I've got an Automator loop that is stopping at the first iteration while set on "loop automatically" but if I set it on "ask to continue" it prompts me every time but continues to loop correctly if I have selected multiple items in Finder.

Is there a loop counter built into Automator?
I've got a 500 cycle loop built into an Automator workflow and I'd like to be able to monitor in real time the number of times that loop has run. Is there an Automator Action which will incrementally display the number of times a loop has run?
Also, is there a loop limit in Automator...i.e., max number of times a loop can be set to run? Five hundred works OK but how about a thousand, or two thousand or more over several days?

Would something like this even be possible to do in Automator? I want to be sure it's actually possible before I dive in.
Another less advanced option would be automatically add mp3s dowloaded from Safari to a certain playlist. I'm sure that would be possible, right?
I am new to Automator, and even though I have been tinkering around with it for about an hour, I can't seem to create an action.
What I want to do is have Automator automatically take the contents of a specific folder on my hard drive, print the contents of the folder (usually PDFs), then delete the files. I use dropbox, so when I place a pdf into this folder from my laptop on the go, it would be nice to come home to it printed, and no longer in the folder taking up space.
How to automatically launch work contexts? By the term context, I mean:
- When I'm working on website design, I always need to have Coda application on the right, a browser on the left.
- When I'm developing with XCode, I need XCode on the right and iPad simulator on the upper left and at the bottom left, I have the documentation, etc.
I'd like to be able to by one click to launch all of that correctly placed on the screen etc.

Hi all, here's what I'm trying but failing to achieve in Automator:
1) When files are added to "foldername" or any of its subfolders
2) Copy that file to "newfolder"
What is actually happening with my workflow below is it only takes action if something is added directly into "foldername" and ignores files added to subfolders like "foldername/subfolder".

I recently set my Mac Mail preferences (using a me.com account) to send an "away message" to the senders of all incoming messages to my mail account. Little did I know the hassle this would create -- while I was away, there were problems with neverending back-and-forth away messages to various recipients where hundreds to thousands of e-mail messages were automatically exchanged back and forth from my account to the recipient that was also away or unable to receive messages. Then I really goofed up big time and sent myself an e-mail from the same away e-mail account, and I couldn't even stop it, there were so many messages upon messages it was just ridiculous. How can I avoid this problem in the future? Is there a simpler way to set an away message using Mac Mail and a me.com account?

My address book has suddenly gone haywire. It contains nothing 'on this mac' and seems to be stuck in a loop of downloading from iCloud - it gets a few contacts, then more, then yet more, then all, then back to just some and goes through the cycle all over again. Looking at the plist files in the library com.apple.addressbook.plist keeps vanishing and reappearing. I've tried quitting address Book, deleting the plist files (all of them) then reopening, but problem persists. I've tried turning off the iCloud sync for Address Book, whereupon it asks me if I want to keep a local copy: I say yes, but nothing is copied. Turn it on again, it syncs and starts looping all over again.

I have an iMac A1225 EMC2211 that is exhibiting some weird behaviour. After about 5 minutes of using it (cold boot) it will either have a kernel panic, freeze and go into a blue (bondi blue I think) screen, or shut down. I ran an extended AHT on it and after 10 minutes it shuts down (black screen) then goes into a boot loop (screen stays black and system chimes once every 2 seconds). If the system is warm it will not boot (goes to blank grey screen). The consol reports something with the NVRAM (havent had the ability to post the log yet).

I updated iphoto to 9.3 but never bothered to launch it until today. It asked me to upgrade the library. However, the process got stuff with a spinning beach ball and my mbp completely froze! When I cold booted it, it launched iphoto on its own and the whole process repeated. I had to reboot in safe mood in order to break it.In safe mode too iphoto library froze the machine.

I just literally updated my macbook pro to the latest version of Lion, today 4/3/12 and now it's just stuck on the main log in page for lion. As in, I type in my password, it thinks for two seconds, goes black, and has the log in page again. It just loops. No end in site.I've rebooted in safe mode, run disk utitily, and repaired the disk... but no dice, still. It repairs the disk, fine right? When I reboot in regular mode, it just goes back to the password/login screen loop.

I'm working on an Automator Application which would expand a Rar-archive full of pictures, and turn those into a PDF.This I got working, but now I want the output PDF to be named as the rar-archive's filename that I use as Application input. On the App Store I saw an item CleanMyDesktop but folks complained it didn't get all file types. So I thought I'd try it with my modest Automator abilities: FIND, FILTER, MOVE TO FOLDER...BUT...but it only works if there are files of that type on the desktop, so if there happens to be no pics, the application stops right there, or if there are no docs, it stops there, etc.But if I put an item of each file type on the Desktop, sure enough it runs all the way to the conclusion. So how can I fix this? Tell it to move on even if there are no items of that type of MOVE. 'Cause right now it ain't good. I tried this to clean my Desktop and now I'm tossing junk all over the Desktop so the app can finish.

I have set up and sucessfully tested a workflow which sends any file found in a particular folder to the "paperless" app, then moves all files to a different folder called "Archived attachments".HOWEVER as a folder action, nothing happens when a file is put into the folder. The file just sits there in the folder. To create a folder action I opened "new folder action" in Automator, then dragged and dropped the working workflow file into the workspace, then set "Folder Action recieves files and folders added to" the appropriate folder, let's call it "Attachments".Just to complicate things, the files are placed into the "Attachments" folder using an applescript that captures all pdf mail attachments. I'm kind of new to Automator and I'm trying to come up with a sequence that will severely save me a few hours a day moving files from two larger folders into smaller folders. Basically the setup is that I have two folders, one constantly being populated with images and the other with video files. They each have file names starting with a two digit number (i.e. 12, 11, 10...) or "BG" and then a two digit number (i.e. BG12, BG11, BG10...) with the digits corresponding to a year. Essentially, I'd need to move the files into folders corresponding to the year (i.e. files starting with BG12 and 12 would be moved to 2012, files starting with BG11 and 11 would be moved to 2011, etc). As it stands now, I've only been able to get the 2012 folder populated.

This is working great, though it redownloads every image each time I run the workflow. Is there a way that I can have Automator check to see if the image exists in the folder prior to download and only downloading if it doesn't? This would save a lot of time and be much more efficient for me.

My Samsung laser printer used to work fine with the OSX driver but now it doesn't even print. The job is sent to the query but then the job disappears a few seconds later and nothing is printed. Same goes for the printer on my brother's new macbook, Panasonic printer with OSX drivers installed fine and the print job is sent to the quere and the job disappears but nothing prints.

Today, my Macbook Pro 15" started to automatically boot up in Safe Boot / Safe Mode. So every time I boot up, I have to wait 5-10 minutes and stuff. It's not normal.
I tried: Restarting, Shutting down and booting.
Resetting PRAM, NVRAM
Verifying and repairing Hard Disk in Disk Utility (it fails). Tried in Mac OS and OS Installation Disk. etc. I got this computer 6 days ago, and there is already this problem. Is there a way without reinstalling the OS? I have Windows installed on it for gaming, but I don't see anything else that could be causing the problem.
