When I turn it on I get the welcome bong but the screen just stays grey and there's a non ending beep sound coming from it. What can I do?

About a week ago I enabled FV1. Overnight, the encryption and deletion of the original folder appeared to complete.However, I now have a never ending 'Secure Erase' process showing up in Activity monitor. By never-ending, I mean its always there, although as far as I can tell the secure erase process finished days ago (and surely, on 54GB home folder, it shouldn't take this long anyway). In any case, Finder shows my disk space as freed already.I'm not experiencing any lag in the system, no increased fan speed or temp; in fact, the only way I know its happening is because it
i. appears in AM and Top
ii. it strips the life out of my battery when I'm not on AC Power.
I've tried re-booting to no effect. I've even tried killing the process but it just restarts itself.In Finder from within Snow Leopard, I see two home folder images. There is one with a home icon that appears to be an alias. 'Get Info' says it has 0MB size. There is another 'no access' folder whose size is indeterminate, as Finder never completes the 'Calculating' process.However, looking at these same two folders from Lion (on another partition), the folder with the home icon shows up as a 54GB sparse bundle. The folder with no access remains inaccessible and of indeterminate size.The issue is not critical. If the worst comes to the worst I can wipe this disk and re-install from a clone, but I'd rather find a better solution, if possible.

Had to force quit a number of applications to shut down computer, restarted it but froze on opening. Shut down with the power button and now it won't get past Gray screen with rotating dial (thingy)...tried the safe boot option but this seemed to get stuck after identifying some issues.

I have been trying for weeks to do a software update from 10.6.7 to 10.6.8. Whenever I install the update and restart my computer, I get the apple logo loading screen and then it locks up on the infamous blank gray screen. I have been able to get back to 10.6 with the install CD, and can then update all the way to 10.6.7 I have tried everything listed here:[URL]To no avail . including a clean install When I start up in verbose mode the last line of text I get is the following, after this it's the gray screen:

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use three Macs. This is an IMac 24 on Leopard. But the problem also happens on the other Macs, one of which is on Tiger and the other Snow Leopard. I repeatedly get a Mail propt to give my password. If I give it or if I just hit "cancell" the problem continues. If I hit cancel and immediately hit "get mail," everything works. I should also note that this has been happening the last three weeks. Before that I had no trouble, but earlier still I had this same problem. I did nothing to cause it to go away. Our Ipads have no difficulty.

I have tried to install leopard on my Macbook Pro. It just takes me to the gray boot screen with the apple logo in the center and the circle status bars. It won't leave this screen. Stayed there all last night. Every time I reboot it goes here and won't advance. I can't eject the disk either.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo, today I tried to install windows through boot camp assistant on my mac. When it got to partitioning my drive I got an error that my hard drive needed repairing. So I opened up disk utility and clicked verify disk (I can't click repair) and got this error Disk Utility stopped verifying �Chris Hard Drive� because the following error was encountered: Filesystem verify or repair failed. I then researched this and learned to fix the problem I must boot from my leopard install disk and use the DU from their. Unfortunately I don't have access to the disk. But I have the install disk from my old macbook (the white one) so I used this. I put in the disk and shut down. When I turn it on I hold C but all I get is a grey screen but with out the apple logo. When I try turning it out holding alt I don't get the option of the CD just Chris Hard Drive. But when I boot up holding D i do get to the hardware test screen but I get the error that's something like "Hardware test does not support this hardware". Will the Leopard install of a different type of macbook not work on my new macbook pro (13" aluminium)?

View 14 Replies View RelatedWhen I switched my iMac on this morning, I went to the other side of the room to gather some paperwork and as I was doing so, I heard a microwave-like beep come on during the user login screen. It was only a fraction of a second long and didn't repeat, but it has concerned me.
I know that these iMacs beep for RAM issues, so I tested the RAM firstly by trying to utilize all of the RAM which seemed successful, then with TechTool Deluxe and finally with Memtest, both of the latter are showing that RAM is okay, but I will continue testing throughout the day in different modes and so on.
The screen to my MacBook Pro screen wont turn on and when I push the power button it just makes a 3 beep sound repeatedly. Is there any way t. Fix this or should I go to the store?

When viewing a page of anything, my screen reverts to the previous screen I was viewing. Also when looking at a map with zoom and out zoom the controls are of their own mind and always go to the max adjustment bypassing the incremental changes I want. Its very annoying.Â

View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter updating from 10.5.8 to 10.6.1 I was not able to use screen sharing any more to connect to a machine running 10.5.8. If I click on "Share Sreen..." in finder, by default my short name is used (e.g. jwhite) Using the correct password I was faced with the message: (Authentication failed to "...".) Please verify you have entered the correct name and password. This worked fine in Leopard to Leopard. Snow Leopard to Leopard did not work. Trying a lot of things I managed to use screen sharing without a problem by using the full name (e.g. John White instead of jwhite)
