I am using ms word mac 11.6.6 with mac OSX 10.6.8 and two times now I have edited a document, tried to save it and it froze up. The error message is "command is not available b/c the document is in modal state".

Having an issue where Preview is crashing at the end of a Save As (hangs briefly when the progress bar is full, then crashes) -- happens pretty consistently. Running 10.6.1 (on top of a fresh 10.6 install), but happened in 10.6 as well, though perhaps not as often. Have plenty of memory.

Is anyone having trouble with Microsoft Office since installing the latest 10.6.9 software update? Suddenly I can't save a document or even quit any of the applications, though they open and can display existing documents.

I need to save a document from word as a pdf to add to a webpage. When I choose "save as" >pdf, I get the error that the header and footer are outside the printable margins... if I continue, it doesn't just cut off the footer, it cuts off about an inch an a half of the document.
I've reset the margins in word to accommodate the entire thing, but it still cuts it off in pdf format. I've searched for other answers, but it seems that people have more printing issues, not just saving issues.
How do I save a document in "Microsoft Word". The options for saving a doc. no longer say, "Save as a Microsoft Doc."

View 5 Replies View Relatedi just basically screwed it up. When i started writing it i first saved in .odt and later i saved it in .txt and unicode format. I thought everything's gonna be fine so i deleted the .odt files and had cleared the trash bin but that's where the nightmare began.
I went to the printing shop to get the essays to be printed but their windows computer couldn't "read" the chinese characters and it all turns out as "?" sign. I thought it was only a windows problem but when i went back to open it in my MBP, it's all "?" too. So i quickly installed a data recover program and i am just praying that i can recover the .odt files I would be dead if my essays are totally lost. Anyway, the question is: What extension is best to save a Chinese word document? AND, I just deleted the .odt files yesterday, do you think there's still a chance for it to be recovered?
I cannot save a document in Word or Word-compatible form. The only options I am given in File is "Save a Version," which does not provide for saving in Word. How do I do this?

I am able to start a new document but if I try to save it all of the action/editing buttons fade/unhighlight (save, print, quit, copy paste, etc) and I am ubable to do anything. how to embed an image with a link, or embed a Microsoft Word document with a hyperlink built within the document -- not as an attachment into my email -- but where it shows as the email content when opened! Does ANYONE know the secret? Can it be done, or not? My PC clients do it all the time easily. I have a Mac OS X version 10.5.7 i am working on Word 2008 for Mac, version 12.0.1 (080305).
My problem, i created one text box in a document, somehow 2 more appeared. I made the mistake of thinking that to delete the extra text boxes, i simply highlight them and delete them. Silly stupid me, nothing that simple exists and i have wasted an hour trying to figure it out. The help button does squat, barely gives you any info on a text box much less trying to delete it. Does anyone know how to delete a text box in a word document?
I use the Command 1, Command 2 keys in QuickTime Pro a lot to resize windows, but all of the sudden those key combos don't function at all. All Command key shortcuts seem to have left the computer.Â
Not reboot nor Repair Disk Permissions helps. Did I accidentally trigger something with a typo?

Since Tiger and even more so with Leopard, I have found the 'Force Quit' command to be a pointless white elephant.
When the spinning beachball hits it tends to make the application unresponsive and then spread to all other apps. Attempting to bring up the force quit function is equally fruitless. Of course, by the time it eventually pops up, the offending application has either quit itself (I'm looking at you Adobe CS4) or has become responsive again (I'm looking at you Safari).
Has anyone noticed any improvement in Snow Leopards?

whenever I try almost any command at Terminal, I come across an annoying message like:
-bash: unzip: command not found
this is a sample for i tried unzip, but it happens for so many other command as well
so what is that? do I need to install anything to make terminal work with these commands?
mysqld has a ton of really nice startup options to help me debug my app. However I cannot figure out how to shutdown and restart MySQL from the command line and pass these options to mysqld.Snow Leopard and MySQL 5.1.56 MySQL Community Server. Â

I'm using OSX Snow Leopard. Spotlight was unable to find a document in a folder. It found several others that have almost the same name, but not the one I was looking for. By scrolling down in the finder window I found it without spotlight right away.Â
To better explain my problem:
I was looking for a document that was called "Paperless". Spotlight found several document in different folders like "Paperlessone", Paperless2" etc. But not able to find "Paperless"Â
I checked the Spotlight options and it says, that it is looking for everything.

Anyone noticed when making Combined pdf files (into single document) that Acrobat Pro only shows the first page, and not the full document. Meaning that one has to manually pull the sidebar down to scroll other pages? My install went perfectly, aside from a few minor glitches, Illustrator and Photoshop (CS4) quit now and again, but removed permissions, restarted and repaired permissions and is a lot more manageable now.
Safari and Mail are almost twice as fast now. Let's see how soon 10.6.1 appears.
Not too long ago I looked through the list of things I had put in the Trash. Some how I over looked a document I should have removed from the Trash and Empetyed Trash. There is some way to locate what has been empteyed from the Trash and get it onto the Desktop. How do I do that?Â
I have not Secured Empty Trash... so my document should still be able to be found and removed from the Emptey Trash.
