MacBook :: Illuminate Keyboard When Typing In Low Light ... LED?
Jan 30, 2009
I was just wondering if my backlight was LED. I wonder how much it will dim over the next couple of years and if keeping it turned down will make it's ability to go bright, when needed last longer. I sometimes turn it up all the way to illuminate the keyboard when typing in low light.
I just got a 2.33 GHz 15" MBP and I'm trying to make the keyboard light up. How do I do it? The manual says that F8-F10 should control illumination, but they don't seem to do anything. Do I need to turn something on in Sys Prefs?
I have a MacBook Pro 13-inch, Mid 2009 with OSX Lion 10.7.3 I just find out that my keyboard is not lighting. F5 and F6 are not working either and if I go to system preferences there is no Iluminate checkbox too.
Yesterday, I bought a new 60W Macbook charger. Today, I charged my Macbook and when I turned it on, the keyboard was typing in foreign letters. Restarting didn't help.
first of all everytime I unplug my USB external keyboard then plug it back in, it does the malfunction where it keeps typing the letter f. what is going on, and how can i fix this? fyi, the f key doesn't work when pressed either, and The keyboard on the actual macbook works fine.
The keyboard of my macbook air 11´ is typing symbols instead of letters and so I´m not able to introduce my password. I tried to enter as a guest and to Change the Settings or the language but the Problem remains.
I have a MacbookPro - it's just over a year old. I mostly use it for graphics, but lately I've been having trouble with the keyboard - it intermittently stops typing. This problem occurs across all programs in which I use the keyboard. If I leave it alone for a few minutes it will start typing again, but obviously this is very inconvenient.

I just got this new 17" powerbook two months ago. Everything seemed fine until this past weekend when I tried to do some work on it. No matter the program, Word, Quark etc., whenever i go to type in sentences or paragraphs, suddenly the cursor will jump to another area of the paragraph. There seems to be no consistency and I can't figure the cause.
I checked all the preferences and that doesn't seem to change it.
Could I have a faulty keyboard? Has anyone else heard of this and know what to do.
The MacBook has starting typing everything in caps, even the number keys are printing shifted characters. The caps lock key seems to be functioning normally, so I don't believe that is the cause.

I have a Macbook Pro 13in. It is not a retina. I just bought it from apple. Anyway it works fine I just noticed one thing about the keyboard and I'm sort of new to macs.
OK so the backlight on the keyboard times out after 5 sec (that's what I have it set to) the thing is the light will come back on after it times out when you move the mouse or touch the trackpad, but not if you start typing. I noticed that shift, fn, control, alt/options, and Fkeys will bring it back. The peculiar thing though is that while I'm typing, that will keep the light on. Soon as i stop for 5 sec won't just turn on if I start typing again, gotta hit one of those keys or touch the pad.
I could just set the timer longer, but idk seems like a minor flaw. Unfortunately I can kind of see that, however there does seem to be hotkeys. Just as long as one could customize them, maybe add the entire keyboard.

I used to just closed my Mac instead of pressing the shutdown button; I tried this time but I cannot shut it down anymore, also my keyboard cannot control the volume or turn on the keyboard-light. Also I remember there is like a back-up shortcut (or something like that don't know what is it exactly named) consisting of three keyboard button.
I've already tried basic methods of resolving this issue i.e. resetting and unplugging and replugging the keyboard and my keyboard still won't type letters or numbers. The only kind of response I get by typing the keys is the keyboard will performing shortcut commands like save and open, etc. without holding control or alt, it does it when I press the letter keys by themselves.
i started my imac 10.6.2 this morning and for the first time it has asked me for my password, which is fine, but the keyboard will not work, i just get that 'bonging' sound when i type. can anyone help as i am effectively locked out of my own system and am using a friends laptop.
I started having an issue with my iMac typing in the letter 'V' in any field, whether in a browser or in a window even after I've unplugged the keyboard. I've tried restarting several times, but it's getting worse to the point that I can't even type my password in b/c strings of the letter 'V' keep erroring out each field. The letter 'V' isn't stuck in the keyboard, my keyboard doesn't need to be cleaned, I've run a disk repair and no errors are coming up. I had to type this from a different computer otherwise the entire message would have had "v's" typed throughout!

I have a friend that has a handicap daughter, and she has bluetooth on her wheel chair. She is able to pair the wheelchair with her moms MacBook. We need some help with a couple of things.
1) Is there a virtual onscreen keyboard like on windows that she can use on snow leopard?
2) Is there a built in voice program that can recognize her speech vs mousing to type everything.
3) If not can you recommend some software to accomplish this.
I recently switched my MAC OS X over to Windows XP however now I am noticing that some of the keyboard buttons aren't what they should be and I am unable to do such things are a simple question make this is what happens when I do ? doesn't looking like a question mark to me.
My two-year-old daughter was messing with the keyboard on my iMac, and now the keys on the keyboard are not functioning as they were before. The delete key doesn't work, "a" types a symbol-topped "a" followed by the copyright symbol, etc...
I've restores the factory settings to the function keys in system preferences, but the problem persists.
Yesterday my keyboard would light up, but today when I hit the F5/F6 keys to light up the keys, It won't light them, and it will show the icon with a no sign.
on January 2012 I bought a new macbook pro for about a month now my keyboard has been having problems as in some days it will work and some days the icon will have an x through it when i try lighting up the keyboard. I really don't know why this is happening and how I can get this fixed
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4), nothing was spilt on it
I've recently noticed that my MPB Keyboard's light won't turn off automatically. I've checked System Performances > Keyboard, it should turn off after 5 seconds. but it doesn't do that.

After working fine for a few weeks, the keyboard backlight suddenly doesn't work anymore. When I press F6 (more light) I get the on screen box, but it won't go up beyond 0 and a circle with a line through it is displayed below the indicator/status.
I Had my light up keyboard on then it just turned off. Then when i went to press the f6 button the logo came up but with a slash through it. Why cant i turn it on? It has been on every time i use my computer
I've had my Apple bluetooth keyboard for over a year now, but two days ago I started having some problems with it. Whenever I turn it on, the green light is on for like a second and then it's off, but nothing happens after that (it's supposed to blink a couple times before it connects). I tried changing batteries and everything I could think of, but haven't figured out a way to get it to work again.
