OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Finder Upload Screen Is Not Synced With Media?

MacBook Pro OS X 10.6.8 Anytime I try to upload or add a file to a program, ie: Attach a file to an email, or something of the sort, the media related spotlights on the sidebar appear empty, even though I have plenty of items that should be shown when clicked on. The finder upload window drops down, and I'll click on iTunes or another media related tab, but none of my music, playlists, or items related to that tab show up. This occurs for any program (Chrome, Safari, Email, iTunes, Mixed In Key).Â
Finder will flick to blue screen for a split second and restart quitting all open apps. Not restarting the iMac, but just Finder? I've ran Disk Utility and found no problems and also ran a Hardware Test and found no problems. The only indication I have is in Console which without posting the whole log the below lines stand out to me as potential issues:
HIToolbox: received notification of WindowServer event port death. This line is present numerous times with each application name that was open next to it indicating to me a reason each app has quit? Then a long list of this line repeated; com.apple.fontd [58544] FODBCheck: foRec->annexNumber != kInvalidAnnexNumber (0) Followed by: com.apple.WindowServer[58526] WindowServer[58526] <Error>: kCGErrorFailure: Set a breakpoint @ CGErrorBreakpoint() to catch errors as they are logged.
This happened once yesterday and a few times today so it's becoming more regular...
i have just purchased a MacBook with OS X 10.6 installed on the system. I really want to upload the App iPhoto to use. It is compatible with this system.I have read that it will not work on any system before OS X 10.6.6 I assume my system is before that and therefore i can not purchase this app???
Sometimes I simply cannot open a new finder window. If I use Command-N or if I choose New Finder Window in the Finder menu, nothing happens. If I am using Command-N, I can see the File heading in the Finder menu bar highlighting, and then after a few seconds the highlight goes, but no window opens. Also, clicking on my Downloads icon in the dock, the dialog opens showing all the files, but if I then click on Open in Finder, the dialog closes but nothing happens. Now that I am writing this message, it all works again! That's what I mean by 'sometimes'. This issue can last for tens of minutes. Secndly, and this is still a problem, my finder Preferences do not stick. So for instance, I don't want to see an icon for my hard disk on the desktop, so I untick this in Finder preferences. The icon disappears. If I now re-start, then it comes back. The same happens for removing the empty trash warning and all of the other Finder Preference tick boxes.Â
Now, when the first problem of not being able to open a finder window suddenly stopped being a problem, the icon for the hard disk suddenly appeared on my desktop. So the two issues are linked. This has been going on intermittently for a few days. I have verified my disk, and repaired permissions.
Control-click I get three options in a box Reload Page/Save Page As/Print Page File Save As I get "audio-sample-2.webarchive" could not be exported as "audio-sample-2" I'm a transcription and need to receive audio files from clients in various ways.

This report also contains technical information about the state of the application when it crashed. Also, I downloaded google Chrome, but it crashed too. This has only been happening for the past week or so--up till then it's been fine.
I used a cool app called filecutter to cut and paste files (move them). Snow leopard broke the app. I can no longer right click on file and see the filecutter option. I guess path finder has the ability, but I do not need all the extra stuff it comes with.
My iMac freezes once or twice even three times a day for no obvious reason. This happens using safari only or safari and mail.This has happened for 2 weeks. No change in my system for 2 years, except regular updates. I can close the application (Safari for example) but the iMac stays frozen. When I use "force to quit", it is proposed to restart Finder. But, the iMac stays stucked with the color wheel turning. The only way to stop and restart is to switch off and on.
On the dock, to the far right you can have applications, downloads, etc list of folder. What I would like to do is modify the default behavior for these icons only so that they open on hover rather than click. I want to do this because I have them setup as list style, and I can very quickly browse to whatever folder I need from there. If you open a folder in column view, you can hold down ALT and resize all the columns at the same time. This will also change column size for ALL folders in the system immedietly. Is there such a shortcut where I can also change the size of the finder window for ALL finder windows? Some finder windows open as tiny little thing, and I woudl prefer a nice large default window. I know you can do each one separately and close it but who wants to do that for every folder?
I am a reasonably experienced iMac user but can anybody tell me please why the (grey) sidebar in Finder has gone missing and tell me how to get it back? I have never seen this happen before.
I am running Snow Leopard on an iMac (intel). Obvious things like preferences/Sidebar checked (all items in there ticked including Devices, Shared, Places, etc).
I have two Drobo storage devices connected to my My MacPro. Both are running with the same formatting "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". I can search one of these disks but not the other.
I started an iDVD project to burn a dvd and completed it. In the finder bars under Places, an icon keeps showing up and I can't get rid of it. It doesn't seem to impact the rest of the system, just annoying. I have done the following:
Tried to turn off computer and it kept prompting me to force quite various applications. I have since restarted the computer but now am getting this error when trying to open Finder. I have looked through several discussions and unfortunately am not an apple expert so much of what I am reading is foreign to me.I have opened the Terminal and entered a prompt that made all of my desktop docs and finder visable, but as soon as I closed out the Terminal it all disappeared again.Can anyone point me in the right direction - step by step - to get Finder back up and running.To my knowledge all other applications seem to be working as normal.FYI I do have a few extermal items attached to the Mac. (1) extermanl hard drive for the Time Machine, and USB drive.
I really prefer Windows way of sorting a folder, first folders and then files, is there a way to do it in Snow Leopard? I have done this: [URL:...] But that doest work for me in SL.
So I found an Automator script that let me compress in the Rar format. I created the correct folders (~/Library/Workflows/Applications/Finder/) and went to see if I could compress just some folders but I have no "More.." contextual menu entry. In Leopard I had it. How am I supposed to use Automator workflows now? Am I alone in not having this entry? I have the 10.6.1 update installed.
Every time I enter a different folder in Snow Leopard' Finder, the icons are different sizes. How can I make the icons the same size in all of the folders?
I just noticed today when i was trying to use this, did Snow leopard erase all my finder automator plugins? I used to beable to right click images on desktop and using automator menu rename and convert images but now its all gone.
After getting the message that Finder had an error -10801 (or something similar, i can't remember...) I forced my macbook pro to shut down. Afterwards I can log-in but non of the finder windows appear on the desktop. Also I cannot open any other application or shut down the Computer. when I put in my Leopard Install disc and turn on the Computer holding down the C I only get a grey screen. I have done that for 10 minutes. When I do the same with Snow Leopard "CPU Drop-in DVD" I get a menu: 'Choosing language' and then MAC OS X Installer asks 'To set up the installation of Snow Leopard, click continue". However, I am afraid of doing that if it erases all my documents. I have the possibility of choosing a UTILITY menu, but down know what to do with this (e.g. Go to Disk Utility or Terminal). Does anyone have a clue of how to help the Danish student?
While online in either Safari or Firefox my cursor as I am navigating a page will suddendly freeze on screen. I them am forced to relaunch finder, then unplug my mouse from the keyboard and once again, relaunch the finder.Then the cursor will move again. Any solutions to this problem guys? This is really driving me nuts. It happens about 5 times an hour!
I think I may have this Java Trojan virus that many have been talking about, in which the most common attribute of it is that it makes my Finder display folder names as N80, N81, etc.... in replacement of titles such as 'Open Finder' and 'Empty Trash'?I have tried a few things, such as Repair Disk Permissions, restarting, and logging off, but to no success.Â
Over the years my finder windows have been set to different colors, font sizes and so on. When I make a change I select the make default box in the show view options, but they never default except for that one finder window. I have erased com.apple.finder.plist and just for fun the com.apple.sidebarlists.plist but can not get the finder to go to a true default. Is there another plist that I am missing?

I just got my computer reformatted, and lost all icon customization. I went to change them and did all successfully (most in Candybar), but the Finder has been a problem. I initially forgot how to do it, so some research said I could do it if I simply replaced the file in the System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Resources (Finder.png) path with my own of the same name. I did, but it didn't take - still blue. So then I did it through Candybar and it just disappeared from the dock. I've tried reverting the Finder.png file and nothing, as well as restoring the original icon through Candybar.
I saw one answer about booting a clone, so I researched how to do that, and can't do it on my internal for some reason. I tried an external, but it said it'd have to wipe all files first, which I won't.I should add that an archive and install isn't an option - I JUST got this fixed by Apple yesterday since I had lost my install disks, so I certainly can't do it myself.
I am able to see my server shares when I connect my bacbook pro via cable, but when i connect via wifi the network shares are not visible. a windows laptop connecting over the same wifi router can see the server shares. Does OS x 10.6 use a different port that I need to open on my wireless router?
I was going to delete something in trash and suddenly finder stopped responding. I don't want to break it. I've thought I should restart the computer or somehow fix it in disk utility... but I don't remember how...
I can still open the other programs just you know, the whole finder not responding..
