OS X :: Snow Leopard Finder - No More Contextual Menu Entry

Sep 13, 2009

So I found an Automator script that let me compress in the Rar format. I created the correct folders (~/Library/Workflows/Applications/Finder/) and went to see if I could compress just some folders but I have no "More.." contextual menu entry. In Leopard I had it. How am I supposed to use Automator workflows now? Am I alone in not having this entry? I have the 10.6.1 update installed.

OS X :: More Finder Contextual Menu Isn't There

Feb 8, 2010

I was recently looking at an Automator example and found that I do not have a 'More' finder contextual menu. My contextual menu has the following instead: Also, the Automator tutorial describes the ability to save a workflow as a Finder plug-in and I do not have that option in Automator. I am on OS X 10.6.2.

OS X :: Double Entry Applications On "Open With Menu" In Snow Leopard

Oct 24, 2009

I'm having a little bug on Snow Leopard and I wonder if any of you may have the solution to fix it. When I choose a file and I go to the Open with menu, I see that there's a double entry for some applications. (Real Player, VLC) Is there a way to clear this so it only shows one single entry of the applications and why does this happens?

OS X :: Missing Items From Contextual Menus In Snow Leopard?

Sep 21, 2009

Please take a quick look at the attached screenshots.

One screenshot shows the contextual menu (Ctrl-click or Right-clik) of the selected png image file on my desktop.

The other screenshot shows the "services" menu (Finder—>Services) for the same file.

I believe that normally the two screenshots should show the exact same set of services available for that file. However, as you can see, the contextual menu is missing one service, namely the mail.app service that attaches the selected file to a new mail message.

How come? This is driving me crazy because the missing service is one I use regularly, and I hate having to dig into the menu structure to find it every time. Right-clicking is just so much faster.

Software :: How To Remove Contextual Menu?

Jun 19, 2008

I have all these options when I right click on an image. There's about 40 preset old photoshop automated actions. I want to get rid of them. I don't need them. But I can't figure out how to remove them. They were installed with CS2, I think. Now CS2 is long gone, but those are still there. How can I get rid of them?

Applications :: Add Closing Safari Tabs Via Contextual Menu?

Aug 31, 2010

how to add a "close tab" command to the control click contextual menu in Safari? (or an extension that would provide this feature) I know that if you control click on the actual tab you get get a different contextual menu that includes the close tab command, but the contextual menu available by clicking on the body of the page does not contain that command. I'm using the track pad on a Macbook Pro and want to be able to close the tab by using the using the trackpad alone without having to shift to the keyboard or move the cursor up to the top of the window to close the tab.

Applications :: Safari - No Contextual Menu With Right Click On Link

Feb 13, 2010

When going to a linked page in Safari I usually want to open it in a new tab or a new window and occasionally to do other things with it. So I'm used to right-clicking on links to bring up a contextual menu offering me:

Open Link in New Window
Open Link in New Tab
Download Linked File
Download Linked File As...
Add Link to Bookmarks...

Copy Link: I noticed the loss of this menu when my wife wanted me to look at web pages she had found related to a possible holiday. Using Safari in her account on our iMac, I found no menu appeared when I right-clicked on a link. I checked she had the "secondary button" set up OK in the mouse preferences and I also found right-clicking worked OK elsewhere. I then tried other ways of making the menu appear on a link (CTRL-clicking or holding down the left, primary button); neither worked!................

OS X Mavericks :: Customize Share Option In Contextual Menu?

Aug 21, 2014

Before I ask this question, I just want to emphasize that I KNOW how easy it is to create a service using automator. I'm not looking to clutter up my contextual menu more than it already is, I would just like to edit/alter an already existing submenu, or simply add a new one like Dropbox does.

I would like to add a share option to my right-click contextual share option for outlook, or whatever app/service I would like to send the file with.

add a share option to the contextual-menu, and possibly delete some I don't use, like flickr or twitter.

OS X Mavericks :: Lost Most Important Entry In Favorites In Finder?

Jun 21, 2014

I just setup a Seagate external drive to become my offsite backup. I am a new iMac user. I dragged and dropped my most important folders (using Finder) onto the Seagate drive (to copy them over) but probably I did something incorrectly because the Document folder which has all my important files disappeared from under Favorites in Finder and did not show up on the Seagate.  I can no longer access what I need as there is no easy way to locate my files which were grouped in a multi level, nicely organized file structure under Documents, to make it easy for me to locate my work.

Now, Finder shows under Favorites: All My Files, Airdrop, Applications, Desktop, Downloads, Logins. Previously it also had an entry for Documents, now missing. Using All My Files I can locate the files I worked on yesterday, so they are still on the hard drive.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Cannot Open Finder Window And Finder Preferences Don't Stick

Apr 5, 2012

Sometimes I simply cannot open a new finder window. If I use Command-N or if I choose New Finder Window in the Finder menu, nothing happens. If I am using Command-N, I can see the File heading in the Finder menu bar highlighting, and then after a few seconds the highlight goes, but no window opens. Also, clicking on my Downloads icon in the dock, the dialog opens showing all the files, but if I then click on Open in Finder, the dialog closes but nothing happens. Now that I am writing this message, it all works again! That's what I mean by 'sometimes'. This issue can last for tens of minutes. Secndly, and this is still a problem, my finder Preferences do not stick. So for instance, I don't want to see an icon for my hard disk on the desktop, so I untick this in Finder preferences. The icon disappears. If I now re-start, then it comes back. The same happens for removing the empty trash warning and all of the other Finder Preference tick boxes.

Now, when the first problem of not being able to open a finder window suddenly stopped being a problem, the icon for the hard disk suddenly appeared on my desktop. So the two issues are linked. This has been going on intermittently for a few days. I have verified my disk, and repaired permissions.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Services Missing From Right Click Menu?

May 24, 2012

I was trying to install some services that I created using applescripts and ThisService. The problem I'm having is that Services is not available in the menu when I right click on a folder or file. Looking under Keyboard in the system preferences, I can see all of the different services that are availible. I have the ones I'd like to use checked but no services appear in the menu when I right click. I've tried resetting defaults in the preferences, logging in and out, restarting and nothing helps. I found another post that said open terminal and run this /System/Library/CoreServices/pbs. When I enter that in the terminal, I get this message "No languages specified - assuming English" and nothing changes. I'm running 10.6.8 and I know that Services used to be avalible in the menu.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: How Does Services Menu Work And How To Clean It Up

May 28, 2012

You know how context menus on the mac are sometimes slow? I've figured out this has to do with the services menu.. located under keyboard -->services in the left-hand sidebar. My question is how do apps put services in that menu.. and how do I remove rather than disable a specific menu item?

I guess my broader question is how do I completely uninstall applications when I no longer have the original app bundle? I'm just concerned about clutter acclumating over time.

Software :: Snow Leopard Crashing - Menu Wouldn't Open

Jan 4, 2010

I have the same problem in this thread on the Apple support website: [URL] The only solution suggested was to reinstall the os. "I'd be using firefox with no problems. I'd go to load a page, and firefox would get stuck trying to resolve a host name (implying DNS wasn't working, at best). I'd click on the airport menu item, but the menu wouldn't open. I'd move the mouse cursor off the menu bar. When I move the mouse cursor back over the menu bar, I'd see the beachball. Ill finder windows get the beachball. Killing the finder did nothing; wouldn't fully die or restart. I'd have to hard-reset the machine to recover."
