OS X :: Time Capsule Error After Snow Leopard
Aug 29, 2009
I was able to install Snow Leopard without any problems - but I can't do a Time Machine backup to my Time Capsule. The drive is not recognized and I get a "25299" error which refers to a problem with my keychain. I've gone into Keychain Utility and (several times) have deleted all the Time Capsule entries, but the problem keeps replicating itself. I was able to run backups earlier today and also reset the settings on the Time Capsule, so I'm sure it's not a problem with the drive.

I plan to 'clean up' my Time Machine/Time capsule completely, whereby I want to make it impossible for third parties to recover all or part of these old backups. After I have accompished this I want to start from scratch backing up my Mac.

I cannot seem to set up Time Machine using Time Capsule on my MacBook Pro. Evidently when I initially set up AirPort Extreme, I failed to select it as the backup disc.

I was thinking of the possibility of buying the Time Capsule from Apple and install on its hard drive Snow Leopard and then use it as the main drive of my imac 27 via wifi. Is this possible? If not, would it be possible if I bought an airport express? I would buy another external hard drive, install Snow Leopard on it and then connect it to the airport express. This way it would appear online, and on preferences I would select this drive to use as the main OS drive and then unmount the internal drive of the imac.

So as I understand it, Snow Leopard is completely 64-bit meaning 32-bit apps will not run. How will Time warp/time capsule restore apps from 10.5 when you upgrade to a 10.6 machine?

It keeps saying you need a Time Capsule from '2008' to use this feature. I thought they were all from 2008+? So is this really saying it won't work with the first generation time capsule? The second generation being the one that added wideband support?

I've got a Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard installed, but it has been going sort of sluggish lately so I've decided to do a clean reinstall of Snow Leopard to try and improve things. I've got an up-to-date backup with Time Machine to my Time Capsule. When I do a clean install of Snow Leopard, will I be able to easily restore the files that I want to keep and the applications that I want to put back on my system (with their settings)?

We have a Macbook and an iMac, both on Snow Leopard. Set them up on TC for backup several months ago, and they worked for a while. Then it stopped working for no obvious reason, with the message:Â
The network backup disk could not be accessed because there was a problem with the network username or password. Open Time Machine preferences to select the network backup disck and re-enter the correct username and password.Â
Of course userame and password were correct, because, first of all, they had not been changed, and second, because I could put in the wrong pw and it immediately would reject it. As it is, it takes it, counts down for 120 seconds, and then gives the above message.Â
Bought a new Macbook Pro, using Lion, and it works with the TC, seemingly proving that all settings on the TC are still good. Tried resetting TC. Tried the Cmd-Alt-p-r reboot, but neither worked.

I've been having trouble backing up my MacBook Pro to my Time Capsule (hasn't backed up in months) so I ran Disk Utility and it gave the following error: Disk Utility stopped verifying "Hard Disk". This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk. So, if I do that, will I end up losing whatever is on my hard disk? And how do I start up the computer using the OS X disk? Just put it in and restart?

I finally upgraded to Snow Leopard. I have some older software and everything was working fine, so I delayed. I have an Intel 2 x 2.66 Dual Core. Now, I keep getting an error whenever I try to run Time Machine. So far, this is what I have done: Used disk Utility, Disk Warrior, then disk utility again (erased back up drive), then downloaded and reinstalled using the 10.6.8 combo update. Disk Utility again. Tried to backup and got the same error: The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk. Â
After reading online I downloaded and installed backup buddy (I think) Anyway, this is the error that it gives: Starting standard backup?Backing up to: /Volumes/Backup/Backups.backupdb?Backup content size: 91.4 GB excluded items size: 65.6 MB for volume Knight/Freelance?No pre-backup thinning needed: 109.60 GB requested (including padding), 364.91 GB available

I have Time Machine backing up my MacMini Snow Leopard Server to an external harddrive.  When the backup runs, it never completes, but it also does not throw an error message. It just gets stuck around 300MB or so and eventually starts over. As you can see it does not seem to backup everything. I have tried using TimeTracker to see what it might be getting stuck on but I can't really make heads or tails of it. I have even removed the old backup and started a new one. It backs up once fully (I think) and then after that it just gets stuck like this.Â
I should mention the drive it backs up is two separate partitions SnowLeopard Server Volume and PrimeRoot Volume, both of which need to be backuped. I was thinking maybe a permissions issue? But I just don't know where to look.

We're having trouble with a Time Machine backup. Twice in the last three days, the backups failed with the error message that the backup disk image is already in use.I noticed that the partition containing the backup sparse bundle is mounted twice in /Volumes -- /Volumes/X and /Volumes/X-1. The error message refers to /Volumes/X-2.The icon that appears on the desktop has not cleared as if it's still doing a backup.Looking at the sparsebundle directly gives me the "verificationstate" as 1 -- I recall reading that this is supposed to 0. Other values:
verificationdate == 2012-06-05, and VerificationExtendedSkip == false.Note that the backup drive is attached to another Mac still running Leopard. This is run fine for years over a gigabit network.

The backup disk image 'Volumes/Data/John's iMac.sparsebundle' could not be accessed(error-1).
Have tried remounting Time capsule in preferences. Have run Disc utility to verify 'Time Machine Backups'. Sparsebundle is greyed out in Disc Utility.
Time capsule has 1.37Gb free space and is connected via wireless and has a wireless express as a client. Would deleting the last back up be of assistance assuming corruption?

I just recently purchased a Time Capsule and backed up my machine while still running OS 10.5. Then I updated to Snow Leopard... however, my university just informed me that their exam software might not be compatible with SL, which means I would have to revert to 10.5 (which I have saved on the time capsule) come December for exams. A few questions:
1) This will be possible correct? I will be able to revert to the previous operating system using the back-up file?
2) Is there a way I can "lock" the oldest back-up file on time machine so that when the drive becomes full it deletes other, more recent files, to free up space but does not delete my latest (oldest) file which still has the old OS on it?

From time-to-time I obsessively reinstall Leopard on my MacBook Pro. I clone my drive to an external, install Leopard totally clean (erasing everything), and then drage back the contents of my home folders. I don't transfer anything from my Library folder, I like to start completely clean and rebuild my settings manually. Yes, I'm obsessive, like I said from before.
So now I've got my clean Leopard install. Everything is perfect. How do I back up to the existing sparseimage that's on my Time Capsule?
I realize it will be a fairly large first sync, but I'd love to still be able to grab deleted files from last October if need be.
Anyone know of settings or .plist trickery to make this happen? Can I simply choose that sparseimage in the Time Machine system preference?

I have an imac with leopard OS and a macbook pro with snow leopard on it, and I can't seem to connect the two computers. Even when they are directly connected with ethernet cable, I can see the imac but not connect with it. I can connect to the macbook from the imac, but not vice-versa. My network is ethernet through linksys WRT610 router. Repeated attempts to connect from the macbook result in "connection failed" message and "imac may not exist or is not available."

I am planning on purchasing a mac mini solely for the purpose of playing music - it will be hooked up to a hi-fi amplifier and speakers. All of the music that will be on the computer will be in lossless format, which is very large. I will need a lot (320+ GB?) of storage.
I'm wondering if I can cut costs by buying an old 80 GB mini and augmenting its hard drive with a time capsule. I was planning on buying a time capsule anyway, so I could save something like $300. My questions are: would I be able to stream music from the time capsule to the mac mini? Would I be able to import music from itunes directly onto the time capsule? If I hook the mini up to the time capsule via USB, can it serve as a hard-drive, even if my internet is down? Is it going to be much more worth my time to buck up and buy a new 320 GB mini?

Anyone know what is behind error -8084? I'm getting it when trying to copy files to or from a networked PC server which was accessible yesterday. I can view and browse the networked drive no problem. To my knowledge nothing has changed with the PC or Mac, and Event Viewer in Windows doesn't list any errors between then and now.

I'm running into an issue (a new issue) with my mbp. Every time I run the software update, it seems to download all the files just fine. Once it tries to install, it tells me an error has occurred, although it doesn't go into too much detail. I tried repairing the disk permissions, then I tried clearing /Library/Updates/.
The updates I have available are: iMovie Update 8.0.6, iPhoto Update 8.1.2, Mac OS X Update 10.6.3, Brother Printer Software Update 2.3, Airport Base Station Update 5.5.1, iTunes 9.1.1, and Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.2.
