OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Get Slow Access To The Others Macs?
Jun 26, 2012
1 Mac Pro connected to a Netgear DGN2200v3 (Etnet 1) for internet connection : Etnet 2 connected to a router for internal fast network.Other 4 Macs connected to the Etnet router. The problem i get it's : if the Mac 1 is connected to the Netgear i get slow access to the others Macs, if not the sharing ( for example screen sharing ) it's fast as usual. Previously i've used another Netgear wireless Etnet modem and all was fine.I think there is a need for a internal DGN2200 settings.

Documentation included with copies of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard distributed during Apple's developer conference this week confirm that the next-generation operating system does not presently support Macs with PowerPC processors. LogicielMac.com has published a screen capture of the PDF-based requirements document included on the Snow Leopard disc that provides a rundown of the system's requirements.
The documentation states that in order to install Snow Leopard, developers must have a Mac computer with "an Intel processor" and at least 512MB of RAM, though additional memory is recommended for development purposes. The findings confirm an AppleInsider report from last September, which cited people familiar with the ongoing development of Leopard as saying that Mac OS X 10.6 would in all likelihood exclude support for PowerPC processors. According to the Snow Leopard documentation, the new system will also require an Apple-supplied video card, 9GB of hard disk space, and either an internal, external or shared DVD drive. Though users of older Intel-based Macs were led to believe they would have to spend $169 to migrate from Tiger to Snow Leopard, new reports state the $29 upgrade disc will work just fine.
In his review of Snow Leopard, Walt Mossberg of The Wall Street Journal, Mossberg reveals that those who have been hesitant to upgrade their Mac will be able to take advantage of Snow Leopard's bargain price, without the need to install the intermediate Leopard operating system first.
"For owners of Intel-based Macs who are still using the older Tiger version of the Mac OS, Apple is officially making Snow Leopard available only in a "boxed set" that includes other software and costs $169," Mossberg said. "The reasoning is that these folks never paid the $129 back in 2007 to upgrade to Leopard. But here's a tip: Apple concedes that the $29 Snow Leopard upgrade will work properly on these Tiger-equipped Macs, so you can save the extra $140."
Wired also confirmed that they were able to upgrade a system directly from Tiger to Snow Leopard. In addition, it is possible to completely erase a hard drive and install Snow Leopard without a pre-existing operating system in place, enabling users to bypass the possible headaches of an upgrade and go with a clean install instead. Wired said many users upgrading from Tiger should probably consider backing up their files from Tiger and doing a clean install instead.
"Of course, the transition isn't guaranteed to be as smooth as it would be from Leopard to Snow Leopard," the report said of the Tiger to Snow Leopard upgrade, "and that's because some older, Tiger-only third-party applications need to be upgraded to newer versions that work with Leopard or Snow Leopard."
Originally released in April 2005, Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger is more than a little long in the tooth at this point, especially considering the astounding success of its follow-up, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.

Aperture 3 runs as a 64-bit application on Mac OS X Snow Leopard on Macs with Intel Core 2 Duo processors.Does that mean that Aperture 3 won't run as a 64-bit app under OSX.6 on quad-core machines (like the top-of-the-line i5 iMac)? They can't be serious!

So, with build 10A432, I'm unable to access the files on my DNS-323 via Samba. It gives me this error ...
"The operation can't be completed because the original item for "Volume_1" can't be found."
I can access everything fine from another machine running Leopard. I believe this is a known issue with Snow Leopard, further hardening my belief that this is a very useless upgrade. The only real thing SL has got going for it, is the fact that it is cheap. That's why people will buy it, because its only $29.
Coming back to the topic, can someone suggest me a fix?
Also, if you want to debate the worthiness of SL as a $29 upgrade, please don't bother posting here. I don't want any smart fanboy comments either. Let's stick to the topic at hand.

I have another user on our network with an administrator account on my MBP, who normally logs on remotely. After upgrading to 10.6 there's no remote access to their account. When I tried to access the account from the machine, I get into the account but everything is unresponsive and the only way out is to turn the computer off using the on/off button.
Things are getting a bit desperate!

I'm the only mac user on a network full of windows machines (Mostly windows 7 but one with XP) but I cannot see a single one on my iMac running 10.6.2. I found a guide on here about changing settings on your windows 7 box, which I followed but I still cannot see the machine on my network. Nor can any windows machines see my iMac on them.
I think it might be a port issue, are there any ports which I need to open on my router? I have an O2 Wireless Box III (A rebranded thompson router)

I had to reset my password through the Install Disc. Upon restarting my Mac, I chose to reset my Keychain Access password. However, it does not seem to have updated, and when I go to Utilities to open Keychain Access, it does not open. I created another admin account, and Keychain Access does not open for that either.Â

I find it hard to believe that with all the loyalty that I've shown Apple through the years - literally thousands and thousands of dollars that I can't access iCloud through my iMac because it's not compatible with Lion. Is this true? Is there a work-around other than having to buy a newer Mac?

As you all probably have heard by now, some schools that give computers to students have been accessing the cameras in Macs to spy on the people using them. My sister is a college professor and her school gave her a Mac with a camera, how can she verify that no one has been spying on her? Is there anything she can do to prevent it from happening in the future?

I just upgraded to 10.6 the other day on my new uMBP (15" 2.66ghz, 9600 GT). I haven't had much time to play around with it yet but I realized that the wireless seemed a lot slower in snow leopard running safari.
I would have some issues with web pages loading and youtube buffering clips. Anyone else notice any difference in wireless before?
I'm pretty sure it's slower than it was in Leopard but I can't make any direct comparisons and I haven't been using my Macbook Pro for a few weeks.

This is my second time around re-installing snow leopard - clean. Why is it so slow? The spinning wheel comes up all the time, even for mundane tasks such as minimizing a window where I have to wait 10 or 15 seconds at a time. This time around I installed all the latest updates and iLife '09 - but its still as slow as ever. I also downloaded latest version of firefox.
I uses a late 2009 Macbook Pro 2.53ghz 15 inch, and previous OSX flies on this machine. I'd like to go back to OSX Leopard but I can't cause I need the latest version of iPhone SDK which only runs on snow leopard. What's going on here Apple? Your OS is unstable and slow, and there's no acknowledgement from your site whatsoever!!

My internet is brutally slow, regardless of the app, including Safari, App Store, Skype, etc.Another computer in the household has Windows and is running fine. I have tried all of the reasonable attempts to fix this that I've read about, including:Punching in new DNS codes in the Network area of System Preferences.Deleted the cache, the browser history in Safari, and disabling browser plug ins. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Flash player (as this is where the connection suffers the most, in trying to stream videos on BBC, YouTube, etc).Going into my Library then moving and deleting the ".plist" for Safari. In general, on websites or the App Store for example, what happens is -- basic text will pop up after about 3 or 4 seconds of hanging, then even the slightest bit of content, including thumbnails, take several seconds per image. Anything even slightly more intense on bandwidth, like a streaming video or Flash menu, takes forever to load, if not outright gives up on me and never loads.   My machine is on Snow Leopard, a white Macbook, OSX is currently 10.6.8, which I believe I've had for several months, but this problem is only a day or two old. If I recall correctly, I did install the latest Security Update -- whatever the new ones are circa Feb. 3rd, 2012 -- within a day or two BEFORE this problem started happening... I believe this may be the culprit but strange in that there was some time before this problem surfaced, or so it seemed.

I would like to ask on how I can connect securely to my iMac at home from my MBP when I'm travelling. I have subscribed to MobileMe, unfortunately, it is not always possible to connect using MobileMe due to technical issues (Many would have agreed that MobileMe are not reliable at times).
What I would like to achieve is the following:
1) Install either a VPN and/or SSH server in my iMac at home
2) Enable access not only my iMac but also my home network and internet connection from my home.
2) Be able to browse using my iMac or AEBS in my home network from my MBP in a secure way (similar to proxy).
I understand that I can setup SSH server and do some port forwarding with it. I need more details or tutorial on this, if you have any link that would be appreicated. Basically, I understand the idea but this would be impractical as I need to setup a lot of forwarding (one forwarding for each service).
So VPN solution may be cleaner in a way. I checked that OpenVPN.net doesn't support newer OSX anymore. Any idea how to do this? I have identified an OpenVPN client that can be used but not the server portion.

I have recently bought a Mac Book Pro. This is my first experience with a modern computer from Apple and in very first contact with Mac OS "Snow Leopard".
I am trying to configure that Mac to share the resources of my Windows XP small network at home. For that I have followed several instructions I found published on the Internet by other Mac users who were trying to do exactly the same as I am trying to do.
Unfortunately I face a quite basic problem all the time: when I follow any of the posts/ instructions, sooner or later, I cannot move forward because I cannot find where exactly the DIRECTORY ACCESS (or any functionally equivalent configuration program like that) in Mac OS Snow Leopard is located.

Recently I did a clean install on my MBP after a 4-generation-old OSX 10.6.8 TM backup got way too slow (I had used it with my old MBP, then restored to a 24" iMac, then a 27" iMac, and then to the new MBP).Â
However, with the clean install I did obviously not create the exact same user name / account I had before, so I cannot access the TM now. I'd like to extract some of the folders from that backup, mainly images I am missing and some data.Â
