Okay I don't know what the deal is, but lately Safari has been having issues connecting to websites. Randomly happens on basically every website out there. Could be in a forum, press next to go to the next page and the balcnk page pops up unable to connect. It's Safari that's doing it, everything else is fine. I don't know what was pushed by Apple lately, but whatever it was, it broke Safari. It's getting annoying to say the least. The fact that it just randomly decides that it cannot load a page is so aggrivating. You'd think it would be able to load a page from cache that it just was at, nooo, it claims it cannot connect to the site and you have to reset Safari, exit, and HOPE, that it will actually let you visit a site that you frequent often... like even Apple's own website. There is something seriously wrong with it at the moment and it's getting to the point now where I will probably just stop using Safari altogether. It's just that annoying. How would you like to call your Mother and have the phone tell you no such number exists? Funny, I've called it a thousand times, but the phone is now telling me it doesn't exist. Then poof, it decides it does exist. Then it doesn't. Then it does.Â

Aug 26, 2014I have a problem that when selecting a file that is either an attachment in email or is in my finder, double clicking on it fails to load the associated application successfully. For example, selecting a pdf file results in the pdf reader logo appearing on the lower bar on the screen, bounces up and down as if it is doing something, but just continues to bounce. I have to force quit it, then go to my application folder to load reader directly, and from within the reader I can then go and select the file. This isn't an application specific issue (It does it with Excel, Word etc).Â
It only started recently. I'm using a MBP summer 2010 with Mavericks 10.9.4. Everything else seems to work.Â

Jun 25, 2012I boughht a used MacBook Air and installed my system via TimeMachine. But it's an older backup with only 10.7.3.Â
I tried the systems Software Update, but it fails after loading over 90% of the data. Then I tried manual downloading the files for combo and system update - but everything fals on my macbook air with the error that the destination file cannot be written.Â
Then I thought let me download it using the iMac - but the same error here - the download fails after about 80% telling me that the destination file cannot be written.Â
What can I do to get my MacBookAir updated to 10.7.4 ?

I've done this many times before successfully on many different Macs. Mar 13, 2012I've got this older iMac but it has 2 GB and few weeks ago I managed to install Lion on a second partition of the internal HD. Sometimes the computer would hang or cause problems and I decided to install the whole system from scratch. After several failed attemps I finally figured, that the internal HD had a defect. So I decided to use an external usb drive to fix that problem for the beginning and before I think about changing the internal hard drive. I created 3 partitions with a GUID-table on the external usb drive and managed to install Leopard on the first partition and so far it's working fine and I boot from that external usb drive.Â
Now I wanted to install Lion on that computer. So I took that Lion thumb stick I purchased from apple and pressed the option key during boot in order to select booting from the thumb stick. It worked for the beginning and a message like "Installation" appeared. After a while the installation would stop with a message like "an error occured during installation, please try again". I did this two times but it never finished the installation.

Apr 8, 2012When installing programs that requires me to provide admin privileges to install them, it fails. It always fails, its not just for one specifik program.
1. I click the .app, .pkg, .mpkg or whatever is about to be installed.
2. Click through the wizard that shows up (license, install location etc)
3. When it is time to install, a dialog window pops up. This is where i write my password and click OK.
4. The password is accepted and the dialog closes.
5. Now nothing happens, the program does not get installed.
(when the installer is just dragging the app to Applications, it works)

OS X V10.7 Lion :: First Time Machine Backup Fails Since Getting It?
Apr 11, 2012I recently got a new MacBook (upgrading to 7.2 with lion) and put all my old data on it using a time machine backup from an external hard drive. Now, when I try to create a backup on time machine to the same external device I get an error message that says I don't have enough free space on the drive to complete the back-up. I've deleted some of the oldest back-ups from the external drive, but time machine doesn't seem to notice the newly available space.
Is the first backup on the new computer larger then normal? It says it requires 215gb but the external drive is 250gb so clearly I haven't needed that much space in the past as there are numerous back-ups from my old Macbook on this drive.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Time Machine Restoration Fails?
Jun 19, 2012I had to restore my Macbook Pro to a previous backup because of an issue I am experiencing. I seleted the Restore option in Lion Recovery, I seleteced the backup I want to restore from on my Time Capsule to restore, initially the restoration looked good. However once the progress reached 0.6% the restore simply stopped and the estimated time rocketed indefinitely up to some 200 hours. After I gave it a second attempt, this time again the restoration stopped at 0.6%, and when the estimated time reached around 26 hours an error message showed up saying the files cannot be restored and prompted me to restart my computer. I have attempted a repair of the sparesbundle in Disk Utility on my iMac and I am giving it a third attempt. I haven't done anything to the sparesbundle file and it backs up perfectly fine up until this morning right before I decided to restore my old system so I am brushing file corruption aside.

Feb 6, 2012I have a user with a new 13" MacBook Pro, which got rather misconfiguration during intial setup. We thought it might be easiest to erase and start afresh, so I booted into the Lion recovery partition. Firstly, tried to customise the Lion installation as per previous versions, but the 'Customise' choice is greyed out. Ok, no Erase and Reinstall option then. In Disk Utility, I erased the partition, and renamed it something sensible (UserHD).  Back to the install, all proceeded correctly until it tried downloading files from Apple. At this point, the progress bar moved slowly across, until it reached the end and I was presented with an error message along the lines that it failed to download additional components from Apple. Â
I have tried this four times, with various combinations of Wifi, and wired ethernet connections, all with the same result.Booting into Internet Recovery mode (Cmd-Opt-R) also fails:Â after an initial moving glode icon, and a small amount of the progress bar, I get the exlcamation mark icon, apple.com/support and error code -2105FÂ The laptop is now unuseable, because we can't restore it. Â
1: Can I tell it NOT to go to the internet first? Every other OS Installer lets you install first, and then go off to download additional components.
2: I note in the Installer logs that it thinks it's about 8 hours behind local time. Is this a problem (perhaps with SSL cert verification?)
3: Does the download happen over non-standard ports? (eg. something that may be being blocked by our firewall?)Â

Feb 6, 2012I updated to 10.7.3 48 hours ago and my Apple bluetooth keybaord does not work. My Mac Pro system is several years old and does not have an internal bluetooth. I have been using a bluetooth dongle successfully. The keyboard goes through the pairing process normally and appears connected in the System Preferences (Bluetooth) application but no characters appear when typing on the keyboard in any application.Â

Mar 20, 2012Since updating to Lion, and subsequently to QuickTime 10.1, many movies that worked fine before won't open now. I get an error that says, "A required codec is not available." Two things make this even more frustrating:
1. Some movies of the same type still open just fine. I can't seem to find a pattern that links the ones that won't open.
2. The movies that won't open are still available to preview in Finder. If they will play in Finder, why not in QuickTime? Isn't it just a QickTime "plug-in" that plays them in the Finder?

Apr 9, 2012I had a system instability issue and needed to restore my system from a Time Machine backup.Â
I tired restoring from several backups of different dates, with OS X Version labeled 10.7.3 (11D50b). I did so by booting into Lion Recovery HD and following the menu. However, once the recovery finishes copying files to the boot HD and reboots, the computer got stuch forever on the screen with Apple logo with the spinning wheel.Â
Luckily my backup still contained a backup from about two months ago with a different OS X Version, labeled 10.7.2 (11C74). Restoring from this backup completed successfully.Â
At least I did not have to build the sytem from stratch, but I wonder why restoring the system from the latest backup did not work.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Time Machine Fails Now Cannot Eject Any External HDs
May 12, 2012A series of backup related problems have occurred: Upgraded to Lion and then TM failed to backup: "Error while copying to backup disk" (using Lacie d2 Quadra HD that has been performing well for 2 years). I also have a second Iomega MiniMaxHD with a carbon copy clone of my Snow Leopard mac on one partition and a second partition with other iphoto/.itunes/ document backup and now I cannot copy my iphoto library to this HD for a backup: " Operation could not be completed because the item "iphoto Library" is in use", even though all applications are off.
Tried multiple times and the transfer of the iphoto library always fails midway through. I have lost both my TM backup and my ability to backup to other drives because a new problem has arisen: every time I try to load an external HD I can't eject it: can't eject because error message says that the "Finder is using" the external HD and then I have to Force Eject, risking data loss.
I have so far tried: restart mac, reset PRAM, unplug/verify and repair disk multiple times for all of the external HDs as well as my Macintosh HD; I have erased the Lacie HD and reformatted it while rebooting from Lion Recovery HD and then TM still failed; I have also tried deleting from the Library my TM plist as well as my iphoto p.list. I even tried using a brand new Iomega Minimax HD and TM still failed

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Time Machine Backup Fails After Toggling Off / On Twice
Jun 18, 2012OK my Time Machine backup was working fine as of May 22. But then I was diagnosing some system-related problems and I wanted to find out if certain error messages in the console were being caused by Time Machine. So I toggled it "Off" in the System Preferences. But it did not stop the errors.While it was off, I ran some system maintainance utilities that clean out your caches, repair permissions on the home directory, etc. That seemed to stop the most of the error messages I was getting.
So then I toggled Time Machine to "On" in its System Preferences. It shows my "Latest Backup" as having been May 22. However it won't backup the computer, because it throws this error:
"This backup is too large for the backup disk. The backup requires 1.77 TB but only 703.30 GB are available.
Time Machine needs work space on the backup disk, in addition to the space required to store backups. Open Time Machine preferences to select a larger backup disk or make the backup smaller by excluding files."even though the Time Machine drive is 4TB, and the only things on that drive are backups of the same volume that I'm trying to backup now!

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Ethernet Internet Connection Fails But Not WiFi?
Jun 29, 2012I am on a Mac Mini connected to the Net via a FON wireless router and Ethernet directly to my broadband modem. I have had problems with both the modem and an Airport Extreme, which eventually died, but I am back up again with the modem via the FON router.The odd thing is that I can't get Ethernet to work over a direct connection to the modem. Diagnostics tells me that the ISP and Internet fails. I can connect to the modem over Ethernet, however, change its settings etc. in my browser. There are solutions mentioned here involving changing the etc/authorization file, but wouldn't that also affect the WiFi if that was the problem?Â
In short, Ethernet connection to modem works. WiFi connection to FON router and then to the ISP and Internet works. But the Ethernet configuration does't go that last bit, it only works locally. Using that route, I can't connect to the outside world. I have restarted the modem, the computer etc., but that should not be the problem as both works over WiFi, using the same settings for the modem. How do I best troubleshoot this? I am getting an AirPort Express, perhaps it will work better with the modem that the computer itself, but I doubt it.

Sep 2, 2014On my laptop, the Airplay refuses to ave sound. First it was just with some web content, now it's all sound.Â
Menu Bar -> Airplay -> Mirroring On
Result:Â Flawless video, no sound.Â
System Preferences -> Sound -> Output -> Apple TV
Result: Selection pops to the last item, Airplay stops displaying on TV. (Airplay on the mac thinks it's still working, but the Apple TV stops displaying.)Â
Rebooting doesn't work, pretty much nothing seems to have an effect.Â

Apr 28, 2012I can see this seems to be a common problem, and it is amazing that there seems to be no consensus (that I can find) on what the underlying problem is.I have two Macbook Pro 13's.Pretty much identical setups (Lion 1.7.3 etc.).One, works flawlessly connecting to Wi-Fi whether that is my Airport Express, or any other open or closed networks.The second, will continually refuse to connect to the Airport Express or even a wide-open 802.11b network.It will continually pop up the "connection timeout" erorr, and refuse to connect.Iphones etc all connect perfectly.Even when connecting to the iPhone hotspot - the same error.
This will happed consistently, until I give up.I can leave it for a day (use ethernet), and come back tomorrow, and voila - it will connect.I may be able to use it for a day or several, but once it decides to 'fail', there is virtually nothing I can do to bring it back it will continue to fail over and over again.All updates are applied, I've cleaned out all other networks etc from the list.Tried all civilized things that I can.Anyone have any other insight? I was thinking to yank the wi-fi module from the working notebook to the non-working one as a test.

Jun 18, 2012If someone has me in their address book as Doe John and sends an email to me at my email address (johndoe@mail.com), Mail.app does not recognize me and asks me if I want to 'Add to Address Book'. The same happens if a sender has a minor change in the Name (such as even a dot in the name) of any recipient, regardless of the fact that I have the correct name in the address book. Mail fails to recognize the recipient even though the email address is identical, and will ask me if I want to 'Add to Address Book'. One would expect Mail to use just the email address and recognize the contact as already being in the Address Book. Â
