OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Unable To Save Applescript
May 14, 2012
I cannot modify then save or create a new Applescript and save it on my MacPro. I get an error message saying I don't have permission. To view or change permissions select the item in the Finder then chose File > Get Info. When I do that, and enter my pass phrase to unlock the lock at the bottom right of the Get Info window I can do that, but I cannot change the Privileges and I wouldn't know what to change them to anyway.
If it helps, I'm running off a drive that used to be my backup drive and the info on it was copied by Carbon Copy Cloner. Also, I recent reinstalled the OS because the machine wasn't booting from the drive reliably. After the reinstallation I ran Disk Warrior, Disk Utility (permissions and repair), optimized the drive with DiskTools Pro and checked its SMART status.
I should add that if I restart off my main drive I can change and save scripts. But I don't want to use that drive as my main drive anyore as I upgraded it to Lion which I don't like (Lion killed my most important applications).
Word 2008, Excel 2008, and Powerpoint 2008 are unable to save to windows shares when saving a file in compatiblity mode such as a .doc file. It saves fine saving the files in the new xml format such as a .docx file. I have double checked the share permissions and they are fine since I can save in the new document format and in other applications such as dragging and dropping files in finder. The error message I get when trying to save to a windows share from Word is as follows....
I have a applescript that sometimes hangs (this is on a blind server). reason is that the application (JSMS, it sends text messages via my mobile phone account) can not connect to the server. it than pops a message saying so, but as a result the script does hang and interferes with other stuff.
is there a way to have the script stop (would 'try if' do this?) or alternative is to force quit this script after 10 minutes with an other script.

I can't risk data storage in the clouds due to the possibility (however remote) that someone's personal info might get compromised. Nor can I risk the cloud being down and not being able to access files/date when needed (which can sometimes be at the strangest of times).I have several iMacs integrated wirelessly. Every time we (I) update a doc, it needs to be manually transferred to other computers for staff who will need it. That's no big deal. What is worrisome is if a recent version of a doc were to get corrupted due to a HD failure, a corruption on an iMac, or whatever else. We all have TM and Super Duper clones that are scheduled regularly. What I'd like to be able to do is simultaneously have docs backed up on an external in real time, as they are saved on an internal.Unless I'm missing something I can't find, it seems the only way to do this is to save to the HD, and then save to an external. That seems like a lot of manual redundancy, and invites forgetfulness. So all being said, is there an Apple Script out there anyone is aware of that would tell the iMac to automatically save a copy of every file that is modified to an external, so that the external is a "current" version of the internal for data retrieval purposes?
I selected all the emails in a mailbox. Opened a new email, clicked in the body and click edit>append something or other. All the selected emails from the mailbox appeared in the new email. I click print and mail locks up and I have to force quit It's supposed to open a print dialog box in which I should be able to click PDF in the lower left corner... but I can't get that far. How can I save these emails as a PDF?
Is there a autosave app for snow leopard kinda like the auto-save for lion? Since I do alot of illustrator and photo-shop design I would love to have this feature.
I have just recently upgraded to Lion and created a Snow Leopard partition to run some of my old pieces of music software. I've got a bit of annoying problem where I can't chnge the mouse preferences in the Snow Leopard partition. I can change the dropdown boxes to set the right click etc. and they stay populated all the while that System Preferences is open. However, the funcitonality of the buttons does not change and when closing and re-opening System Preferences the dropdowns are populated with the default options again.Â
I've tried deleting SystemPreferences.plist but this hasn't helped. EDIT: I've also removed the Documents and Downloads stacks from my dock and since restarting these have appeared again. As has the System Preferences icon in the Dock. It seems to be more widespread than just mouse preferences.Â

When ever I move any file to the trash, or choose delete from the file menu. Snow Leopard always warns me that this file will be deleted immediately and can not be recovered. How do I get the trash to function again?
Having an issue where Preview is crashing at the end of a Save As (hangs briefly when the progress bar is full, then crashes) -- happens pretty consistently. Running 10.6.1 (on top of a fresh 10.6 install), but happened in 10.6 as well, though perhaps not as often. Have plenty of memory.
One snippet of the crash report: Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000010 Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread I have a vague feeling that the issue might not be in Preview, per se, but in the OS.
Image Capture in Snow Leopard defaults to saving to the Pictures folder, but I want to change it to the Desktop instead. If I simply change it in the app, close it, and open it again, it reverts back to the Pictures folder.
Is there a work around how can preview save a locked JPG file? PNG's can do a save as in preview even if is locked.Â
here is the error below.Â
the reason why i want to find out is because outlook saves their attachment files locked and if i open them in preview, i cannot do a save as on JPGs.Â
i have not tried any other image viewer to automatically open the attachments and save them. PNG attachements behave alright so why can't JPGs?
I also have the boxed checked to remember my home wireless network and save the password. However, every time is tries to connect and the router is just out of range, it deletes the password and I need to re-enter it the next time I attempt to connect. This is very annoying, and I never had this problem in OS 10.5. I wonder how to force 10.6 to save the password, even when the connection fails due to the router being out of range. It's as though the connection fails and the OS thinks it's because the password is wrong, so it deletes it. I'm wondering how to tell it not to delete the password. I end up needing to type in my wireless password a dozen or so times a day, every time it looses the signal.
Just recently have been unable to save or print PDF documents from two different websites using either Safari or FireFox on Snow Leopard (10.6). The same websites can be accessed, saved or printed on a different computer using Safari and Lion (10.7).
I am using ms word mac 11.6.6 with mac OSX 10.6.8 and two times now I have edited a document, tried to save it and it froze up. The error message is "command is not available b/c the document is in modal state".
How can I purge my print settings via .plist or other so I can change my paper size? No matter what I select, preview application 'refreshes' my print values to a fixed 8.5x11 that applies a second border to my pdf and pushes everything down the page. Borderless 8.5x11 just won't stay as the value even though my printer has done this before. Worked fine prior, but now it just will not take a new page size.
Is anyone having trouble with Microsoft Office since installing the latest 10.6.9 software update? Suddenly I can't save a document or even quit any of the applications, though they open and can display existing documents.
Did OS X 10.7 do away with the ability to save Applescripts as run-only? I just noticed that all my scripts compiled and saved previously as "run only" now have the Rosetta prohibitory symbol on them.Is there a work-around for saving Applescripts as run-only? I prefer to open Applescript, run the compiled script in the background, then quit.
I have been unable to save or save as in any of the programs, when I try and save which ever application I am in, crashes. I have not had this issue happen before. I have googled it and I get results relating to print spooling ( on pc). I would like to know how I can set print spooling on macs.
Am having lots of Mail issues today, but besides not being able to receive messages, the ones I have gotten with attachments, when you pull down the "save" attachment button, the font is a bunch the letter A in a box. Any way to change to the default font. Have tried changing the font in the preferences, but it doesn't seem to change that area. Cannot read what the attachments even are.

I know nothing about applescript and so have no clue how to do this. I tried googling a script but couldn't find one. I also saw similar posts on this topic, but couldn't find scripts. I am looking for a simple applescript to go into the Mail app rules to reply with an email message with an image attachment. Where I can find that script? Again, I know nothing about applescript.
I have a rule that copies an email to the ON MY MAC and then another that MOVES TO A FOLDER in Mobileme. They are in this order. The problem is when I quit Mail the Folder I am copying to is changed to the Mobileme folder so I end up with a duplicate. It doesn't change until Mail is quit. The other odd part, there one arragement like this that did savef at some point and works as expected.Â
I have tried having both of these rules combined into 1 and have the same results.
