View 4 RepliesI am a pretty experienced Mac user but have never ran into this problem. My iDisk icon in the sidebar of the Finder window doesn't have an eject button. Any disk or other removable drive gives me the eject button but not the iDisk. I am running on the latest version of Tiger (10.4.5) and a 12" 1.25GHz iBook G4 with 1.25GB Ram. I know those stats really don't make a difference, except for maybe the OS, but just in case anyone was wondering.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI clicked the little jellybean thing on the top right, and it only makes the menubar appear and disappear, but the sidebar is still gone.i don't have a little dot on the left hand side so i have nothing to drag. i checked my finder preferences and the folders are still checked.but even after all that... still no side bar.

I am running Snow Leopard on an iMac (intel). Obvious things like preferences/Sidebar checked (all items in there ticked including Devices, Shared, Places, etc).

In my Finder window the Shared Section is missing. Its even checked under Finder>Preferences>Sidebar. Do I need to edit something in my Library. If so, what file? in what folder? I rebooted, reset, etc to no avial.

Some of my custom icons in the finder sidebar have been replaced by a generic icon (dog-eared white paper icon), sometimes they come back when you click on them.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy MBP and MacBook don't show up on my "SHARED" sidebar on my Mac Pro, which is running 10.5.8. But the Pro shows up on both laptops, and I can connect to it from both. The Pro shows a PC in the house when it's on, so it's working for that. But I can't get my Macs from it.

I have added a new mailbox called archive in mail and selected "On My Mac". I was expecting that it would show up in my sidebar under "On My Mac", but nothing shows.
I tried recreating the mailbox and I get an error that it already exists.Â
I am not syncing with iCloud so I know that is not the issue.Â
How do I get "On My Mac" mailboxes to show in the app?Â

Over the last few days I've noticed a problem with missing icons. It seems to mainly effect icons in the Trash but I have one or two missing icons for videos and apps within the Finder and on the Desktop. The icon is completely gone - I have to click on the filename to select it. Quicklook works OK (for video).
I can't think of anything I've installed that would have done it except Onyx, but I haven't run that in weeks. I did repair permissions a few days ago but I doubt that could break this. It persists after a reboot. I can't get it to happen on command, it just randomly occurs. Creating a New Folder always works OK.
This is a strange one I can't seem to fix by deleting preferences or anything. On a ''normal'' Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard, in the ''Shared'' part of the Finder sidebar, when you mount a drive a little round gray eject button appears beside it. On one single account on my Mac running Leopard 10.5.8 this strange thing happens where it does not appear--all of the other accounts work properly. How do I restore this? I've deleted the Finder preferences as well as the sidebar preferences, force relaunched Finder.

I tried to GTFA but could not find a solution to this anywhere and I guess there is no solution. how to lock the items that appear on the Finder's sidebar?
We put a network folder in the sidebar for students to submit their work and kids keep removing it.
i may have pressed something and ive lost a bit of my finder shown in the picture...and how i want it to look,
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have had an app called Total Finder installed, they recently did an update, which caused me to have sidebar problems. I have since deleted this app, because I couldn't work without my sidebar.
After deleting the app, and re-launching finder, I now have no sidebar, no options, search box or back buttons in my finder window, and my folders open in new windows when the 'always open folders in new windows' box is unticked.
How do I get it back? Tonight my finder sidebar has disappeared and I can't work out how to get it back. When I open Finder there is no side bar showing my HD, Apps, Docs, Movies, etc. Don't know where it's gone or how to get it back.
View 4 Replies View Relatedfor some reason a different Mac mini than what I originally had setup still lingers in my Finder's sidebar.
How do I get rid of it? It won't let me log in with my password or anything. I don't want to see it anymore, given that it's unaccessible seemingly.
When I try to drop a file or folder in the sidebar i get the sign of stopping restriction (German: Halteverbotszeichen).Â
I already tried restarting in several modes and resetting ... no Change.Â

I added some folders in finder sidebar a while back, and suddenly, they disappeared, such as the documents shortcut. When I try to put them back, finder removes it again. Also if I go to Finder - Preferences and try to check the documents shortcut to appear in sidebar again, the checkbox doesn't work. I'm pretty sure this happened after I synchronized my iPhone for the first time. How can I add favorites to the finder sidebar again?

one of the most convenient things for me as a photoshopper about Snow Leopard was to be able to have sort cuts in the finder side bar under "Places" so i could just drag the image i wanted to open to the left onto the App icon and it would open it from there. NOW I have drag it to the dock to open or open the dropdown menu... both slower. I am not happy about this.... Is there a way to get this function back... I have looked and looked and can't find it!Â

My finder window's sidebar appears to be locked and I cannot resize it. I've read that when putting my mouse in the line between the sidebar and the files area to the right it should change to a bar cursor that I can then use to resize the sidebar. But the cursor never changes when I do this so I cannot resize the sidebar. Any suggestions to re-enable this?

Today I tried to change the finder icon in the dock. Because I'm cheap, I dont have candybar, so I tried to use liteicon. While this changed the finder icon in messages like "do you want to empty trash," it did not change it on the dock, even after logging out and relaunching the dock.
So I went into a bunch of core services and replaced all the finder .icns and .pngs with the one I wanted to use. When I relaunched the dock, the finder was invisible, but it still had the little blue "open" dot below where it was.I downloaded the candybar trial to try to fix it, but even candybar didn't get the icon back.
I'm using 10.5.8. Where are all the places the finder icon should be to show up?
I've googled and search here, and I just can't find the answer to this.
I renamed one of my computers at home. Now both instances of it show up in the Shared section of the finder sidebar and I can't remove the old one. When I do a Get Info, it shows as a PC Server, but I can't actually access anything on it. Is there any way to keep this from showing up?
In Leopard the Finder sidebar text was always too small. Is there a way to control the font size in Snow Leopard, maybe through the Terminal if anyone knows? Apple made everything else resizable in the new Finder but I can't figure out the sidebar text.

After performing a Time Machine restoration, the "Places" list in the Finder sidebar contains a folder icon that can not be selected or deleted. It does not appear on the list of places to show in Finder Preferences, so there is nothing to uncheck. How do I get rid of this erroneous icon?

How do you change the icons in the Finder's sidebar? For no apparent reason, Apple took away the ability to add custom folders or color to the sidebar, but I'm hoping for a workaround.

Have become aware that the Network Folder is not showing up in the Finder Sidebar.
Have attempted to select the Network folder and use the 'Add to sidebar' but the Add function is greyed out when selecting the network folder,
The network folder used to be in the sidebar so not sure what happened.

Sometimes I simply cannot open a new finder window. If I use Command-N or if I choose New Finder Window in the Finder menu, nothing happens. If I am using Command-N, I can see the File heading in the Finder menu bar highlighting, and then after a few seconds the highlight goes, but no window opens. Also, clicking on my Downloads icon in the dock, the dialog opens showing all the files, but if I then click on Open in Finder, the dialog closes but nothing happens. Now that I am writing this message, it all works again! That's what I mean by 'sometimes'. This issue can last for tens of minutes. Secndly, and this is still a problem, my finder Preferences do not stick. So for instance, I don't want to see an icon for my hard disk on the desktop, so I untick this in Finder preferences. The icon disappears. If I now re-start, then it comes back. The same happens for removing the empty trash warning and all of the other Finder Preference tick boxes.Â
Now, when the first problem of not being able to open a finder window suddenly stopped being a problem, the icon for the hard disk suddenly appeared on my desktop. So the two issues are linked. This has been going on intermittently for a few days. I have verified my disk, and repaired permissions.
