MacBook Pro :: Lion Loop-freezes At Session Startup Login On 15”

Apr 10, 2012

Notebooks affected by this troubleshoot:Macbook Pro 15" 6,2 Mid 2010 (OS 10.7.3) with all Apple updates installed - 2,66Ghz Core i7 - Apple SSD 128GBMacbook Pro 15" Late 2011 (OS 10.7.2) - 2,4Ghz Core i7 - standard specs Troubleshoot : At startup, Lion freezes before the user is able to type his login/password. We see the login prompt interface of Lion, but can't even move mouse cursor.Keyboard's inactive too because system is frozen. So you must force a shutdown. And it's a loop-freezes. You'll try several times to boot your laptop before it will succeed to open. (it's a 5-times boot to succeed - average) I've tried several times: P-Ram reset, repair the permissions of Macintosh HD with latest Lion recovery & from an external boot too.None of this has solved this issue. I'm sure I'm not the only one who saw that issue. Have to boot 5 or 10 times his Macbook Pro to succeed a boot is not a normal use

OS X V10.7 Lion :: MBP Stuck On Login Screen / Password Loop After Latest Update

Apr 3, 2012

I just literally updated my macbook pro to the latest version of Lion, today 4/3/12 and now it's just stuck on the main log in page for lion. As in, I type in my password, it thinks for two seconds, goes black, and has the log in page again. It just loops. No end in site.I've rebooted in safe mode, run disk utitily, and repaired the disk... but no dice, still. It repairs the disk, fine right? When I reboot in regular mode, it just goes back to the password/login screen loop.

MacBook Pro :: Stuck In Loop At Login After 10.6.4 Update

Jun 17, 2010

This is my first mac, I installed the 10.6.4 update the other day and restarted, since then it has been on or sleeping. I just shut it down and turned it on again and it's asking for my password. Each time I enter it goes to load and then comes back to the log in screen. I know I have the write password because it's a simple 4 digit one that I use for my bank account and if I enter anything else the box shakes and asks me to re-enter it. How do I log in?

I have a mid-07 Santa Rosa MBP. When I turn it on, nothing comes on the screen (not even backlight), but I'll hear the startup chime and 2 seconds later, it reboots and does the same thing. Here is what I have tried:

1. Reset SMU
2. Reset PRAM
3. Replacing HD
4. Replacing PRAM/CMOS battery
5. Tried booting off DVD (but it reboots too fast after the chime)

I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro and I've noticed several freezes on the login screen: it gets on the login screen and the multicolored spinning ball appears and you are not able to authenticate.. The only thing you can do is to force a shutdown with the power button. I always see this messages before the forced shutdown:

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Freezes While Filling Out Login Form To Websites

Apr 15, 2012

I've been experiencing this for over a month now. Basically, occasionally when logging into a website (i.e. google, designers.mx, amazon, etc. -- really doesn't matter what site it seems), Lion will entirely freeze up for seconds to up to minutes. More specifically it occurs when tabbing from the username to the password field. This will happen both in Chrome and Firefox. I had thought it was related to maybe firefox add-ons (i.e. I have 1password, but i've disabled them and have had it still happen. I do use firebug, but wouldn't think it was related to this issue..I've already verified there are no issues in the keychain access as well.I can sometimes unfreeze momentarily it by pressing the power button briefly.

Software :: Login Loop After Shutting Down Computer During Update Install

May 31, 2008

I recently installed Leopard. On my way to bed I saw that there was an update to be installed. I clicked install, but the install took to long (and was being executed in a special screen after the shut down of the computer, so there were no annulation options) and I was so annoyed with the length of the installation that I shut my computer down. A big no, so it seems, because the next morning when I booted my computer, the login screen appeared. I set up-auto login, so seeing a login window was strange. When I entered my correct password, I first saw a blue screen and then returned to the log-in screen. There appears to be no way for me to log-in.

Things I've tried: safe boot, booting with the install DVD (I checked the harddrive for any problems, there were none) and booting while pressing an interesting variety of keys. With the same result: none. I tried doing the root-user thing, but to no avail. I think I don't have root user selected in finder. The updated I tried to install was the last one seeded by apple, I think it was the 10.5.3 update; there were three files to be installed. My computer is and intel iMac from the first quarter of 2007.

IMac (Intel) :: When Returning To Open User Session From Login Screen / Windows Have Moved Or / Been Resized

Jun 6, 2014

I recently updated by 2013 27" iMac to OS X 10.9.3 and since then, I have a weird problem when I switch from one user to another: I often have several user sessions opened for several account, and when I switch from one to the other, or go to the login screen and open an already open session, I find the windows I had left open resized and/or moved. They're often moved to the upper left corner, and resized as if the screen was much smaller than it actually is. It worked without any problem in OS X 10.9.2…

OS X :: Blue Screen Startup Loop - Video Driver On My Boot Camp?

Dec 27, 2010

some reason my Macbook Pro 15' inch won't start up. It's stuck at the blue loading screen after the gray Apple. The screen switches from two blue colors every 5 seconds or so along with a loading symbol. Sometimes I can see my mouse and use it, but that's all what is happening. The last thing I did was installing the newest video driver on my Boot Camp. (Windows 7 - 32bit and Leopard 10.5 for mac)
I can still start up Windows 7 without a problem on Boot Camp, so it doesn't seems a hardware issue. I already tried some stuff found on the internet, but I can't start up 10.5 in normal or safe mode.

MacBook :: Starting - Freezes At Login And Goes To Darwin Console

Jun 22, 2009

The weirdest thing has happened to my MacBook. It was running a little slow today so I restarted it thinking it would help clear out the memory and whatnot. When I restarted it, everything seemed normal. It makes the classic "mac soud" and shows the apple with the circular loading wheel. It then goes to the login screen, just as it normally does. However, once it goes to the login screen, the spinning beachball comes up and it freezes temporarily. This is when it starts to get bad. The screen then goes black and comes up with white letters saying: Darwin/BSD (my name's Computer.) (console) login: sometimes, I have time to type in my username and password, sometimes not. Either way, the following comes up: disk0s2: 0xe0030005 (UNDEFINED)

it then goes back to the login screen, which completly freezes every time. I am completly frustrated and terrified that I will not be able to access my data, which includes over 2 years of music, pictures etc. that have not been backed up. Does anyone know what is going on with my MacBook?

MacBook Pro :: Snow Leopard Startup Freezes At Grey Screen?

Mar 15, 2012

My Snow leopard machine hangs during startup at the screen with the Grey Apple logo.  It appears there is a SW issue with my OS X boot partition.  Here are facts I have learned:The computer boots fine if I hold option at startup and select my boot camp partitionThe compute boots fine if I attach an external HD with OS X 10.6Running a disk repair from the external HD, I see the following two issues that are repaired.  Also, note the last line about boot partitionsAfter this disk repair, the disk will still not boot, it hangs at the Grey Apple logo.Booting in safe mode does not resolve the issue, the machine will still not boot to a desktopBooting in Verbose mode, drivers initialize with the last succesful line being the ethernet drives (I believe) and then the hangup occurs.  It is unclear what state the boot process is at on the hangup.

This situation has happen twice in the past few weeks.  The first time I did a reinstall of OS X to resolve the issue.  Then, the issue appeared again approximately two weeks later.  I'm hoping to avoid a second reinstall (And really, avoid this issue in the future).  It seems perhaps something in the boot partition table or the OS partition, although disk utility says the partition is fine.  I have downloaded Test Disk 6.13 to look at the partition table, but I don't know how to interpret the outputs of that program.

Laptops :: MacBook Freezes On Startup / Can't Find Test For Hard Drive

Apr 11, 2010

My August 2007 MacBook runs OSX 10.4.10. It has performed flawlessly since my daughter bought it in 2007, and perfectly after I purchased it from her last september. The other night I was surfing the web while flying on a commercial airliner. (GoGoNet or something similar) Performance was kind of slow but I attributed that to the in-air wifi, which I had never used before. Then the browser started to hang with the spinning pinwheel. Option apple escape WOULD NOT force quit safari. After a few shutdowns using only the power button, the mac hung up on startup. I hear the chime, see the apple icon, the gear turns but it never goes past that point. It may be significant that the plane was flying through scary turbulence when my problems began.

When I boot up using the mac install disk 1, I can get it to start cleanly using the C key, the D key and NO keys. But when I run the hardware diagnostic, both short and long test, the mac comes up 100% clean. But i cannot see any test for the hard drive. When I try to run disk utility, the colored pinwheel arrives and it never goes away. When I go down the road of re-installing the system software, I cannot see the target drive.

When I put my ear on the deck, just to the right of the track-pad, I can hear the hard drive quietly spinning away with regular - not random - clicks.

I see that Apple is quietly replacing these hard-drives, but the affected computers seem to have a folder/question mark on the desktop on startup, not the apple/spinning gear.

I really would like to be able to recover my photos and some files if the hard drive is going to be swapped. But I am resigned to the situation that these un-backed-up files will be forever lost.
