checker works fine in Safari, but when I use Adium it doesn't work. I found a thread on another site that suggested moving one of the Dictionary files to the desktop, and also holding option, command, p and r down at the same time. That second tip seemed to work a while ago, but since then I can't get it to work again.
I read somewhere that the spell check was messed up because of one of the recent apple updates. I feel like I've had it in other programs too I just can't think of them at the moment.

Jan 30, 2009I was just wondering if my backlight was LED. I wonder how much it will dim over the next couple of years and if keeping it turned down will make it's ability to go bright, when needed last longer. I sometimes turn it up all the way to illuminate the keyboard when typing in low light.
