OS X V10.7 Lion :: Can Encrypt Mail Folder
Feb 9, 2012
I'd like to encrypt my Mail folder in my Library. Is this possible? I'm not worried about other users on my mac, but if it is stolen, I'd like to know my emails cannot be accessed. I have TrueCrypt which I've used for files that I have created. It is quick and easy. But I'm not sure if this is compatible with an application like Mail which has a default file system. I've also hear that there may be issues later with mail if you try and search for emails once you've encrypted the folder.Â

I have about 2TB of data on an external hard drive, which is connected by Firewire cable to my MacBook Pro. I am running Lion 10.7. One folder (and ONLY one folder) on the external drive contains documents with private data. I want to encrypt the folder, but not the entire hard drive. I tried System Utilities > New Image to create an encrypted disk image, but it seems to want to encrypt the entire image instead of just one folder. how to encrypt just one folder and the documents it contains, either with a proprietary Apple tool or with a reliable 3rd party tool?Â

I would really love some help with this; I've been banging my head against the wall trying to achieve something that is seemingly so simple and basic.Â
We want to use an Email app that will allow us to encrypt only ONE email folder. Access to the rest of the email should be open to all users of the computer, just the one folder needs to be encrypted or password protected. Apparently this is not possible in Outlook, because in Outlook for Mac all of the folders are now integrated into one database and so cannot be encrypted individually as they can on PC. Â
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to achieve this? I am considering using Mac's Mail, but can't find Mail file structure on my Lion machine to see if I can access the individual mailboxes separately. Does anyone know where to find Mail's folder structure? I looked in the Library but found nothing for Mail, as it used to be in previous OSs. Am open to third party software work arounds, other email clients, whatever.

I would like to encrypt only one of the accounts I have associated with MacMail. To do this, I plan to create a new disk image using disk utlity, then dragging the particular Mail account to that folder. Since I don't want to encrypt all accounts, I'm not sure what folders I ought to put into my new encrypted drive image.Â
In the "homelibrarymailV2" folder, I do see the POP or IMAP folder for the account I want to encrypt, but I was wondering if I also need to add the "Mailboxes" or "MailData" folders that are also there since they seem to have information in them related to my accounts as well.Â

So I have some sensitive documents in a folder on my Mac that I'd like to restrict access to. Is there a way to password protect a single folder within Finder so that people using my Mac cannot view the contents?Seems like it should be an easy thing to do, but it doesn't look like I have that option.

I currently have an issue with Mail 5.2 in which mail I compose and send is placed in the drafts folder and not sent. I have spent hours on the phone with my ISP and have been unable to resolve the issue. ISP has told me all settings are correct. I can receive e-mail on the account I just can't seem to get it to send. Checked my router (Time Capsule) and all ports are fine. I am also running my own mail server on Lion Server. The Lion server account is IMAP and sends/recieves e-mail no problem. My ISP account is POP and uses no authentication.

I setup my macbook air 11" with a folder within the inbox in Apple mail. I set up a rule so that any email with a certain address [URL] went into that folder. However all my mail went into that folder for that particular email address.Â
Here this adds to my problem:Â
Having had issues I exchanged my 11" air for a 13" and apple moved everything across. The mail coming in from [URL] etc is still going into the folder but so is everything else for that mailbox - however when I go to preference > Rules there is only one listed called Apple (a default I think)Â
So how can I get my mail going back to the main inbox an then segregating the mail for the info@ into the networking folder? I am using Lion 10.7.4 13" air 1.8ghz intel core i7

How can one delete emails from the "all mail" folder? It seems that every single e-mail is stored in that folder perhaps forever?? I am fairly new to the Mac World. I like to keep my mail folders clean but find that by now I have well over 7000 emails stored in tat "all mail" folder. I can delete those mails "temporarily" but they come back after powering up again.

I am no longer able to open Mail. I get the message: "Mail can't open because you don't have the necessary permissions to change the folder where it saves information"  It then goes on to tell me where mail stores information and to go to that folder and use the Get Info window to change the privileges to Read and Write (which they already were). I authenticate, change them to Read and then back to Read and Write, click the lock and try again. Same result. I tried to take a screen shot of that window and got this message: "Your screen shot can't be saved. You don't have permission to save files in the location wherescreen shots are stored." Last night I tried to take a screen shot and got the same message. I repaired permissions in Disk Utility and there were thousands of permissions repaired.

I want mail to filter junk (including previous emails) and automatically place it in the junk folder. Currently, all it is doing is marking mail as junk within the inbox, and no junk emails are showing up in the junk folder. I tried unchecking and rechecking filtering for junk, resetting (in preferences), and re-downloading all emails. I have the box marked for move it to junk box, but the emails only show up as spam w/i the inbox.

Is there anyway to encrypt incoming traffic so people wouldn't know what I am downloading? I have an airport extreme base station and am wondering if it is possible to do it through that. If not, what would be the best software way to do this? Now, since illegally downloading is bad
