OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Way To Save Wireless Network Passwords
Mar 29, 2012
I also have the boxed checked to remember my home wireless network and save the password. However, every time is tries to connect and the router is just out of range, it deletes the password and I need to re-enter it the next time I attempt to connect. This is very annoying, and I never had this problem in OS 10.5. I wonder how to force 10.6 to save the password, even when the connection fails due to the router being out of range. It's as though the connection fails and the OS thinks it's because the password is wrong, so it deletes it. I'm wondering how to tell it not to delete the password. I end up needing to type in my wireless password a dozen or so times a day, every time it looses the signal.

For some strange reason Leopard mail doesn't seem to want to save any of our passwords to any our accounts. We've gone into mail preferences and saved them there, but as soon as we close down mail it 'forgets' them again. We've also repaired the keychain, but the same thing happens. Anyone know of how to fix a password memory problem?

this is more of a very open ended question to see if anyone knows an answer, but I just uploaded snow leopard onto my mbp (early09) and all is great until I try and connect to my wifi, which it does but at the same time brings down the whole system so no computer can connect to the Internet the only way to fix it is to reset the wireless modem and turn off airport on the mbp. does anyone know why this might happen like hardware compitablity or is it a glitch other people are having ?

I have one of every type of the newest Macs: MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Pro. Since upgrading them to Snow Leopard, none of them will connect to any wireless network -- regardless of the router (AirPort, Linksys, Cisco, etc.) and regardless of the type of security (open, WEP, WPA, etc.).
Every time I attempt to connect, I get the message that the "connection failed." Here's a 20 second screen recording of what's happening.

After extensive Googling, I need to take a break, and find out if someone with more experience knows what I can try next...
I'm not the best when it comes to Networks, or even router configuration. I'll just put that out there, in case I've missed something obvious.
My router connection (DLink 2640B) was working perfectly fine before I upgraded to Snow Leopard. Now I cannot connect to any wireless network, and I cannot connect to the router administration page, either
(192.168.1.1).
The internet connection still works fine on two other laptops. Also, I can connect this iMac via the ethernet cable.
I've tried deleting the files NetworkInterfaces.plist, com.apple.network.identification.plist, and preferences.plist; I've tried rebooting my router; I've tried creating a new network. Airport sees all the networks, tries to connect, then it just says that it fails.

I recently moved and am connecting my iMac (2006 Intel) via the internal Airport card to a high-speed cable network here at home.
For some reason, my connection started off fine but after a few hours (sometime minutes) of browsing the web, the connection will slow to a crawl or just stop completly.Â
I've tried changing the DNS settings, turning Airport off/on, re-booting the wireless router (it's a Netgear) all to no avail.
The connection will seem to be okay and then...back to the molasses slow or no connection at all. At my previous residence, I was connecting the same way without any issues.
As an aside, there are 2 iPads, 2 iPhones and a MacBook Air all connecting to the same network without any issues whatsoever.Â

I have Snow Leopard on my new Mac. I transferred all the info from my old Mac. Unfortunately I transferred all my settings which means I have to give my password for any applications (Mail, Safari, etc.etc.) I use or whenever the computer goes to sleep or I switch applications. I can't find a way to stop this. I'm the only user of a computer here and no one else uses it. I don't mind doing it when I first go to the computer but don't want to keep giving my password whenever I do something.

1) Is there a way to make safari start a new tab when opening a link on the next tab you're watching instead of the last one?
2) When I read mails on my iPhone they don't "always" appear as read on the Mail app, is there a way to fix this? (Using Yahoo and Hotmail accounts)
3) And finally, is there a way to set a password just for when someone tries to log in remotely to my mac? I found that you could set one for start up or after going to sleep or screensaver but I don't want the password when someone enters physically to the mac but over the internet, can that be done?

Well, the title say it all. Is there a way to do it? Save all password forms without a window prompting asking for permission, etc?

I have never used Keychain. I posted elsewhere herein that I deleted my cookies and now, tho' I am logging in to all the online password-protected accounts, despite selecting "remember me" or "keep me logged in" I wind up having to log in every time I attempt to access. So I thought I'd try using Keychain to hold the passwords to make things a little more efficient until I (if ever) solve the cookie problem. I deleted the old keychain and created a new one. When I restarted the computer, since I have Goggle Notifier, the first thing it asked me was if I wanted to store the Gmail password in the keychain which I created—yes—no problem with Gmail. I went to the other accounts and logged in, assuming Keychain would ask me if I wanted to store the password for that online account in Keychain as well, but I got no screen enabling me to do that.Â

I bought my first MacBook three weeks ago and was using Firefox for the first two but then I decided to switch to Safari. I love it but I have a couple of questions/problems. I did google it but found mixed responses.1) Safari sometimes doesn't save passwords, even does't ask me if I'd like to.It shows every time I launch Safari. I'm deleted Saft (used AppTrap) but looks like there are sill some files left.

When I arrive at my office and turn on my MB Air, it does not always connect to my wireless network, it sometimes connects to an un-secured wireless network locaterd somewhere else in the building. Is there a way to force Lion to always connect to a specfic network and ignore others?

I click print and mail locks up and I have to force quit It's supposed to open a print dialog box in which I should be able to click PDF in the lower left corner... but I can't get that far. I have just recently upgraded to Lion and created a Snow Leopard partition to run some of my old pieces of music software. I've got a bit of annoying problem where I can't chnge the mouse preferences in the Snow Leopard partition. I can change the dropdown boxes to set the right click etc. and they stay populated all the while that System Preferences is open. However, the funcitonality of the buttons does not change and when closing and re-opening System Preferences the dropdowns are populated with the default options again.Â
I've tried deleting SystemPreferences.plist but this hasn't helped. EDIT: I've also removed the Documents and Downloads stacks from my dock and since restarting these have appeared again. As has the System Preferences icon in the Dock. It seems to be more widespread than just mouse preferences.Â

I cannot modify then save or create a new Applescript and save it on my MacPro. I get an error message saying I don't have permission. To view or change permissions select the item in the Finder then chose File > Get Info. When I do that, and enter my pass phrase to unlock the lock at the bottom right of the Get Info window I can do that, but I cannot change the Privileges and I wouldn't know what to change them to anyway.
If it helps, I'm running off a drive that used to be my backup drive and the info on it was copied by Carbon Copy Cloner. Also, I recent reinstalled the OS because the machine wasn't booting from the drive reliably. After the reinstallation I ran Disk Warrior, Disk Utility (permissions and repair), optimized the drive with DiskTools Pro and checked its SMART status.
I should add that if I restart off my main drive I can change and save scripts. But I don't want to use that drive as my main drive anyore as I upgraded it to Lion which I don't like (Lion killed my most important applications).

Interesting... at the same time as Magic mouse comes into stock (well, in UK Apple stores, anyhow), Apple release the "Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0 for Leopard" & "Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0 for Snow Leopard".
Here are direct links to the installer disk images, to save you time - even if you don't yet have a Magic mouse, you can install the software now to save time later:

I also found it interesting, how the mouse icon has changed into a Magic mouse in System Preferences:

Several times when I turn on my laptop the date regresses to 2003 or around there. When this happens the preferred network is no longer saved and I must re-enter the information. The printer that I got specifically to work with my laptop can no longer scan documents to my Mac and the settings were never changed, I'm really at a loss. My Mac is also running really slow.Â

Having an issue where Preview is crashing at the end of a Save As (hangs briefly when the progress bar is full, then crashes) -- happens pretty consistently. Running 10.6.1 (on top of a fresh 10.6 install), but happened in 10.6 as well, though perhaps not as often. Have plenty of memory.
One snippet of the crash report:
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000010
Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
I have a vague feeling that the issue might not be in Preview, per se, but in the OS.

Is there a work around how can preview save a locked JPG file? PNG's can do a save as in preview even if is locked.Â
here is the error below.Â
the reason why i want to find out is because outlook saves their attachment files locked and if i open them in preview, i cannot do a save as on JPGs.Â
i have not tried any other image viewer to automatically open the attachments and save them. PNG attachements behave alright so why can't JPGs?
