Feb 28, 2012Running Safari 5.1.2 (6534.52.7), OSX 10.6.8.
Okay I don't know what the deal is, but lately Safari has been having issues connecting to websites. Randomly happens on basically every website out there. Could be in a forum, press next to go to the next page and the balcnk page pops up unable to connect. It's Safari that's doing it, everything else is fine. I don't know what was pushed by Apple lately, but whatever it was, it broke Safari. It's getting annoying to say the least. The fact that it just randomly decides that it cannot load a page is so aggrivating. You'd think it would be able to load a page from cache that it just was at, nooo, it claims it cannot connect to the site and you have to reset Safari, exit, and HOPE, that it will actually let you visit a site that you frequent often... like even Apple's own website. There is something seriously wrong with it at the moment and it's getting to the point now where I will probably just stop using Safari altogether. It's just that annoying. How would you like to call your Mother and have the phone tell you no such number exists? Funny, I've called it a thousand times, but the phone is now telling me it doesn't exist. Then poof, it decides it does exist. Then it doesn't. Then it does.

Mar 15, 2012I have an issue with safari pages not loading or hanging up while loading. I have found a temporary fix of turning the wireless off and then back on. I have the same problem with firefox, but not as often.

Aug 26, 2014I have a problem that when selecting a file that is either an attachment in email or is in my finder, double clicking on it fails to load the associated application successfully. For example, selecting a pdf file results in the pdf reader logo appearing on the lower bar on the screen, bounces up and down as if it is doing something, but just continues to bounce. I have to force quit it, then go to my application folder to load reader directly, and from within the reader I can then go and select the file. This isn't an application specific issue (It does it with Excel, Word etc).
It only started recently. I'm using a MBP summer 2010 with Mavericks 10.9.4. Everything else seems to work.

May 3, 2012I have this very annoying issue with my Mac. (I have OSX v.10.7.3 Safari v. 5.1.5) Very often when I try to open a webpage it takes forever to load and eventually I either get a “Safari can’t open the page because the server where this page is located isn’t responding.” message or the page loads partially-no pictures or with a strange layout. After that when I re-lunch the page it shows up instantly. The strange thing is that when I don’t wait but instead quit and re-lunch Safari while it's loading the page, it loads straightaway. I can also turn my Internet connection on and off again and same thing happens. (WiFi or cable- it doesn’t matter) The problem is that I have to do it every time I click on a link. You can imagine what happens when I try to open more than one tab or window.This also happens on Chrome on my Mac but my Toshiba Win XP works perfectly so I don’t think it’s the modem or wifi. I don’t have any antivirus installed, no mackeepers either.

May 22, 2012Safari will not load photos/images on web page. It will load on a test user side I created, but on the main side it will not. I have empited all caches. Software is up to date, OSX and safari. Firefox loads all images, but I'm not running that as the defaut browser.

May 22, 2012I’ll try to be as specific as I can. I’m running Safari 5.1.7
From time to time, Safari seems to encounter a problem with opening https (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure). Either the page won’t open or the page will take deveral minutes to load (like four minutes to load Twitter home page).
When it happens, it seems to cause Safari the misbehave with any other page: Safari becomes in effect broken. Meanwhile, pages load normally in Chrome or Firefox.
Sometimes, restarting the computer will fix the problem (for a while), but sometime it doesn’t. I’ve also tried to empty Safari’s cache and flush its DNS. It doesn’t always work. I coming here because I restarted by computer half an hour ago and pages are still loading in Safari.
Other valuable information:
1) The problem with https existed prior to me upgrading to 5.1.7
2) I can be using Safari for days before I encounter the problem
3) I usually work with thre or four windows open, each loaded with about ten tabs.

Safari On PC Behind Proxy Fails Following Password Change?

I recently changed my windows password and now Safari can't reach any website. I've cleared out the Windows credential manager. Internet explorer prompted my for my new password once and now works fine. I've tried an un-install and re-install of Safari but that didn't help.

Jun 25, 2012I boughht a used MacBook Air and installed my system via TimeMachine. But it's an older backup with only 10.7.3.
I tried the systems Software Update, but it fails after loading over 90% of the data. Then I tried manual downloading the files for combo and system update - but everything fals on my macbook air with the error that the destination file cannot be written.
Then I thought let me download it using the iMac - but the same error here - the download fails after about 80% telling me that the destination file cannot be written.
What can I do to get my MacBookAir updated to 10.7.4 ?

Mar 13, 2012I've got this older iMac but it has 2 GB and few weeks ago I managed to install Lion on a second partition of the internal HD. Sometimes the computer would hang or cause problems and I decided to install the whole system from scratch. After several failed attemps I finally figured, that the internal HD had a defect. So I decided to use an external usb drive to fix that problem for the beginning and before I think about changing the internal hard drive. I created 3 partitions with a GUID-table on the external usb drive and managed to install Leopard on the first partition and so far it's working fine and I boot from that external usb drive.
Now I wanted to install Lion on that computer. So I took that Lion thumb stick I purchased from apple and pressed the option key during boot in order to select booting from the thumb stick. It worked for the beginning and a message like "Installation" appeared. After a while the installation would stop with a message like "an error occured during installation, please try again". I did this two times but it never finished the installation.

Apr 8, 2012When installing programs that requires me to provide admin privileges to install them, it fails. It always fails, its not just for one specifik program.
1. I click the .app, .pkg, .mpkg or whatever is about to be installed.
2. Click through the wizard that shows up (license, install location etc)
3. When it is time to install, a dialog window pops up. This is where i write my password and click OK.
4. The password is accepted and the dialog closes.
5. Now nothing happens, the program does not get installed.
(when the installer is just dragging the app to Applications, it works)

Apr 11, 2012I recently got a new MacBook (upgrading to 7.2 with lion) and put all my old data on it using a time machine backup from an external hard drive. Now, when I try to create a backup on time machine to the same external device I get an error message that says I don't have enough free space on the drive to complete the back-up. I've deleted some of the oldest back-ups from the external drive, but time machine doesn't seem to notice the newly available space.
Is the first backup on the new computer larger then normal? It says it requires 215gb but the external drive is 250gb so clearly I haven't needed that much space in the past as there are numerous back-ups from my old Macbook on this drive.

Jun 19, 2012I had to restore my Macbook Pro to a previous backup because of an issue I am experiencing. I seleted the Restore option in Lion Recovery, I seleteced the backup I want to restore from on my Time Capsule to restore, initially the restoration looked good. However once the progress reached 0.6% the restore simply stopped and the estimated time rocketed indefinitely up to some 200 hours. After I gave it a second attempt, this time again the restoration stopped at 0.6%, and when the estimated time reached around 26 hours an error message showed up saying the files cannot be restored and prompted me to restart my computer. I have attempted a repair of the sparesbundle in Disk Utility on my iMac and I am giving it a third attempt. I haven't done anything to the sparesbundle file and it backs up perfectly fine up until this morning right before I decided to restore my old system so I am brushing file corruption aside.

Feb 6, 2012I have a user with a new 13" MacBook Pro, which got rather misconfiguration during intial setup. We thought it might be easiest to erase and start afresh, so I booted into the Lion recovery partition. Firstly, tried to customise the Lion installation as per previous versions, but the 'Customise' choice is greyed out. Ok, no Erase and Reinstall option then. In Disk Utility, I erased the partition, and renamed it something sensible (UserHD). Back to the install, all proceeded correctly until it tried downloading files from Apple. At this point, the progress bar moved slowly across, until it reached the end and I was presented with an error message along the lines that it failed to download additional components from Apple.
I have tried this four times, with various combinations of Wifi, and wired ethernet connections, all with the same result.Booting into Internet Recovery mode (Cmd-Opt-R) also fails: after an initial moving glode icon, and a small amount of the progress bar, I get the exlcamation mark icon, apple.com/support and error code -2105F The laptop is now unuseable, because we can't restore it.
1: Can I tell it NOT to go to the internet first? Every other OS Installer lets you install first, and then go off to download additional components.
2: I note in the Installer logs that it thinks it's about 8 hours behind local time. Is this a problem (perhaps with SSL cert verification?)
3: Does the download happen over non-standard ports? (eg. something that may be being blocked by our firewall?)

I have been using a bluetooth dongle successfully. The keyboard goes through the pairing process normally and appears connected in the System Preferences (Bluetooth) application but no characters appear when typing on the keyboard in any application.

Mar 20, 2012Since updating to Lion, and subsequently to QuickTime 10.1, many movies that worked fine before won't open now. I get an error that says, "A required codec is not available." Two things make this even more frustrating:
1. Some movies of the same type still open just fine. I can't seem to find a pattern that links the ones that won't open.
2. The movies that won't open are still available to preview in Finder. If they will play in Finder, why not in QuickTime? Isn't it just a QickTime "plug-in" that plays them in the Finder?
