the reason why i want to find out is because outlook saves their attachment files locked and if i open them in preview, i cannot do a save as on JPGs.Â
i have not tried any other image viewer to automatically open the attachments and save them. PNG attachements behave alright so why can't JPGs?
You used to be able to drag and drop pages from one Preview document to another. That feature is not longer available. Is there anyway to combine PDF documents into one file now?

View 16 Replies View RelatedI've had a fairly unusual problem since about 10.5.4 (on 10.5.8 now). My iMac, when connected to any other Leopard Mac, shows up as two computers in finder under "shared". Have a look at the attached pic. It shows its normal name as it should, but then it has the BSOD Windows icon (which represents a shared PC) with the name "mac001b63a6fc3b". Why would it do this? Does anyone know how to get this away?

Snow Leopard's Preview can no longer do a search for dollar amounts accurately. This worked just fine in Leopard, but no longer works in Snow Leopard. Go ahead and download a PDF of your most recent bank statement, or any PDF that has a bunch of dollar amounts in it. Then, do a find for one of the dollar amounts. For example, do a find for: 50.00
Preview will no longer find a match for 50.00... instead, it will find any instance of "50" or "00" in your entire PDF file. It uses the decimal point as some sort of a delimiter, and it makes Preview believe that you are doing 2 completely separate searches.
I have a problem with my internal SuperDrive where it is saying that blank DVD's are not writable. When I insert a blank disk the Mac recognises it is a blank disc as the Blank DVD Options box appears but when I actually go to burn a disk the burn will start then immediately fail saying the disk isn't writable. From Disk Utility I get the following info from a blank disk: MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-85J:Firmware Revision:FEW7 Interconnect: [code] It doesn't matter what brand of disk I buy (have tried Verbatim, Bulkpaq, Sony, Tesco & Asda) I get the same issue. All these disks have then worked fine in my girlfriends PC (yuk!) laptop so I don't think it is the disks themselves that are at fault and the fact it is happening with different brands points to a problem with the drive rather than the disks. The drive seems to be working ok as it will play DVD's ok.

In the last few days, when I hit a key to start up the computer, all I will get is a blank screen with the small, multi-colored, rotating disk icon. I can't get out of this unless I hold the power key down for about 5 seconds, which I know is probably not the right way to shut down.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI opened a PDF to crop some parts of the file and there are two big issues:
1. I cannot crop multiple pages anymore. There just isn't that option in Inspector or anywhere else. I can only crop one page at a time.
2. Not only can I not crop more than one page at a time, but cropping doesn't actually delete the date. I can go to "View | PDF Display | Crop Box" and see what I just cropped!
Is there a way to downgrade the Preview application in Snow Leopards. Just because i don't like the Insta Alfa in the new Preview
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince I upgraded to Snow Leopard, I've been noticing that Preview does not display images. A box will open and the background will be there, but no picture. I can scan images, and the automatic preview image that pops up is blank. I can download images from the internet, and they will appear as icons on my desktop, but when I double click them I get an appropriately sized blank Preview box. I can save the image to a thumb drive and put it on my girlfriend's computer (we run identical iMacs, for reference), and it will appear on her computer, but she is using the Adobe suite.

I have a lot of multipage pdf's that I need to reduce in file size. They are scanned pdf's so no actual editable content.
If i select a page and 'save as' I can save to jpeg where I can reset the dpi of the page (currently 300dpi). This is Fine, but I need to do it to all the pages of the pdf. If I select all pages 'save as' will only save out one page and not all.
If I print and choose 'pdf to jpeg', It will save out all pages but I don't get the ability to reduce to dpi and the output jpgs are still huge. Is there a way to save to pages out in one go to jpeg where I can adjust the dpi setting?
I have tried using the reduce file size option, but the resulting pdf has lost too much quality and is unreadable. Once I have the reduced jpegs it's easy enough to reimport into preview and save as a pdf.Â

I'm a newbie here but wonder if the above AppleInsider statement is true. I installed Snow Leopard over my existing Leopard w/out a hitch. Earlier OS X retail DVD versions clearly distinguished between "Install" and "Upgrade" - correct?. I'm confused where I read Snow Leopard required an existing OS (Leopard or Tiger) to install. It appears Snow Leopard is a "full install" DVD?
Since installing SL, as many know, many older screensavers no longer work. I looooved this Blank Screen Saver [URL], and if anyone could tell me how I could use the same thing, or something incredibly similar, I'd be very very grateful.

Just noticed that the parental controls is missing. The tab is there in system prefs and I've tried 2 different admin accounts but when selected all I get is a blank area with Parental Controls across the top, no tabs nothing. I'm using 10.6.8 on a 2 yr old IMac.

Every time I try to install a software program onto my computer (Mac OS X 10.6.8), a blank permission screen pops us, with NO TEXT appearing. When I try to type in the information i think it's asking me, nothing shows up, as if my keyboard has been disabled. I have a Rev A MBA with the 64GB SSD, and am just wondering why it shows the capacity as ~60GB under Snow Leopard, when I'd thought it was supposed to show the capacity as it is marketed as, i.e. as 64GB? I read somewhere that there is also some capacity taken up by partitioning, but doesn't 4GB taken up by partitioning seem like a lot? I just thought I should ask since I don't really understand... I found another thread but then it seemed like the person only lost 1GB due to partitioning, and that was on a 1TB drive, meaning they were loosing far less of the drive's capacity as a % than I seem to be. Finder shows the capacity of my SSD as 59.68GB, System Profiler as 60.02 GB (60,022,480,896 bytes), and Disk Utility as 60.02GB. Just to make it clear I understand all the base 10 vs. base 2 stuff, it's just that under base 10 in 10.6 I don't understand why my SSD doesn't show up as 64GB.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHaving an issue where Preview is crashing at the end of a Save As (hangs briefly when the progress bar is full, then crashes) -- happens pretty consistently. Running 10.6.1 (on top of a fresh 10.6 install), but happened in 10.6 as well, though perhaps not as often. Have plenty of memory.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a PDF that I scanned in myself and the first time I printed it it printed just the way it was supposed to. The next time I opened up the file in preview it looked normal on my screen but when I went to print it the output in the printer had the colors inverted. I have tried printing from preview and adobe acrobat and it printed the same the blacks came out white and the whites came out black. So I tried printing it from a windows computer and the file printed as it should, the colors were normal not inverted.

i am constantly having a problem when i try and print a smallish image with Preview /automatically/ checking the Scale to Fit Paper Size and when i /uncheck/ this by clicking in the "Scale" radio button it /automatically/ enters the percent scale factor that would be required if I wanted to scale to fit to paper (e.g. 184%). Since I /don't/ want this scale (I already unchecked this option) I MANUALLY enter "100" in this box and - well - it prints out scale to fit to paper size /anyway/. i am using the Print Selected Image but the Print option behaves in the same way. Also, Auto Rotate (which defaults to AutoRotate with no option - "bad Preview, bad") has no effect on this. i have taken to pulling down to four or nine images to a page in order to get my images printed smaller, even though they never print out at 100%.Â
